I had not boarded our dog Copper in a long time and I was concerned about finding a good kennel since we would be away and nobody would be available in case of an emergency.
I interviewed a number of Kennels and found and quot;Just Like Homeand quot; to be the best. I visited the kennel six weeks before our trip and was immediately impressed with the owner, Sue, the operation and the setting. Sue was the only owner I visited that came out to meet my dog when I came for the interview.
We decided on a plan to ease in to the longer stay. We started with a half day of day care then an over night stay before the longer 11 day stay. This made me feel much better when we checked in for the longer stay.
The stay went well. I emailed the kennel once during the trip and they assured me he was doing well and enjoying the other dogs.
All the staff are friendly and seem to genuinely like dogs. They try to get the dogs out as much as possible and encourage interaction.
Overall, a great place to board your dog!
"Thanks [member name removed] for the wonderful words about our facility. We thoroughly enjoyed having Copper stay with us - and it always make me feel good to see the dogs having so much fun. It is our goal to make sure the dogs have a good time and feel loved while their owners are away. It was a real pleasure taking care of Copper for you! He's a real sweetie pie!"
When we arrived, Sue was ready for us. She greeted Lucky and us warmly and kept him entertained while we filled out paperwork. We got a tour of the facility, which was clean, open, well lit and dog-friendly. Her practice is to have the dogs socialize together for most of the day, only kenneling them in their runs during the evening. This was completely different from any other boarding experience where I have had to pay extra to have my dog socialized for 45 minutes a day with others! I was so excited!
Most of the dogs were outside playing and we were allowed to be part of the assimilation process, also new for me. It was great. Lucky jumped right in among them and was off to play. Sue explained the process for those dogs who may have more difficulty transitioning, yet it wasn't necessary for us. He was good to go.
We said our good byes and began our vacation. I called Sue a couple of days in and she was happy to give a full progress report. She even sent pix to my email. It was so comforting knowing Lucky was having as much fun as we were that week.
The process for picking him up went as smoothly as dropping off, and we had no qualms about how well our dog had been treated.
For us, this facility was a bit of a drive, and yet it was well worth every mile. Her grounds were beautiful and I felt very comfortable right away. Total win-win.
We got a great value from this experience and plan to return for our next family vacation!
