CABINETS BY DAN

I contacted Cabinets by Dan on a Friday and had an estimate back by the end of the day. The cabinet was installed less than 2 months later by Kevin and Todd. They were very polite and professional. I am very happy with the finished product. It matches my existing cabinets perfectly.

The project was flawlessly completed all along the way. Dan contacted us and arranged to visit our home within a day or two of my initial contact to learn more about the scope of our project and to provide additional considerations. We later received a detailed CAD drawing of our plan and an accurate price estimate. The company fabricated the cabinet doors, crown, and new cabinet with beautiful oak wood that had been carefully selected. When it came time for installation, Todd and Kevin preformed excellently. Their attention to detail and skill was outstanding which resulted in a perfectly upgraded kitchen. They were a pleasure to have working in our home. Terry was our main office contact when we needed questions answered and she was always readily available and helpful. I would definitely use Cabinets by Dan for any custom work that needed to be done. I now have a beautiful kitchen that I like.

Cabinet's by Dan came highly recommended, and I can see why. Mark was very thorough in his design and drawing review. He guided us through each cabinet, design options, and recommended changes along the way. The installation went very well, professional installers on site right on time, and they worked efficiently to get them all up in one day without any issues. They also coordinated our counter top selection, measurement, and installation as well, and we couldn't be happier!

I have a built in TV/Shelf Unit that I no longer had a TV in. They built a partician and shelves in the opening that matched the existing. Looks like it was originally built that way! Great service, Excellent Quality!

Cabinets By Dan is very disorganized:  Twice they told us to be ready at 7:00 am, then they showed up at 9:30 or 10:00. They made the drawer fronts incorrectly and we had to wait two weeks for them to redo the drawers and complete the installation.  They promised us stain to do some touch-up on the cabinet boxes, and we never received it.  The worst, though, is that the new cabinet fronts are too light, and they really stand out against  the top and bottom boxes.  We called our contact to discuss this; he told us--rightly--that we approved the color sample, but the fact remains that the end product does not look good.  He suggested that we try going darker by putting a little brown over the existing color, and said he would have a color sample made up.  We have yet to see that sample--when we called our contact to ask about it, we were told that their stainer is "uber busy" because they were working on repairing another project--somehow some black flecks got into some white paint, ruined a big project, and set their timeline back because they were redoing that too. 

At this point we have decided to give up on this company.   We had a very nice, and very expensive, partial kitchen remodel done about ten years ago.  Some custom cabinetry was done as part of that project, and we called our remodeler to ask them who they used for that.  We contacted that company, and a redo will not be easy because we no longer have the original color reference--Cabinets By Dan accidentally threw out our original doors after telling us they would set a few aside for us.  Nonetheless, we are pursuing a redo with a competitor.  Cabinets By Dan has very good installers--that part of the project went very well--but we no longer have faith in this company's ability to deliver us a satisfactory end result.

Overall it went very well.  We had a little miscommunication on the completion date but we were able to work things out and be completly statisfied.  Dan was awesome to work with as was Mark.  Both offered fantastic advice when it came to making selections.  They are not the cheapest game in town but the quality makes them one of the best values.  They were very professional and pleasant to work with and I would highly recommend them to anyone looking to do any kind of cabinet/counter project.

Very friendly staff, very knowledgeable with specs for; clearance of lighting, sink, microwave, under counter fridge.  Very helpful and lots to choose from different styles of cabinet design, wood-type, stain, hardware, cabinet glass, in their showroom.   They were on-time with estimate of ready to install. Very friendly and courteous.   I would highly recommend Cabinets by Dan as the provided exactly what we were looking for.  We had no issues what-so-ever!

I wanted to replace two under the counter sinks in the bathroom.  As I was to find out, this is not a job done by a plumber.  It is a smaller job that some companies don't want to bother with.  I called Cabinets by Dan as it was listed on Angies List as a company that works with granite.  Dan came over the same day as the call and said he would send someone over to do the job, though it was a much smaller job than they usually deal with.  His worker came over this morning and did a wonderful job - it was done to perfection.  At the end of the job, pictures were taken of the work, so they could be seen by Dan, assuring that the job was done right.   Dan had taken pictures of the job before the work had been done.   Would definitely recommend this company to all, small job or large.

I am a former teacher and I don't give easy 'A's.  Cabinets by Dan certainly earned the A rating I gave them across the board.  I found this cabinet making company on Angie's List.  At my first meeting, I was unsure what I wanted for my bathroom renovation.  The staff gave me their time and were very helpful.  They were on time for appointments at my house; first to measure and then to install.  The cabinet and countertops are very well made and are just right.  The cost was reasonable.  I did have other estimates.  In fact, one employee suggested a cost saving measure.  The vanity countertops aren't very large.  He suggested that I look for two large remnants.  I did, found two I liked, and saved about half the cost for the countertops.  I will be hiring them soon for kitchen countertops.

This is a test of time review: Two years later the project looks great.

The clear coat cedar has aged  beautifully; a comment to the quality materials they use.  Drawers and doors all function perfectly.  Joints remain clean and tight.  Their ability to take a customers detailed design and make it a reality is only outdone by the value the project has added to my house.

The entire process was excellent. They answered all of my questions to scope the project, select the materials and sizes I wanted. Craftsmanship was great. Above all, they were responsive, up front, and punctual, I didn't have a single no-show or un-returned phone call. Great experience all around.

We were very impressed with the friendliness, kindness, and integrity everyone at Cabinets by Dan showed us. Our first carpenter examined each of the cabinets that we expected to replace, and fixed two of them with just the tools in his belt! Then he showed us how to do it ourselves next time, and set up an appointment for his colleague to return with wood and supplies to fix the other three. While the second carpenter from Cabinets by Dan was fixing one of the cabinets, he came across my husband's stash of Christmas cash -- which my husband had forgotten was in the broken cabinet, natch -- and alerted us to it. We were very impressed by Cabinets by Dan and are looking forward to another broken cabinet so that we can call them again!

It was a great experience. The guy did a very little work. He did it really well. He was very timely and did a great match. The work that we use him for was very great, but we didn't him very much. It was a minimal work. He did great with what we used him for. We would probably use him for a bigger project. We were referred to him by another family. The workmanship was great. His cost was reasonable. He delivered on time. He delivered a good product. He seemed very good at coming up with suggestion. We were thinking about how to go about it and he came with really nice suggestion. He gave us some recommendation. He was giving us what we wanted and wasn't forcing things on us. He seemed reasonable for what he did.

They were really good. They were awesome and I highly recommend them. They were very courteous and their pricing was right. I felt okay around them because they were really nice.

We have a beautiful new kitchen! Dan and his staff were a pleasure to work with. Their organized showroom and professional advice made it easy for us to make selections and determine how to proceed with our project. We chose new cabinet doors, some with glass and one with a chalkboard finish. Dan had suggestions on new inserts that would improve the function of our kitchen. They built the new doors and drawers to fit our existing cabinetry, installed them, then new and old was refinished in a lovely ivory color of our choice and a coppery glaze was applied. Lovely!

Dan was able to send someone out on a short notice to cut out the back of my countertop and backsplash to accommodate a slide in range that was being delivered in a couple of days. He provided me with an estimate within 24 hours. The work was perfectly done and it took very little time. I was very pleased with the turn around and the service that was provided. I would certainly use them in the future.

Can't say enough about this project and how Dan and his company provided excellent guidance. Would highly recommend him.

The end product is good. But getting it installed was a problem. They had to re-schedule several times and even though they aren't a general contractor recommended some prep-work that was delayed due to other projects being done by them. We asked for a couple of extras that weren't written down and fortunately the installer caught one which we really wanted completed. So, gotta keep an eye on what is written down and all of the details. Seems like they had other jobs interfering with our work or finishing problems that they knew they might encounter but didn't tell us up front.

Cabinets by Dan helped us with some built-ins lockers for our mudroom. He matched them perfectly to the rest of our house and they look amazing. It looks as if they've always been there! We will definitely be using him again for our future projects.

Because the project took so long to start from the cabinet planning, it was hard to invision how everything would look end-state.
When getting custom cabinets, you may not get what you want/or what will correctly work with special features. Once you find that the cabinets are in and something is not what you wanted, it is cost-prohibitive to make any changes since you've "signed off" on the specifications.
Do's
Use a custom cabinet maker that your builder or someone you know has highly recommended.
Consider how long you plan to remain in your house in making decisions on doing custom cabinents.
Make sure you fully understand the impact of design changes in your remodel.
Make sure you get an "end-state" sample of the color of the cabinet to use in matching with your countertops, floors, doors, etc.
Make sure your general contractor works with the cabinet maker on any issues. (We had a problem with a bread board that was
not working correctly after the counter-tops were installed. Our general contractor worked with the cabinet maker to resolve
the issue satisfactorily.)
At the end of the project, I realized that the major redesign of a cabinet was not as functional as it could have been. Make sure bookshelves in the project meet your depth requirements. Make sure that all deep cabinets have pull-out drawers.
