Friendly caring staff.

I've been going to the same vet there for a few years now and I guess they have I don't want to say a personal relationship with my pets but it's a small town vet clinic so they're pretty familiar with the history of our animals.

They do a good job and very friendly.  But like other comments, the service is seriously test happy, charge happy and overly priced.  I walked in for a simple eye infection and I walked out with a 375.00 bill....We love our dogs, so we deal with it...but have to consider another service I think.  58.00 dollars for a 5 minutes follow up visit is ridiculous.
Response from Rivertown Animal Hospital
"Thank you for your review of Rivertown. I reviewed your charges and to be fair the testing done for the eye condition was only $45. Eye infections can be very serious and looking for ulcers and checking tear production is necessary prior to prescribing the correct medication.Layla's eye medications were $75. This is comparable to what you would pay at other veterinarians as we are charging according to our cost for the medication. Your bill also included Heartworm/tick testing which is recommended annually and a prescription for Heartworm Prevention. A rebate was provided for the Heartgard. I understand that costs add up quickly. It is our goal to provide the highest quality care for your pet. If these costs weren't explained prior to your consent or misunderstood I apologize. We are consistently rated by our clients with high marks for the care we provide and we are recognized by our peers throughout the veterinary community for providing exceptional veterinary care. It is our goal to maintain this standard of care, however we recognize that communicating these costs is important and thank you for your feedback. Dr. Ginger Garlie"

I would never go back there.  You think you’re paying for the building because they keep adding on things that are completely unnecessary and not used for clinical decision-making.  It’s not a bad facility, but they have a mindset about adding charges and test procedures that aren’t necessary.
Response from Rivertown Animal Hospital
"Even though this case was 7 years ago, I remember the circumstances. The patient had been evaluated and had blood tests prior to a dental cleaning. The liver enzymes were elevated. Our discussion regarding the work up to determine the cause of the abnormal liver included the option for ultrasound. This is often the best way to determine there are no tumors, gallbladder disease or other serious illnesses which may trigger a liver elevation. Catching these diseases early is often the best way to treat and prevent serious illness. Our recommendations were medically appropriate. Our hospital has the unique ability to provide higher diagnostic care through specialists as well as on site testing. This often avoids the need for referral to outside specialists. As always we present options we consider appropriate for our patients. It is up to the client to proceed or decline these recommendations. We are sorry you were not happy but also realize we are not for everyone. It is important for you to find a veterinarian with whom you are comfortable . Reading our hundreds of reviews we have formed this relationship of trust with our clients and will continue to make recommendations that are in the best interest of our patients. Dr. Ginger Garlie"

Dr. Garlie is amazing.  My dog cried in the car when we left and is always so excited to see her.  I am not sure what she does, but she is wonderful.

I hope that her other vet's learn a little bit about being gentle with dogs and owners.

I believe my cat received exactly the treatment and meds he needed! I also appreciate the explanation of symptoms and options, and that my understanding and involvement was valued.

Exstatic! Our cat of 15 years, who had a life long unexplained autoimmune disease, had an unexplained weight loss that a Blue Pearl oncologist suggested x-rays and ultrasound to search for cancer. We'd just moved to Stillwater and decided to ask Dr. Garley to perform these procedures. The x-ray was inconclusive as were blood tests. The ultrasound was suggestive of pancreas disease and the biopsy strongly suggested cancer. Dr. Harley refered us to an oncologist at the University of MN TC. The oncologist questioned the biopsy results but had no alternative diagnosis. Returning to Dr. Garley, she did a little research and identified a disease that not only covered the current symptoms, but explained his life long illness. She also produced medication and a diet which restored his weight and health. We highly recommend Dr. Garley to all our neighbors and friends.

They have been good. Our only complaint is that they tend to be expensive. We spend between $450 to $500 a year with them. You have to be careful about extra services that you may not need. It is a good experience. They have a nice waiting room. They tend to be prompt and friendly.
