Two people showed up at approximatly 10:00 am. They spent 1/2 hour or so setting up and then took 1/2 half hour coffee break. they then worked 1/2 hour or so and then left for 1.5 hour or more lunch break. They would then work for 1.5 to 2 hours and then spend an hour or so cleaning up and tearing down ladders scaffold etc. This went on for about 3 weeks. Mr Johnson would often dissapear for most or sometimes all day.The helper he left behind suffered from some sort of physical dissability and often had to sit down or even lay down to rest after minor physical exertion. This was allowed to continue because Mr. Johnson is a Drywall contractor with a long history of doing bussiness in the community. He is 82 years old and it was thought understandable that he could not put in regular hours or perform at the rate of someone much younger. The thought was that we would put up with the mess and inconvienience as long as the finish results were satisfatory. We also had the misconception that he would charge according to the job. Reality was that he was milking the job and charging by the hour. The job should have cost Somewhere between $800 to $1500 and compleated in 4 partial days with one person. These numbers were supported by three other contractors and the National Construction Cost Estimator.
Description of Work: Remove panneling from three walls in 8ft by 10ft foyer and replace with sheetrock, finish and paint. Doors and trim was removed and replaced by others. There was a small area in another room which was patched.
