We had workers on site before we probably would have received and accepted estimates from other companies, much less have the work completed. Communication with Gary, the owner, was expedient with prompt responses to questions as we made decisions about the actual work. He was very conscientious, as well as creative, in helping us make choices with the demonstrated goal of making sure we were satisfied and getting what we wanted and liked. The 2-man crew was here two long days and worked diligently and efficiently. They were amazingly precise and meticulous in every task. Their clean-up at the end of each day was the same.
We would definitely call on Aspen for any future landscape needs or projects.
So when we needed old rock-based landscaped removed in preparation for seeding, we immediately thought of Aspen. Just as before, Gary's response was immediate and his price reasonable. The project started very quickly and the hard-working crew was a wonder to watch. They were careful and paid attention to detail - for example they worked very carefully around the roots of existing trees, left straw cylinders near the sidewalk to catch any washed-off dirt, and laid planks on the lawn when crossing it with a bobcat.
We were working with our favorite landscape architect, who is from a different company. He had proposed to cover our remaining rock landscaping with mulch, since it was a very large area and the rock would be expensive to remove. But once the bushes were cut down, this landscape architect had second thoughts and recommended removing the old rock and the roots of the old bushes. And while we thought the landscape architect's estimate included removing a rotting in-the-ground deck, and roots near the house, apparently it did not. Moreover, his company was reluctant to do this hard work. So we asked Gary to propose removing an extensive area of old landscape rock, roots and old decking and prepare the area for replanting and mulch, even though Aspen was not our primary contractor for this job.
As usual, Aspen's response was immediate, the price was reasonable, the work started immediately, and the results were excellent.
When comparing the proposal process of the two companies, I noticed that the company where our favorite landscape architect works uses software that did not include all necessary costs, for example, preparing the site. When Gary estimated, not only did he look at our site, he had his crew leader check it out also. The Aspen's proposals were for a complete job with no hidden additional costs - something we really appreciated!
I would absolutely recommend Aspen Landscaping to anyone - we will certainly call Gary for our next project.
But we were not surprised. Two years ago Gary did an extensive job of clearing out a wooded area on our property and seeding it with a slit seeder. Today the area is beautiful - the grass grew very well despite the shade.
1) The work. We had an initial vision, and he came
in and helped us refine and think through what options we had. When it comes
down to it, the work is really the most important thing, and we could not be
happier with how things turned out. Our patio/landscaping looks completely new.
We had a decent size project done, a lot of landscaping/mulch, removing bushes,
building a new path, etc., and Gary took our small vision and made it come to
life in a way we never would have though. Kudos to him and his crew!
2) Communication. Gary was the most responsive and
communicative of any contractor we?ve worked with. We knew exactly when things
were getting done, if there were going to be any delays (there were none), and
if there were any open items he needed our input on. He was great over e-mail
and phone. Very easy to work with.
3) The follow-through. Gary and his team went above
and beyond. He did MORE WORK than he had committed to, which is rare to find.
He treated our project like it was his own project, and walked us through the
work three different times as it was getting done, to make sure it was what we
wanted and to ask if we were happy. His team added on two items that he didn?t
include in the quote, because in Gary?s words, ?It was the right thing to do
and I don?t want to leave a job undone.? Again ? he was a rare find for us.
Overall, I?d highly recommend Aspen Landscape and have already told my friends and family about them. Great job!
Joe
The project went very well. Gary quickly understood what we wanted to achieve, and helped us arrive at an economical design by making sure that we understood the cost-impact of our ideas. The hot-tub patio required an underground electrical line into the middle of the patio, so Gary and his crew worked around the electrical contractor's schedule. The project was done in the fall, so there were delays due to rain, but Gary and his crew made it all work out. His retaining wall hasn't sagged, and looks great! His repair of our previous contractor's work is stable, and still looks great (the previous contractor tried to fix his error twice, and gave up). The hot-tub patio and associated short walk look great! I'm glad I had Gary do the work.
