Description of Work: Hendel Homes is owned and operated by Rick Hendel. He was our primary contact. After months of trying to get detailed estimates for our kitchen remodel and other projects, we finally started construction in February. Although Rick has an eye for design, he immediately brings in an architect and an interior designer (these are the only two you pay directly). We had various items installed; hardwood floors, granite countertops, kitchen cabinets, French doors, stair railings, etc. I soon realized his subcontractors are the talented ones. I found all of them to be friendly, professional, and timely. In fact, I would have rather worked directly with them and not have Rick involved at all. Particularly after finding out that out of the $100,000.00+ we paid Rick, he did not pay his subs. Collections letters started arriving and yet he claimed we owed him more money - even though he did not complete the final details of the project (we ended up having to bring other contractors in to finish). In fact, he was asking for full payment while tarps were draped all over our home. It is disappointing to see someone manage their business so poorly. Ultimately, it is the hard-working, talented subs that pay the consequence. A General Contractor's role is to be a Project Manager - to facilitate the overall process. Rick Hendel simply impedes. His subcontractors delivered on the promise of prompt payment. Clearly, he fails them and his clients. I would not recommend Hendel Homes. If you do decide to use him, have your attorney read his contract and change the payment terms to allow you to pay the subcontractors directly. Thereby, determining his fees separately. Essentially, you will be paying him for his contacts and that is it.
