I had large 40’ x 20’ 2 tier deck that needed to be replaced. New deck is 20’x25’ and replaced the rest with a 15'x20' concrete pad/patio. New deck is TimberTech composite and vinyl railing with aluminum balusters. Gateway Design and Build did an amazing and outstanding job from start to finish and I am so very happy with my new deck and patio and the job they did. I worked primarily with the owner, Scott Sorter. Getting the bid from Scott was so easy, simple, and straight forward. In all, I got 7 bids for my deck and all of them except Scott’s was a very painful, two hour+ process from a high pressure, commissioned sales person. It reminded me very much of my car buying experiences, but worse - forced to listen to recorded testimonials, going through multiple iterations of prices, pressuring me to sign a contract immediately, etc. My experience with Scott was dramatically different and so much better - essentially the exact opposite of all the other bids I got. He measured and inspected the old deck, discussed some ideas and options, he made some recommendations, and then gave me a firm bid. The whole process took less than 30 minutes. He did not pressure me in the least and price was very competitive and significantly lower than most of the others I received (lowest one by far except for one where the contractor wasn’t going to do a building permit). He gave me his best price up front and I didn’t have to go through multiple iterations. Scott was extremely knowledgeable about decks and has years of experience with them, and it showed in his recommendations, answering any questions, and the bid itself. Also, I wanted to replace part of the old deck with a concrete pad and most of the companies I talked to couldn’t handle that, but Scott was able to. He started the job when he said he would, did the job in the timeframe he said it would take, got the building permit and inspections, he communicated frequently with me during the job with updates, and always returned my calls very quickly. Scott showed up every day to both review the work and assist his crew as needed. I only had one issue and that was where part of my lawn was torn up by a bobcat as part of the concrete work (it rained the day before). Scott’s team did an incredible job in filling in the ruts, smoothing out/leveling the whole area, and putting sod down. The lawn looked better than before the issue. A couple of minor items came up that we had agreed to verbally and did not include in the contract and he took care of them without question. The crew that built my deck were very friendly, hardworking, respectful, and very accommodating with any questions I had. They cleaned up the site everyday and ensured it was immaculate at the end of the job. The quality of the work and materials was very high and it showed in the look, fit/finish, and performance of the finished deck. Scott followed up a few days after the job was finished to ensure everything was to my satisfaction. I am so so happy with how the deck turned out and so pleased with the work that Gateway Design and Build did for me. I rarely do reviews, but my experience was so good I felt I needed to. I would recommend very strongly Gateway Design and Build, and have done so already with friends and family. I should also mention they are accredited by the BBB and have an A+ rating.
