Obtained through Ladue News, did baseboards, I thought they were good, Master Carpenter with license and shown number stated that they would not pass as an apprentice work today, July 10th. I will have to have baseboard corners redone, doors hung correctly, staircase stripped and re-stained all because of this individual. I know I will never see him or any of my money back, I just want to warn others that this person is a con, if not, get a written proposal, a price, verify license, claims, references and only pay when done (buy supplies yourself). My Father in law and Mother died during the period he worked, I did not have the time to manage him as I should have and kicked him out, but you can learn from my error. On Ray Cox's work, he is not honest, he is not a master carpenter, he does not guarantee work, he will not return over 30 phone calls (after money). Before money is given, he tells you he can do everything as advertisement in Ladue News states. Do your homework, avoid this at all cost, take my losses as your gain.
Description of Work: Contractor places advertisements in Ladue News, states master finish carpenter, guaranteed, insured. First listing usually under Carpenter. Was in home over several months doing all baseboards, hardwood doors and helped himself without permission to stain new front staircase. Used wrong stain, not which matched hardwood floors, did not know what he is doing. Then wrote a note saying that I did the following: _________________________________________________________ EMAIL RECEIVED FROM RAY COX, NEVER GAVE EMAIL THOUGH: teve: I am deeply offended that you told Seth that I stood you up when my daughter was in the hospital, writhing in pain with what turned out to be kidney stone. Could have been anything. An operation with catheter and stint followed. My wife and I alternated watching the one year old and the three year old grand babies through the weekend. I WAS polite enough and considerate enough to call you and tell you. ASE Painting, Don Feagon and Smith Paints have all been contacted to look at your hand rail. All the GOOD painters are BUSY. Hopefully, Tony called you Friday afternoon. I begged him to call you to set a time to look at the stairs. The door is scheduled to be in this week. When it arrives, I will paint it and mill it from the old one that I still have. I will then call you to set a time to install it. It will only take a few minutes to take the old one off and put the new one on. I am leaving money on the table. I paid for the replacement door (I should, Lowes' mistake or mine), I will pay for the painter and I won't collect payment for the final three doors. I also paid for the rollers for the doors and the time to install them. The new closet doors were painted before we moved the old rollers. We did not do anything to affect them. They were just too old to be used with the new heavier doors. Ray Cox _____________________________________________________ He cancelled about 5 times, I surely understand if someone has a family member in the hospital. The other times he cancelled the morning about an hour after he was to be here. Being polite enough to call, is that the type person you want to pay? The painting company never called, why did he paint and charge me first? Why did he stain my brand new entry staircase and charge me (I asked for a bid, he told St. Louis Stair he was doing the work behind my back)? If the solid doors needed extra hardware, I would have paid for it, he never mentioned it? That's fifty bucks versus $7000 he got. He never ordered doors to replace the wrong style (I called Lowe''s in Bridgeton). All of a sudden, its a personal issue after he got all the money. Not sure what money was left on the table? If it was a table, it was his and my money. Adding this to other complaint for HST construction is another name he operates under and others. All work is bad or lousy. Always said that he would go through and finish and touch up everything (poor corners on woodworking, very poor painting) at end of job, well he takes off near end of job and you have everything that needs to be done or fixed up.

Start Good, End, we got ripped off by somebody that is very non professional, will not answer a phone call after paid thousands, just stay away from this individual. 30 phone calls on cell (has about 3-4 phones at least), leave messages, over three weeks, never a response. Do not trust.
Description of Work: Contractor did baseboards, I was having stairs and hardwood floors done. Arrived on time, but decreased as money increased, talked with contractor on stairs, he stated he could paint and stain the stairs, told him I wanted bid. Helped himself to stairs job, felt somewhat confident in him. Also took on painting of a room for $700 (poor) and MB closet ($325). Risers on stairs, painted and caulked awful, stain on handrails, never shown, just installed, poor match ($2600), put new hardwood doors up, ordered wrong door style, said he would fix, called Lowe's where he ordered other doors, they stated that they have not had one on order from him. Called over 30 times, my wife and I, he would never pick up the phone, stated that we did not show empathy when daughter went to hospital one morning and he cancelled (by email, which we never gave him, very strange). We understand that, and don't have a problem if a family member is ill. Operates under HST Construction also, states that he really is not a painter, but took a thousand to paint a bedroom and closet and stair riser's and staining for $2600. Business card says painter. Laborer kept telling us, I am not a painter, but we paid money for painting, again, strange, very business like before money, after money and fix all that is not correct, he is gone. Forget it, have to hire someone and correct all his problems and pay double. Would state other jobs needed attention, we were agreeable. When it came to finishing the job, or fixing all the bad work, and only owing him around a thousand, will not take calls, GONE.
