+ -1 moreThe price that S&S quoted us was more than I'd expect to pay from other tree service companies, but they did exactly what we needed them to without destroying our fence. They had a tight, awkward area to work in. We have had some other problems with other tree removal companies (like dropping branches on trees not being removed), so the little extra cost for S&S seems well worth it. We will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Removal of 2 mid-sized Siberian Elm trees growing at an angle over fence and street.

+ -1 moreEverything went perfectly. They arrived early and ensured that the power co personnel had arrived to drop power lines. They reviewed with me again my desires for how I wanted the tree trimmed and their recommendations to ensure the integrity and shape of the tree was maintained. They were fastidious with the cleanup, even removing old branches that were under the tree from before. There was no mess left behind and we couldn't be more happy with the way the tree looks, especially since they had to do all of it by hand without the use of a cherry-picker. They were done in less than an hour and a half and it was not an easy job. This is the best job we have ever had done in over 30 years of tree trimming services and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend S&S to anyone.

Description of Work: The job was to prune a large silver maple in the front yard. Also I needed a Spruce tree snipped back where it was hanging over the sidewalk and cur back away from the house. Large dead wood was to be removed from both trees.

+ -1 moreThey provided an estimate within a day of our initial call. Because of the recent storms in the area they were a little backlogged so it took a little over a week for them to schedule us. The crew arrived on schedule, pruned out the deadwood, and hauled off the debris.

While some have said that they're a little more expensive than other outfits, I'd argue that you get what you pay for. In fact, I've been so pleased that I haven't solicited other bids for my two projects. Work was excellent as was their cleanup.
Description of Work: I've had S&S perform work twice since moving into our new (old) house. The first time was to trim a large black walnut tree ($550)and the second time to remove a smaller tree and trim arborvitaes($400). Both times they promptly provided estimates within a day of my call and completed the work shortly thereafter--and did a great job.

Description of Work: On August 11, 2007 neighbors and I sustained significant tree damage and loss in a major storm that hit the metro area in the early hours of the morning. A neighbor had contacted this company on August 11th and they were out to our homes later that same day to give us an estimate. I was given an estimate of over $8000. The estimate done for my property included a spruce tree that even with all the downed trees and fallen branches around it to my inexperienced eye was whole and intact and not in need of being removed. He recommended its removal. He included a tree that was not even mine. I found another person to do the job a few days later. What was estimated at over $8000 ended up being less than $800. This is a big company with a big reputation. While I had enough wherewithal to follow up, what about more vulnerable people or just uninformed people?

+ -1 moreDidn't hire them, their bid was more than double the bid of the lowest bidder and their availability was worse. They come highly recommended from Angie's List and from the neighborhood. I just can't figure out why they were so much more expensive than another licensed and insured company. Go figure.
Description of Work: Remove tree that had fallen onto garage and wrapped itself in power line. Remove other ill-placed trees on property, including an approximately 25 foot maple and a 30 foot honey locust. Stump grind and remove debris. Estimate $3000.

Once we decided to accept the bid, they called that evening to tell us that they would be out the next day to do the work. They arrived the next day with 6+ guys and 3 trucks and were done in less than 30 minutes. EXCELLENT work. No debris left behind nor any landscaping harmed.

+ -1 moreThey are very reliable and we've been happy with them. We had a tree go down and I was afraid it would land on our neighbor's house and because we had used them before they came out right away and helped us even though there were trees down all over the city. They did quite a bit of work.
Description of Work: They came and took down 2 large trees that were dying, they also did some pruning and stump grinding and chipped all the wood. They trimmed some smaller trees as well.

+ -1 moreThe tree was removed without incidence, with no damage to my house, fence or interference with the overhead phone line. The maintenance on the American Linden was a dramatic improvement. The other quotes I received only proposed to trim the branches touching the house back. Though this was more expensive than just trimming a few branches back, the result was worth it.
Description of Work: S&S removed a large, dead maple tree from my yard. It was in very close proximity to my house, fence, and a telephone line. The stump for this tree was also grinded. They also trimmed and raised the canopy on a mature American Linden in my yard. The company provided literature with their proposal, outlining the pruning process and benefits. This tree, which apparently hadn't been trimmed in quite some time, was touching the roof and hanging extremely low in the yard.

+ -1 moreThey came out promptly to give me an estimate. Once I accepted the estimate, they scheduled the pruning within a week. I was having some landscaping done under the trees and it was important for the pruning to be done beforehand, so doing the work promptly was important to me. The crew's leader was very pleasant and answered all my questions. He noticed that the maple tree was growing mostly on one side (kind of lopsided), so he attempted to prune it in such a way as to encourage growth on the other side. Time will tell. They did a good job of cleaning up all the branches and leaves. I've used this company several times and I've always had a good experience.
Description of Work: I had two large ash trees and one small maple tree pruned. They also cut back some overhanging bushes/trees from the neighbor's yard.

Description of Work: Removed dying Elm tree from backyard and debarked stump. Elm had Dutch Elm disease. Tree was very close to screened porch. Required climbing tree and lowering larger branches by rope. Removed Boxelder tree from backyard. Was a smaller tree and no tree climbing was required. Removed all debris and chipped the trees. Cleaned up the street after chipping.

We were very concerned about this project as the tree was in a very difficult location over our house with power lines, fences, a new patio, etc. in the way. We can't say enough about how good this team was, they knew exactly what to do and did not leave a scratch anywhere and they cleaned everything up, and they were very reasonably priced! Knowing now the high quality service that they provide, we'd hire them again even if they were twice the price.

+ -1 moreIt cost $75 to get their estimate. I also received quite a bit of information on what they would be able to do and how I might be able to do the work myself. The full estimate was for over $1,000 which included the removal of a couple of trees, and several of the things I listed above. I ended up doing the work myself (which I would not have felt capable of doing prior to the advice I received from S & S).
Description of Work: S & S came out and gave me an estimate on what work was needed on the trees in my yard. We had a variety of issues including some trimming, tree removal and questions about the health of a couple of trees.
