River Valley Restoration

The name of the contract is Rolf Dittman and I would caution people not to use this company. There were a number of problems with them. One is that he falsified the bid sent by the lumber company by $10,000. There were 4-5 times during the construction when he did not do things up to code, and had to redo them, but he passed on the costs to us saying that he could not afford to do it himself even though they were his mistakes. He had hired a waterproofing company for us to waterproof the new basement that we had got put on the property. I found out after the project was done that there was water coming into the basement. I talked to the contractor but he just kept assuring me that things would be fine. I contacted the waterproofing company and they told me that the contractor had not excavated far away enough from the basement and so they could not do the waterproofing correctly. They told me that the guarantee of waterproofing was null and void and they had told this to the contractor a year ago when the project was starting, but the contractor never told us that. We got taken to court because we sold the house and the basement leaked horribly. He was supposed to give us a discount because he did not have a truck anymore and I got all the supplies with my vehicle when he needed them, but instead of giving us a discount, he hiked the contractor general fee by misrepresenting facts. He said that we hadn't paid him, but we had actually paid him and I found that he had overcharged us by $2,000. I want to caution people that he can be very friendly and very charming and very accommodating. He has done lot of work around Stillwater, but I have had people come and ask me how the job went because they had similar problems with him. My problems with him were not an isolated case. He will come across as being cost-efficient and fair, but then he will start making excuses when he makes mistakes and it will end up costing you a lot more. The people to whom we sold the house and who sued us had three different contractors come in to look at the problems and each of them said that it was the worst work they had ever seen in their lives.
