We were very pleased with the work Jason and his team did for us.  His pricing was very competitive and he did a thoughtful design of our system.  He had very professional workers and left our mechanical room looking pristine, well organized, and meticulously labeled.  He ensured our rebates were processed and did a great job explaining the complex system.  We moved into our home in late January 2015.  We have 6000 square feet + large garage -- our gas bills thus far have been $0 for heating.  Our electricity bills for Jan and Feb were a couple hundred bucks, but went back down to sub-$100 for the whole house beginning in March.  We are delighted with our quiet, toasty home and the crazy low bills!  I would recommend Massmann without any hesitation!

Jason and his team were amazing!  Jason was on site for most of the install and available for the multitude of questions that I had before, during and after the project was completed.  His office staff was responsive when I had questions about the types of filters and how to get them.  Jason even made himself available when there were issues with the dual fuel meter and even went above and beyond to get those issues resolved even though they weren't his to solve.  I would highly recommend Massman Geothermal!

Massmann was the low bidder, they got the work done on time and within budget but the system is not performing to spec.  Every time they come out to try to get the system to run within specification, they send a bill even though it should still be covered under warranty.  It is near impossible to get them to come out to do service work and they charge an arm and a leg for anything after the original install.  I would not recommend.

"Dear [Member Name], This is the first time I've heard anything about the "system is not performing to spec" Every time we've been to your house is because the steam humidifier was not working/error code. This was caused by poor water quality that would leave calcified buildup on your heating element inside the steam humidifier. Thus the element would over heat and causing a lockout/error code. Again this was due to pour water quality the lack of homeowner maintenance/cleaning. I'm guessing your comment on we're "expensive" is because of the $475.00 FIRST & ONLY service bill? This bill has not been paid and is still owed to us from Dec 2013 for an R.O. filtration system we installed for you to correct your water quality issue. Let me note that we install a NEW Honeywell steam humidifier on this same visit at NO charge. All we asked for was reimbursement on the R.O. system which we have not been paid for. For the record we have not been called for another humidity problem since we installed the R.O. filtration system. However there is maintenance to this R.O. system/filter and if the filter is not maintained you will have plugged filters and more issues. I'm guessing you'll place your blame on Massmann Geothermal. We have thousands of happy customers for whom we've installed Geothermal system, furnaces, air conditioners and steam humidifiers for. 99.9% of these customer love our systems and service. 99.9% of those customers also pay their bills."

Communication, responsiveness, and willingness to work with my particular situation was very good initially. I had a few breaks in timeline where I needed to wait until the next phase was to be completed, so the scheduling was more difficult than normal. There was an issue with a subcontractor nicking one of the loop lines which caused some issues with the system later, but there have been other issues unrelated to the loop field such as improper condensation drain installation, and a circuit board failing in the heat pump. Ductwork installers were also very friendly and did a good job at execution, but the planning was sorely lacking. There are two main trunk lines coming off the air handler, but one of them is straight out the top (more direct pressure) and the other off the side. That would be fine in itself, if the supply lines were balanced off of this concept (more connected to the one with higher pressure), but that's not the case, resulting in very imbalanced pressure at various supply runs throughout the house. In fact, I needed to request that the installers make it less out of balance than it already was. The best thing to say about this company is their repair person, Jon. He's exceptional, albeit busy - Jason needs to clone him for the installations. He's always responsive, explains everything, and bottom line - gets it fixed. This is more of an indictment on geothermal, but the savings have not been nearly as good as anticipated (or advertised - Jason said it'd be a 10 yr breakeven point, which won't be even close to happening). The compressor is a power hog and comes on quite often. Granted, I have a leaky house built in the 60s, but I have the same utility bills as I did with gas (with the same lack of insulation).

"First off I proposed a dual fuel system for the Member in 2008. What this means “dual fuel” is 50% less on the electrical cost from the power company in return they may shut your heat pump off from time to time in peak times. NOTE: In the winter of 2010 Xcel control for a total of zero hrs. The Member decided that they did not want the dual fuel system and asked for a price on a package unit or whole system. So I did what the customer asked and gave them the price. As a contractor I can only advise the customer on what they should install for a system, it’s the customers decision on what to do with it. Unfortunately he did not take my advice but rather went with the standard electrical rate. If the Member would have taken my advice they would be seeing a 50% savings on the electrical costs to operate the heat pump. As for the trouble with the systems pumps, this was caused by the Member excavators/drain tile crew. After our system was installed they dug up our 11/4 supply and return lines. Knowing they hit the line they completed their job and filled the hole rather than telling someone about it. This cost Massmann Geothermal a large sum of money, first receiving a service call that the heat pump was not working, 3 hrs labor including drive time. Then another 24hrs labor not including backhoe cost or material to find and fix the leak that was created by another contractor. Note: Massmann Geothermal did not get compensated for any of our losses. A circuit, is an electronic devise that can fail in any brand, Type, make, or model. What should be stated here is Massmann Geothermal has taken care of our customer even though we are still owed nearly $3,000.00 since 2008. Again not including the losses we encountered due to other contractors the Member hired. I’m writing this letter 8/17/2011 Unfortunately this is the first time I’ve hear the complaints and wish the Member would be like most customers and let me know directly if they have any grips."
