I originally called to have my ducts and furnace cleaned based on a good price seen on-line.  This was performed to my expectations. 

Two weeks later, I began having problems with the furnace operation.  (I can't tell if this was coincidence or not.  I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it was an old furnace).   I was having problems with my furnace blower not coming on.  They returned and diagnosed the problem as a broken fan/limit switch,  replacing it for $400.   The problem persisted after they left, and a new technician came back to take another look (no charge).   After another, more thorough inspection, everything appeared to be working properly, but a week later the blower motor failed completely leaving me with a cold house.  This was ultimately the problem, not the limit switch.  They quoted me $600 for the new motor, which was a significantly higher over other quotes I received.   (Others quoted about $350)  Plus their quote to have the furnace inspected to meet city code for a rental property was significantly higher than others.  

I gave up on them and had another outfit come out.  The new  company immediately spotted two cracks in the heat exchanger, a potentially dangerous condition for CO poisoning.  Hoffman missed this completely despite two inspections.

In summary, they changed a part that wasn't broken and their subsequent quotes were so high they could not even be considered for additional work.  Finally, they missed two important defects during their inspection that others caught in minutes.   I spent $400 on a furnace that got red-tagged anyway.

Work performed  as scheduled and appropriate.  However, it took several communications after the installation to get company to pull a  permit from city so I could have the job inspected.

We had 3 companies complete estimates for us. Something I respected on their part was during the estimate process, the salesman went through the estimate step by step on how he calculated his price. When we did look at a couple other estimates that came in slightly less than his he told us he quite frankly gave us the best price he could up front. He was not trying to bump up his prices, that he gave us his best price right off the bat. I respected that and it stood out to me. The way we talked I believed him when he said that. He was very friendly. He was willing to vouch for another company and their good work if we chose them instead of him. That was ultimately the reason we picked Hoffman over the other company that came in over $200 cheaper. That is not something you see on a regular basis so we went with them. I have already been recommending them and we will use them again if the need arises. Their price was just a bit more. They did give us a 10 year warranty.

They did a good job and they cleaned up after themselves. They were timely. Their price wasn?t the cheapest, but it was appropriate for what we got. I would use their services in the future too.

The job went okay. I thought that they hurried a little bit. They also got the lines crossed during the installation, so they are coming back to fix it. Their customer service was very good. They were very responsive to my phone call.

The sales rep was nice. The price was good. It was a hard decision, but we ended up going with a larger company that has been around longer.

Do your homework. Don't be enticed simply by rebates. To get a 95 per cent efficiency furnace we would have had to have broken the structural integrity of our roofs by cutting a hole in them, and we only needed an 80 efficiency for our square feet. Go on the internet and research the companies. We found that one furnace outfit had class action law suits against it, and another, who gave us a very low bid, had an F rating by Better Business Bureau. We are all extremely happy with Hoffman, Stillwater, and they even give us free duct cleaning.They are a Lennox dealer, and Lennox has excellent furnaces. I would recommend them to anyone.They have been in business since 1947.

The person called when close to my house; the person was punctual. The person removed shoes once in house. The person came prepared with repair parts possibly needed. The person did not ask to use the bathroom (this is such a common occurrance---my friends and I often comment about this fact). The time alloted was a 2 hour time frame but the person arrived at the beginning of that time and the work was all done by an hour. So often a person waits and waits and the worker does not show up until the end of the time-frame. Use of my time was more efficient because of the fact the person arrived early and was done in an hour.

It was 3 year nightmare.

It went very well. I thought it was a great performance. They had guys out who knew what they were talking about. And also they were very punctual and nice.

Cleaning and furnace check was scheduled for Friday, October 19 at 8:00 AM. The Hoffman employee showed up 45 minutes late, during the cleaning and furnace check process dropped his heavy, metal clipboard and split my linoleum floor. He also indicated early on in the visit that there was a problem with the furnace. Later, he stated that he had cycled the furnace several times and that it was in "good working order." Three weeks later my furnace wasn't kicking on during the day. Hoffman sent another repair employee out to inspect and he indicated that there were so many problems with the furnace that a total replacement would be warranted. When I inquired as to why the first Hoffman employee was adamant about the good health of the furnace when pointedly questioned during the first visit, Hoffman could only state that furnaces can break down quickly and that a breakdown must have occurred on mine in the three weeks between cleaning and the diagnosis of a total replacement.

Hoffman installed our furnace so we called them when our fan quit working. The repairman arrived but didn't have the part to fix it. He said he would return later the same day to finish the job. We waited but he never returned and finally returned our call later that night. He said he had the part in his truck and would fix it the next day. He didn't show up and by 4:30pm we made several calls to the office and to him. My husband talked to him (Dean) and he was very rude and wouldn't give us a time that he would be back. He showed up at 10:30pm because I believe his boss told him he had to. He fixed the fan on the furnace and said we needed a new air conditioner. He was very defensive and did not want to hear what we had to say. Our main problem was the poor communication and the lack of follow through on promises. We received a bid for the air conditioner, but decided we had enough.

I had wanted two return air ducts added to the basement. One of the lines they tapped into was not a return so it blows out rather than pulling air in. When I called they kind of shrugged it off. I have since figured out a work-around, but I shouldn't have had to. The duct cleaning was also not done very well. It seems as if some of the hard to get to areas were left untouched.

DENNIS WAS VERY NICE AND GAVE A CLEAR PRESENTATION OF THE A/C BRANDS THEY INSTALLED. OF THE FIVE DIFFERENT BIDS WE RECEIVED HIS WAS AMONG THE LOWEST. AN OFFERING OF A FREE DUCT CLEANING ALSO MADE HOFFMAN'S BID ATTRACTIVE. HOWEVER, HIS ASSESSMENT OF THE WORK REQUIRED TO INSTALL AN A/C UNIT IN OUR HOUSE WAS A BIT MORE BRIEF THAN THE REST OF THE COMPANIES WE RECEIVED ESTIMATES FROM. WE THEREFORE FELT A LITTLE LESS SURE ABOUT THE QUALITY OF INSTALLMENT HOFFMAN WOULD DO. WE DON'T DOUBT THEY ARE A GOOD COMPANY--WE JUST DECIDED TO GO WITH SOMEONE ELSE.

VERY FAST SERVICE (WITHIN 2 HRS. OF PHONE CALL). SERVICE NOT EXPECTED TO BE AS FAST DURING THE THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY SEASON. PRIOR SERVICE USED ON FURNACE TUNE-UP, VERY SATISFIED WITH SERVICE.

THE INSTALLERS WERE PROMPT AND SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. THEY INSISTED ON PAYMENT AT COMPLETION OF THE JOB. AFTER REPEATED CALLS TO SCOTT IN THE FALL AND WINTER, SCOTT FAILED TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THE ST. PAUL PERMIT. NO INSPECTOR CALLED. SCOTT STOPPED RETURNING MY CALLS. FINALLY IN JANUARY DENNIS DOERR, THE OTHER OWNER CALLED. HE TOLD ME THEY HAD NOT GOTTEN A PERMIT. HE WAS TRYING TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS WITH A PRIVATE INSPECTOR TO ARRANGE FOR A CITY INSPECTION. SO MY NEW BRACES WERE ADDED TO THE FURNACE, BUT NO INSPECTOR HAS CALLED. DENNIS HAS STOPPED RETURNING MY CALLS.

HOFFMAN INSTALLED OUR FURNACE IN ABOUT A DAY. THEIR QUOTE BEAT ALL THE COMPETITORS HANDS DOWN, AND THE INSTALLERS WERE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS AND SEEMED KNOWLEDGEABLE. SINCE THE INSTALL HOWEVER, OUR FURNACE HAS AN ODD VIBRATING NOISE WHEN RUNNING AT FULL POWER; I JUST CALLED THAT IN, AND THEY WILL COME CHECK IT OUT FOR US SOON.

DENNIS, THE OWNER, WAS VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE WITH HIS SALES PRESENTATION. HE RECOMMENDED THAT WE GET MORE THAN ONE ESTIMATE BEFORE CHOOSING A COMPANY TO DO THE WORK. HE WASN'T PUSHY AND WAS VERY PATIENT WITH MY QUESTIONS.

EXCELLENT SERVICE AND PRICE, POLITE, ON TIME, AND VERY CLEAN PICKED, UP AFTER THEM SELVES. I WOULD USE THEM AGAIN. THE WARRANTY WITH THEM WAS BETTER THAN ANY OTHER QUOTE I HAD AND SO WAS THE PRICE. THEY INCLUDED DUCT CLEANING WITH PURCHASE OF AIR CONDITIONER. I FELT DENNIS WAS VERY HONEST AND HELPED ME PICK THE CORRECT A/C FOR MY NEEDS.
