My wife has a "get it done and done quickly" attitude, and I have a "research, analyze, watch the little details and do it right. Even if it takes longer and is a little more expensive" attitude. This is a great combination when we work together and compromise. But we didn't work together when we hired Buff & Coat. She found one of their ads in the mail and wanted to hire them, without doing any research or looking at other companies or other options to fix our faded wood floor finish. I didn't feel the need to do the floors at the time. But she was persistent. So I said, "Go ahead and do what you want." and I didn't do any research myself and excluded myself from the decisions and research. So she hired Buff & Coat to do the work described above.
I have to admit, the floors looked great the day I came home after they did the work. But as the months went on, my wife and I noticed scratches and mars in the "coating" and within two years we started seeing the coating begin to peel from the surface of the wood. I pretty much notice more peeling areas after every other time we dust mop the floors now.
I'm not sure what their "Floor Scrub" product is made out of (their website calls it a proprietary finish) and I'm concerned now that my options for fixing their peeling finish are 1) resand the floors, or 2) hire Buff & Coat to do another coat. My skeptical side thinks this might be the company's business model. That is to provide a product that only lasts for a couple years before it starts peeling and needs to be reapplied in two years.
I blame myself in part because I didn't involve myself in the process. In retrospect if I had been involved we probably would have ponied up the money to resand our floors instead of hiring Buff & Coat.

The floors look terrific! We had to change our date several times in order to accommodate other remodeling projects and Brian was very flexible. At the last minute Brian asked if he could please change from using a water based finish to an oil based product because the dryness of the winter season was making the water based product streak. I was worred about the smell of the oil based product, but he reassured me. He made a good call, the floors did not give off a strong smell for very long and they look beautiful.
