"Thank you so much for your kind words! Working with you has been a great pleasure. I am thrilled that the outcome of our work together resulted in the home you dreamed of. I look forward to working with you again in the future."
"Thanks so much for your kind words. It was a pleasure to work with you both on the kitchen. I am so proud of the outcome. I hope that you and [Member Name Removed] will create fabulous meals and have many years of enjoyment in your beautiful kitchen and breakfast room!"
Would hire again. Thanks!
The process started when David met me at the home to look at the entire structure. He was thorough and energetic about the conversation. In addition, he spent quality time understanding our family's lifestyle, interests and needs for the space. From there he engaged his partner to come over and measure and photograph the space for the drawings. Upon the completion of the drawings we spoke over the phone about the flow of the space, the changes we needed and how best to execute the final design. David turned over the final design in a matter of weeks from start to finish so we could engage with our contractors and engineers.
Following the completion of the kitchen design David completed a lighting plan as well. I was able to give this to our electricians and keep the project on track while ensuring clear direction and accountability for work. Since he did the original layout, this additional request was handled quickly and thoughtfully as well.
There were few additional highlights in this experience:
- - David has a VERY thorough client assessment document. The intent is to understand how we live but also our values which can be translated in the design and material selection. It allowed us to have good conversations about different aspects of the home and the project.
- - David has a wealth of information about building considerations for environmental and health considerations. While we didn't set out to build a "green" kitchen, I did use his advise for conversations with other contractors and overall building material selections.
- - David was very responsive. It should be noted that he works between MO and CA but I did not encounter any problems. We communicated via email, phone and text to stay in touch.
- - David's vision for the space was truly a highlight. We were so conditioned to assume how best to use the space but David brought new ideas forward which transformed the layout and allowed us to get everything we wanted with no trade offs. That alone was thrilling!
"Thank you for your generous comments. It was a pleasure to work with you on your kitchen, breakfast and hearth room. We sincerly appreciate your business and look forward to working with you in the future."
"This member and our firm have worked together many times and it is always a pleasure. The kitchen we designed for them is beauiful and fits them, their home and lifestyle so perfectly. While we are proud of the results we are most proud of the continued relationship we have built with this family. Thank you so much for the continued confidence you place in our firm and the generous comments you have posted on our behalf."
"Thank you for your review and kind remarks. We sincerely appreciate your business. This year we have had the pleasure to work in several older homes. These home have unique character, architecture and challenges. We are especially proud to be able to assist our clients, like this one to understand and appropriately manage the enviromental hazzards that are inherent in older home. While we always strive to design beautiful and highly functional spaces it is added pleasure to know that we can assist our clients to make their homes healthier and safer places to live and grow."
First, David is a leader in the green design industry. He has extensive knowledge regarding the most healthy and environmentally-friendly materials to work with as well as the most healthy and environmentally-friendly installation processes. He has a vast network of professionals to recommend for various kinds of home improvement projects. David is very responsive, professional and trustworthy. In addition to these great qualities, David came up with a kitchen redesign that enables us to maximize space but not start from scratch - something other professionals have not been able to do ;-) !
"Thank you for your praise. I am passionate about helping all our clients make their homes more attractive, functional and healthly. I have spent the past four years studying healthy, sustainable and green design. Putting this training and education to work for our clients is my pleasure and priviledge!"
"Thank you for inviting me into your home. I appreciate your business. David Schneider"
I should first start by saying that I've never used an Interior Designer and obviously should have done my homework as to what a consultation would include. David sent me a questionnaire that I filled out in detail and thought it great that he really seemed to want to know my ideas/personality. As it was, he didn't mention my answers to the questionnaire at all. Maybe they don't come in to play until after his design services are utilized(?). After about 2 hours consult (which cost $262.50), he told me that he could send some drawings that would cost approximately $300-$350. After considering the costs involved with the entire project as well as other expenses we will be incurring (window replacement), I phoned David to inform him that, unfortunately, the additional costs involved with his company would not fit into my budget. Also, if he had read my questionnaire, I indicated that I was only interested in a consultation at this time. He seemed very offended that I declined his design services, and went on to lecture me about the importance of hiring a designer before contacting a contractor to perform the actual work. When I asked him if he could at least recommend some contractors, he reluctantly told me that he would give my name and number to someone who might be able to assist. He never gave me any names or phone numbers to contact myself. I'm not sure why he took offense to this when I clearly stated that it was only due to budget reasons. David seems to be an extremely talented designer, and if money were no object, I would most likely have utilized his services. Perhaps I bruised an artistic ego?
In the end, I found a building contractor through a reference from a coworker and am extremely pleased! He came to my house and seemed to know exactly what I was looking for, and sent sketches with pricing and even gave recommendations that I hadn't thought of initially.
My recommendation....do your homework, ask questions before hiring anyone and use personal recommendations whenever possible!
After reading this provider's response, I feel the need to clarify...I NEVER stated I was dissatisfied with the ideas discussed. I only declined the services for budget reasons. Again, I am confused as to why this designer was offended. Only (1) contractor was interested in my job because I live in Oakville which is too far? I guess it's a good thing I didn't pursue this service. I never heard from the (1) either. Perhaps you should add that you only do business with people who live in affluent areas of West County.
"We sincerely regret this members dissatisfaction and have made numerous attempts to reach them to address their concerns by phone and mail (both electronic and U.S. Postal service). We have had no response to any of our communications, including an offer to fully refund the cost of their consult."
"Thank you for your generous comments! An overall grade of "A" coupled with "very pleased so far" from a client asked to post a review in the middle of construction is a good response. This is a major project involving a large number of professionals including an architect, engineer, general contractor and more sub-contractors than would normally be involved in a ground up/newly built home. Working in a team environment has many challenges and despite our best efforts and intentions to lead we accept our inability to control others. Projects of this size, complexity and number of team members rarely progress from start to finish without delay or challenges. These things are frustrating and reflect badly on all team members. We accept this fact. The final finished product which is the realization of our design is what helps to erases the unsavory aspects of the process. We are confident that this client/member will be completely thrilled with the outcome. We will do everything necessary to assure this is the case."
I would highly recommend his services!
"Thank you so much for your kind remarks! So far we focused on this client's daughters' bedroom. Our process of getting to know the client and their daughter has provided us the information needed to create a design plan and select the materials, finishes and furnishings that fit her personality and taste. They love the results and this is our goal. We look forward to moving on the the rest of the house!"
"Thank you! It is so gratifying when we help our clients discover new aspects of their aesthetic sensibilities. This client wanted a shift from the look they have had for a period of years. They had been flirting with a transition before we were contacted. Our process allowed us to tap into the look and colors that were most appealing to this couple. We have helped them to unify their home with beautiful area rugs, changes/additions of upholstered furniture, window coverings and paint. This clients home was beautiful before we began this process. We are thrilled that we have had the opportunity to assist them with their transition to a new look that they love."
He was very knowledgeable not only about appropriate materials and labor that would fit our budget, but also about structural information within the house: while he was here, he found an active leak coming from our shower. He made lots of very specific suggestions for both bathrooms, and gave me an appropriate estimate that was close to our original budget. In hindsight, I would have brought a notepad with me or some recording device to ensure that I got down everything he said, though I did ask him to send us everything we discussed by email, so we should be getting that soon.
In addition to the bathroom discussion, he gave feedback about easy things to improve the aesthetics in the rest of the house. He went room by room in our main living area and provided suggestions for cheap, easy DIY improvements, or for future remodeling projects.
I would highly recommend him to anyone considering a major remodeling project. He has great ideas that will fit any budget!
"Thank you so much for contacting Schneider Kennedy Design and inviting us into your home. We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to assist you as well as your kind review of the meeting you had with Mr. Schneider, Lead Designer & Principal."
The service turned out excellent. It was a bit pricier than I had expected, but I must chalk some of that up to my own lack of experience in home decorating. I could have come in much cheaper, but I would not have been able to get custom fitted - the fit would have been much less appealing.
There was one minor issue - the company closed for 2 weeks over the holidays. I don't mind that they closed, they just didn't tell me that they would be closed and not responding to customers. But David was very apologetic and worked hard to keep the project on time for the remainder of the experience.
I would gladly hire them again!
"Thank you! We do our best to make each and every customer happy. Next time we will earn all A's!"
"This was the third major project we completed for this client. We were able to expand the footprint of this kitchen with a novel solution which involved pushing back into an adjoining storage area at the rear of the garage. This solution and the strategic removal of the old pantry and wing walls separating the kitchen from the den allowed us to create an open floor plan and bigger working area. In addition to the three major projects we've done for this client, we have also have the privilege of doing several other minor projects. Working with this member is always fun for our staff. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to assist her once again."
At no time did I ever question my choice of Schneider Kennedy Design. I feel the design fees were very fair. I wholeheartedly endorse Schneider Kennedy Design and I highly recommend this company.
"Thank you so much for your kind remarks. It was a pleasure to work with you!"
"Gosh! We are sorry! It appears the written report that was sent after the consult via e-mail did not reach this member. Is it possible that the report went into the spam file? Unfortunately, this consult was done many many months ago and we did not hear from the member or know they did not get the report till this review. We do not retain information paper or electronic on members/prospects who do not hire us after 90 days. If the member would have contacted us we would have addressed this concern. This consult did not require a second person and generally the BIG DEAL Consults are done by Mr. Schneider alone. Consults are sometimes done with an assistant and sometimes they are not. Generally if we are not doing any remodeling that involves contractors there is no need for an assistant. Also, if the consult is scheduled during a field day (versus an office day) and we are already out in the field the consult will be done with an assistant. Most importantly, the cost of a consult covers one person. Consults are all done by Mr. Schneider who's hourly rate for initial consults is $125.00 per hour plus travel and follow up time. Often when we bring a second person on a consult the client is only paying Mr. Schneider's fee's and we are providing the additional person at no charge. The services we provide with the BIG DEAL Consult are discounted more than 50%. This member had an extensive list of items that they wanted to discuss during the consult and we crammed all we were able into two plus hours. The majority of the members who buy the BIG DEAL are not looking to hire a designer or design firm. Most BIG DEAL customers are curious, intrigued and interested in getting professional design and decorating advise but most would not hire a designer or a design firm and pay full price. This is not to say these members are bad in any way. It is just that these folks are not your typical design firm client. Statistically they are 250% less likely to do any kind of business with our firm than a member who hires us from AL and pays standard fees. We are sorry that we did not meet this members expectations. It is exceedingly rare that people are displeased with the information and value they get from an initial consult. We believe we delivered an excellent service at a very low cost to this member. It is difficult to understand why they did not reach out to us closer to the time of the consult regarding the report rather than wait many many months and then write a disparaging report. You can only please some of the people some of the time!"
David was very professional. He took his time examining each of the rooms where we were interested in making changes and seemed to be very aware of our specific needs and preferences. His follow up to the visit was timely. Overall, it was a very good experience.
"Thank you for your report. We appreciate all your kind remarks. Regarding the cost please see the comments that follow: This client contacted us for assistance with a rental home they own that is in very bad shape and had not been updated for more than 25 years. The home, when viewed, was in exceedingly bad condition and was difficult to be in due to strong and inescapable pet urine smell. We provided the client a comprehesive assessment of the many issues in the home as well as ideas for remodeling the entire home interior and exterior. We also provided advise the client on the corrective measures needed to address a plethora of problems with the structure. Our services included a 1 1/2 hour on-site consult, a comprehensive written report following the face to face meeting, placing them in contact with two contractors (one decliened the work in light of the homes condition) to address the numerous issues with the property, connecting them with an engineer to address structural problems with the property and several post meeting communications (e-mail and phone calls). Our fees were $250.00. We believe this was a BARGAIN for our services and expertise."
1) He listens. A lot of people appear to listen, but David asks questions so that he gets to know you well enough to understand what would and wouldn't work for you. His suggestions are based on that understanding, not on his own druthers. Example: it turns out we're brown (he didn't tell us; we figured it out :) but David is colorful. He let us be brown. If you are honest with him, you'll end up with things that work for you. We are completely dumb about decorating matters; David is completely enlightened. The project was an enjoyable learning experience for us, albeit more expensive (labor and materials) than we intended. But people like us forget that "replacing the counter" means also replacing sinks (2 in our kitchen), faucets, backsplash, range hood... And our expectations were based on what things cost 20 years ago (when we did our original kitchen remodeling). And to his credit, David did point out less expensive paths.
2) He managed the details fluidly. David's job involves knowing a lot about homes and decorating materials; reading people, scheduling subcontractors, and a myriad of nano details that have to be juggled with 50 balls in the air at once. This was the smoothest remodeling job and quickest that we've experienced, even though - as expected - there were some glitches. The blinds were redone 3 times, but that was entirely due to faulty design; that my husband was on the phone (pleasantly) with the engineer who designed them was because David arranged it. Actually, it was wonderful having David run interference with manufacturers and workmen. He insisted that people come on time, clean up, and be excellent craftsmen. When the counter installers came 8 hours late, David negotiated a refund.
3) David's "people" are terrific. All the people David brought into perform work were uniformly excellent. We were comfortable having them in our home. Bob, the carpenter came many times to handle all sorts of things, big (kitchen tear-out) and small (replace a hinge on shelf that was wrong 20 years ago on the first remodeling job); Bob was skillful and thoughtful and a pleasure to have around. Steve, the floor installer, was persistent, careful, skillful and he laughed at my jokes. Ditto for Matt the painter.
4) David cares. He cares about the job; he is personally invested in having it be right. Not just done; not just good-enough. Right. He treated our job as if it were his house or his best friend?s. Which makes sense, because he also cares about us. We have become friends (way more than just customers) as part of this process. We think that?s pretty rare in this business.
"Wow! I am overwhelmed and beeming with pride. I often say "my business is design, decorating and remodeling but my job is making people happy." Reports like this one and comments like these make it all worthwhile. Thank you!"
