The next day, I spoke to them on the phone. They actually called me because they said that the tech wrote down my credit card incorrectly. I told them that I wasn't going to give them the card number until they made it right. The person on the phone agreed and said that the tech would call me and straighten things out. I didn't hear anything back and finally called them after several days. They said that the tech would call me. Now it has been almost 2 weeks and I still haven't heard from them.
I finally gave up on them. I found the manual for the fireplace (which wasn't easy) and got some replacement wires for the switch. I also cleaned the pilot assembly gently with some and quot;canned airand quot; and adjusted the pilot light (which I learned to do from the manual.) Just to be sure, I replaced the $20 thermopile as well. The pilot light is now a small blue flame (as pilot lights should be), I ran the voltmeter checks that were listed in the manual and everything now checks out. Now the fireplace is running great with no issues. It wasn't that hard... but I spent a lot of time figuring it out.
There absolutely was NO EXPENSIVE REMOTE CONTROL INSTALL REQUIRED to get the fireplace working correctly again. In fact, the manual doesn't even mention one.
Either the tech as in a complete hurry, or didn't know what he was doing. Many of the things that they said they did, they didn't do right (adjust pilot light, check wires), and their final diagnosis of my problem was totally incorrect.
The only thing that they did do well was get here on time, vacuum up some bugs and clean the glass. I hardly think that is worth $300.
At least they wrote down my credit card number wrong and I haven't paid them anything.

First, our meeting at their showroom with Tony Criswell, sales rep, was excellent. He did a great job of exploring options that fit our preferences, and explaining differences, instead of and quot;sellingand quot; us something. Very thorough.
Installation was by subcontractors, who were generally punctual and professional. Only problem was the electric subcontractor (Suburban Electric) was very casual about inspection/permitting, so I had to step in to handle that process.
Unit has been great. There was a little problem with a part, but they stopped back and repaired that quickly, no argument.
All in all, I liked dealing with these people and would certainly recommend them to others.
Overall, the serviceman was punctual, cost less then I thought (these things are always expensive), did a very nice job and I would hire them again.
