Sounded great at first. After the first initial contact, he came about an hours drive within a few days to look at everything and even went out to Home Depot with me to pick out blocks. I had several projects I wanted bids on, I had a retaining wall crumbling, needed foundation work, porch needed replaced or repaired along with front steps which needed mud jacked or something. He was there about 3 hours total by the time we looked at blocks, talked about ideas and he measured everything. I was really impressed with his ideas and the possibilities of what I could do. He said he would have the bids back by the end of the week. That's where I was a little disappointed. I think it was about 3 weeks by the time I actually got any numbers and I had a minor issue with contacting him for a couple days with no response but we had been communicating by email mostly so he could have been out of town or whatever, I don't know. My other question was that I wasn't exactly sure what his specialty was. I could see he was probably very good with organizing a crew and home repairs like the porch and some new wood steps which sounded great but I'm not sure how much he knew about concrete, foundation, or retaining walls. I will say that he had talked about his "landscapers" so I'm assuming that he has someone he hires to do work like the retaining wall that probably really knows more about it. Which is fine. But I had actually given up on getting the bids and hired someone about the same time when he contacted me with real numbers. I would say I would have probably used him, his ideas were good and he put some effort into the first meeting but I'm not sure how long it's supposed to take to get a bid. And I had hoped he would send someone to come out to look at the foundation and wall if he really didn't know that much about them but this is my first experience with home repairs and taking bids so it may be normal. I will say of the 4 people who came out to look at it, he was the only one to put it in writing which I asked of all of them and there were 2 that I never heard back from. Actually 3 because I had tried a few months before to get a bid but I only tried one place which never followed through after a verbal bid. I would probably use him in the future if needed and things worked out right. He was enthusiastic and professional for the most part with good ideas, and was full of questions. I have not seen any of his previous work though...
