TV Service - Cable, Internet Service + 1 more
I signed up for a 2 year contract with Mediacom. Mediacom provided high speed internet (100 Mbps), phone and cable tv service. The price for the three packages was reasonable for the first 2 years, but after 2 years the price increased by about 35 %. This was more expensive than any other competitors. The service provided was subpar at best. The internet speed, when it worked was fast. The internet was very sluggish during peak hours and was inconsistent. I had significant number of internet outages each month and would not recommend Mediacom's internet service if you work from home. Mediacom's phone service was horrible. It was unreliable and would go out for days to weeks at a time. TV service was adequate only because of the TiVo devices. The sound quality is poor and the price is extremely expensive after two years. Mediacom's customer service is horrible. Expect to have longer than normal wait times during peak hours of the day. Most of the customer service representatives have no idea what they are talking about and are often inconsistent with what is promised. Some are just extremely rude and will cold transfer calls to the wrong customer service areas for help or disconnect the call.

Still could not get a line into the house after 80 days. Had 7 failed install appointments where I took off work to meet them. I have personally had over 25 calls to them. They seem to pride themselves on it "not being my department" for excuses as to cause of failure. They have so many contractors that they cannot talk to or verify when their work is going to be completed. Regional supervisors do not even return calls and when do cannot get things done. I was able to get other services installed within 6 days using frontiernet and Dishtv. Now I have holes Mediacom cut into new asphalt driveway that they are not fixing and not returning calls about. This is from their cable bury crew. Last appointment to fix driveway called 3x's during previous week to verify driveway asphalt repair. Day comes, appt window passes, 3 hrs later they call and tell me a tech (cable repair) is not available for the appt. I asked weren't you coming to fix driveway they said no was never marked.... Constant incompetence. Whole company is nothing but individual silos that never speak to each other so nothing gets done or done right.

Cable boxes wouldn't work - we called customer service. We followed their instructions with them on the phone, and they couldn't get their own equipment to work. They told us they would request an on site service call and that we would have to be home when they arrived. We had an appt set for a Friday. On Thursday I get a phone call from Mediacom stating they will be shutting our service off unless we allow them inside the property. They told us that our cable service was emitting some sort of problem from our lines, and it could or was affecting our neighbors. Huh? Yeah, the service guy shows up on Friday as scheduled. He knew NOTHING of the phone call voice mail that his company had left us. NOTHING. He got our cable boxes /tv's to work together.
Fast forward approx 2 weeks. Cable doesn't work again.

They give you the deal for usually 2 years and after the two years they jacked the rate, so we fired them. Furthermore, we've had some issues with the quality of the service.

It's terrible! They never show up, don't fix the problem, have bad attitude and make you jump through hoops. They make me absolutely want to pull my hair out. It was, like, How can you guys be this bad? Overall, their price for their service is high. There has been more than one bad experience. They were really bad experiences. They have incompetent technicians. Don't count on them to solve your problems. It took us two years to figure out what was wrong on a project. They sent them out multiple times and sent out unprofessional technicians. It was like, Seriously you guys, come on you got to do better than his. We give them almost $400 a month and they still can't get it right. We canceled on it because I just couldn't do it anymore. You guys can't figure this out. I'm just going to get a satellite dish.

We already have internet through Mediacom (because they are the only providers at the time we moved here) we decided to add cable and phone because we were offered a great package deal. Ya right! We made an appt on July 26 for them to come out on 8/1/2013, they failed to show. I called back and they were set up to comeout to deliver both phone and cable on 8/6/2013. That day they informed me that they would only hook up phone but they weren't informed about cable. So again another disappointment. I called to make yet another appt. The real fun begins on 8/9/2013 when an employee of Mediacom came out to my house. He looked so out of it, so tired like he had been partying all night. This person hooked up my cable, failing to bring a cable box which he said that he did bring. So he lied on paper the way the CSR's do over the phone. The way he hooked up my phone modem was laughable. He stole a power switch from one of my bins in my storage room, so here he's going through my personal belongings! He unplugs my water softener, plugs that into the power switch along with the phone modem cord way across the room and leaves it hang there and leaves the phone modem itself on my hot water heater. I did show him that there was an outlet much closer before he began this disaster. I am happy that I didn't have more intimate personal belongings in my storage room it makes me wonder what kind of people work for Mediacom. I hope they do background checks because it's scary when an employee of a cmpany that is supposed to do a service in your home goes through your things. I called our service representative who set us up with the great deal and he made another appoitment for us on 8/13/2013. This time they brought a box which was supposed to already be hooked up and I mentioned to him that I didn't feel comfortable with Mediacom in my home. We received our bill hich was about $109.00 more than what our contract stated that we pay. We are currently in a dispute over that. It amazes me that for a "communications company" they lack communication. It's sad that they set up all there monopolies and they get so rich and the customers suffer. In my opinion they simply don't care. Afterall who am I but just another unhappy customer.

Their customer service is not very good. The quality of the service is mediocre and cuts out half the time. They put in a new cable but did not hook it up properly. Their modems drop out as well.

Mediacom promises a product they do not provide. They offer hd tv and cable programming, that is often fragmented and tiled due to slow bandwidth. They are a lawsuit waiting to happen, as they do not provide the product you purchase.

TV Service - Cable
I've lived all over the country (except the southwest) and have dealt with many cable companies. I have never had worse cable service than what I had with Mediacom. They are over-priced to start with and the quality of cable signal and service was often very poor.
I rarely went more than a month without a problem of some kind, though some of them seemed to correct themselves. The service often went out for the entire area, which the company would blame on weather or on a construction company cutting their lines. Somehow, though, it never seemed to be their fault.
Many times, the signal quality at my house would slowly deteriorate over several days to the point where more than half the channels would become unwatchable. (I suspect they have too many customers installed on an already overloaded system.) Finally I would call for service, but I often spent over an hour on hold to reach customer service on the phone. At other times it was simply impossible to reach them at all; nothing but busy signals for hours at a time. Most of these problems involving poor signal could not be handled without a home service call, available only on weekdays during the hours that most people, myself included, have to be at work. To add to the annoyance, they would continue to charge for the service, even when it would go out completely and no service technician was available for several days.
The service people who came to the house varied from absolutely clueless to pretty competent. The less capable of them, being unable to solve the probem, would try to blame the wiring in my house until I pointed out that it was their wiring. Then they would claim that I had too many connections until I pointed out that they were happily charging me for all of them. Only the more capable ones would actually admit that the signal was weak and procede to fix the problem Sometimes it would take as many as three service visits for the same problem before I'd get a technician who could actually fix it.
To add insult to injury, when I finally moved out and cancelled the service, I was charged for weeks more of service because my termination date was after their billing cycle date. No pro-rating of the bill to charge only for service actually received.because "that's our policy."
I would advise people to stay as far away from Mediacom as possible. Get satellite service or deal with another cable company if you can. (In Chanhassen, Mediacom had an exclusive contract, so no other cable service was available.)

I have plenty of thoughts for them. I dumped them for Directv. They are the only cable service in this area. MEDICOM also provides internet, but, I wouldn't have anything from that outfit. They are snippy on the telephone. They tried to set us up with telephone service that was an absolute flunk out. They don't have a good selection of programs. They cost too much. And nothing has changed because in the newspaper someone is always complaining about MEDIACOM. I don't remember how much I paid, and I would tell you try somebody else if you can. No way would I use them for any services in the future.

I have received some wonderful service from them. They give you a 2 hour window of time and they make it on time. They call when they are on their way and the technicians don't talk down to you. They've actually been very good. I would say that their prices are good. When I first moved in I had a different provider whom I would not give any A's so I have something to compare it to. The Mediacom folks are very good.
