Marinas
We called ahead to rent a boat for a two day stay on Lake of the Ozarks. We were told we would be getting a very nice, late model deck boat. When we arrived to pick up the boat, we were hesitant to even take it because it was so old and beat up.. Against our better judgement, we went ahead and rented it because we figured it was too late to find another boat with no notice. The 4-stroke engine was so loud that we couldn't even converse while it was running; not to mention, it had no speed at all. It wouldn't even go fast enough to lift the front end so we were sprayed with water the entire time we were out. We owned a pontoon and boated in WI for 25 years, we know how to maneuver a boat. While out on the water, a small, makeshift swim platform that had been built onto the front of the boat got knocked lose from the wake of other boats. We tried to explain what happened to the owners of the marina, but they proceeded to threaten to call the police and charge us for the damage to the swim deck as well as damage to the prop, which had damage that was noted in writing before we took the boat out. Then they told us "we shouldn't have taken it out on the main channel" - it's the only way to go anywhere! Nobody ever mentioned anything about the channel, the traffic, or to any other restrictions. We had 1 1/2 days of boating and were charged a total of $840.00. That is more than a nice, new boat would have cost to rent anywhere on the lake. Just be aware, this is a small marina and obviously cannot afford to have the newest equipment. That is understandable, but the boat they rented us was not only beat up, but unsafe!
