Called to have ice maker installed on new refridgerator. He was in the basement for 2 hours, and I went down to see what was taking him so long. When I got downstairs he asked me why I had drilled a hole in my pipe. I told him I didn't. He said he was standing under the pipe, which drains from the kitchen above, when a stream of water came out of the pipe and got him wet (he had turned off all the water before he started, there was no leak at the time) He then asked me why I had drilled a hole in the pipe, which is cast iron metal. I told him I am not so stupid as to go around and drill holes in my basement pipes. I told him my son has a drill but I do not know how to use it. He said he put a plug in it and could come back in the future if I wanted it fixed, which would be a big job. The plug was leaking when he left and I didn't remind him about the kitchen faucet, I just wanted him out of there. My brother-in-law came over the next day and I told him what happedned and showed him where the plumber put the plug in. He said that was a new hole, so the plumber drilled a hole in it and then blamed me. The next day I went and bought silicone to place over the screw in the pipe to stop the leak which worked. The bill arrived the day after. He charged me $300 to install the ice maker. He also had a gas charge, which he charged $5 to come from the shop to my house, which was 3 blocks away. I had him do work previously in the past with no problems. But after this experience I would never, ever hire him to do plumbing work. Almost forgot. About a month earlier I turned a valve in the basement on that I shouldn't have. I called him and he came right over, but he charged me $80 to place a plug on the valve and to shut it off.
