I called Bill and explained the situation to him. He came by the next morning and worked diligently to free the latch. Taking the door off the hinges to remove the latch was not possible due to the 1942 hinge design. Bill masterfully and patiently worked on the latch through the very tiny space between the door frame and door until he freed the latch, removed the latch mechanism, and now I am able to once again use my door.
