Description of Work: Room addition. Due to the bad weather of Winter 2013-2014, he overbooked his crew. Sometimes we had to wait for the crew to show up to get the work done, but in general, the team was friendly enough and did a good job. I would though use a different architect than what he recommended. His was a thousand above everyone else for the same work and they wanted to argue over putting a windows where known electrical services are running through an existing wall (we said NO, they kept putting it on the design)

 + 0 moreWe truly enjoyed our experience using Crowdus Custom Homes. From the very beginning Steve was responsive to every question asked and took the time to make sure we were ok with everything without being pushy. He was able to provide innovative ideas and solutions to overcome an obstacle other contractors weren't able to. His pricing was very competitive and he was flexible with us doing part of the project ourselves (trim work and doors) to stay on budget. They were able to start within our timeframe and the project stayed on track the whole time. Steve's team was very professional and we were very impressed with their quality of work. Steve checked on the project the whole time and even have them reframe the ceiling so it flowed better around the duck work without being asked. We have since referred Crowdus Custom Homes to many friends and family and would definitely use them again in the future!

 + 0 moreCrowdus was the general contractor for our bank financed renovation. He met with us and discussed the work we needed done( all new windows, total gut & renovation of kitchen), wrote an estimate submitted all paperwork to our lender. He was always professional and very responsive to our requests. He has experience with this type of bank financed renovation process, so all of his paperwork was in order and turned in on time per the bank's request. Since we are very hands on, and enjoy DIYing, Crowdus worked around our schedule to get his tasks accomplished while we were completing some on our own. The only downside was that a couple of the sub-contractors were not very professional( i.e. clogging up our toilet, leaving trash/not cleaning up after themselves). However, when we brought these to Steve Crowdus' attention, they were addressed immediately. I would use Crowdus Custom Homes again for a large project such as ours. UPDATE: I adjusted my rating to an A on Angie's List, but for some reason, the page has not reflected that.

 + 0 moreThe measure took around 45 minutes and there was another measure from a carpenter (along with Steve) a couple days later. We received the bid a little over a week later. Steve was very pleasant to work with and a very nice guy. I would recommend Steve and it came down to some small details by us not selecting them.
Description of Work: Received a bid on a lower level finish. We did decide to go with a different contractor, but they were one of the final two that we considered.

 + 2 moreThe overall experience was great. No one likes contatruction in their home, but ours was smooth and as promised. Once we ok'd the plan and got permits, work started when promised. Work started by 7 am every morning. They cleaned up every day and scrubbed the house down when the project was over. Steve even polished our stove once it was installed the day before Thanksgiving. As is expected with these projects, the timeline was longer than originally planned. However., most of it was because we added things or changed plans such as moving the staircase or moving the fireplace. Also, some unpredictable things such as mold in our drywall and termite damage behind the drywall in our laundry room created some added work and inspections. If you are moving walls or removing wall coverings, beware that some unforeseen discoveries may be made. But, every day when I came home, I could see the work that had been done and felt good that we were always progressing with good workmanship and quality. The most important thing I can say is that after our basement, we never bid the next 2 projects in our home. I would have a hard time trusting anyone else after knowing Steve. He also knows that we aren't bidding out our job, and he has never taken advantage of our trust. We can't wait to see the finished product of our final phase. The drawings look beautiful with attention to detail, so I know it will really add to the beauty of our home.
Description of Work: We have had Steve do extensive work on our house on 2 separate occasions and are getting ready to start a screened in porch with him. The above sum represents the amount we spent on the first 2 projects. The first was an extensive basement remodel. We had started with another contractor and for many reasons we terminated that relationship and lost a lot of money in the process. We were naturally a little gun sh hiring another contractor as we wanted to make sure we made the right choice the second time around. We chose Crowdus after at least 5 other bids. He wasn't the most expensive and he wasn't the cheapest either. He was straightforward about how we would pay, and we felt comfortable with his billing structure. He also had wonderful ideas about layout and use of space. We ended up tearing everything down from the first contractor and started fresh. It was the right choice. He made great suggestions including moving the staircase, which made the remodel feel like a natural extension of our home. We have 3 bedrooms with egress windows and a lot of light. We added 2 full baths, big closets, a huge family/playroom and a workout room. We still have some unfinished storage space as well. It's really a showplace. We get compliments every time someone new sees the house. The workmanship is great. He uses the best carpenter as well as other subs, but he is very present in overseeing the job. Next we redid our kitchen. We knew we wanted to open up the back of our home and had planned on removing a few walls, but he helped us move a bathroom to truly open the space up. We also moved some windows to get more space for cabinets, all Steve's ideas, though he does use an architect for the details. We installed beautiful cabinetry, a new pantry which the carpenter built for us, new countertops, windows, appliances, the works. Most importantly, though, he brought up the idea of moving the fireplace and rebuilding the ceiling to make it more energy efficient. We have a beautiful new fireplace and mantle which cam be seen from the kitchen, and we were able to open the existing fireplace outside onto our patio. My husband wanted an outdoor fireplace, so this worked perfectly for us. Now we are enclosing the space into a large screened porch where we can enjoy our fireplace more frequently!

 + -1 moreThe project started with the removal of the old concrete steps and brick walls. Most of that was completed in one day. A rotten piece of wood below the front door needed to be replaced, which required a change order. Building the new walls out of Versa-Lok took longer than expected. Another change order was needed when Steve Crowdus suggested an addition to the wall to make it more symmetric - I am pleased that this was suggested. When the concrete steps were poured, the lower landing and the bottom step were not leveled properly. After a rain, water pooled on the bottom step. Upon bringing this to Steve's attention, he had the landing and step removed and poured again. The project has been completed for about 3 months now and I am pleased with how it turned out. One problem that came up is that the front door won't close as easily as before, so I am planning to have it replaced. This was not expected at the start of the project, but I have been wanting to replace them for some time anyway. I am having Steve do this project.
Description of Work: Remodeled the front exterior entry. Removed concrete steps and walls. Built new walls of Versa-Lok across front of house from driveway to corner, and new walls on either side of entry door. Poured new concrete steps. Steps are much wider than what was removed.
