Joe's work was timely, fast and done well. He has insight that we depended on to give the best and lasting result. For example, turn the building (for future barn he was preparing pad for) this way to blend with the site better, back your boat in with more ease, cause less soil to have to be removed and hauled in (we're on a hill), to be seen less from Lake Superior and for a more aesthetic appearance. I think some of his reluctance to quote job costs is that as he gets into a job, unknowns dictate a change. In our case, we hit rock and water not very far down and after Joe's recommendation changed the orientation slightly and I got another retaining wall to fill with pretty plantings. Working with Joe and Barbara Mecklin is great. They also know everyone and are helpful with suggestions for other services and people that newcomers need to know about. Also, as we asked other people for recommendations for sources of rock, sand, excavating, landscaping etc., Joe's name kept coming up. We were told you can't go wrong with Mecklins.
