We discovered Erik through a friend who hired him to do some remodeling on their house and who recommended him to us. He proved to be incredibly polite and responsive, with invaluable ideas of his own for solving problems particular to our house (e.g. small bathrooms in need of careful consideration as to design). He was very respectful of our budget constraints, respecting my wish to do the painting of walls and wood trim (ie, the only thing I can personally do well!), and brought some great design ideas to the table that I would not have thought of myself. He's knowledgeable about new versus old materials and their relative strengths and weaknesses, as well as new versus old construction, which is really helpful to me, as I have lots of questions I like answered. My family and I are in an older house that we expect will continue to be in need of repairing, replacing, and remodeling. Erik is the guy I'm always going to call first. He's a man of many talents and runs a small company with a great personal touch.

Erik's attention to detail, reliability, and construction expertise are top notch. We have also always found his pricing to be fair, honest, and reasonable. Several years ago, we worked with Erik to convert our screened porch into a four season room with in-floor heating; new windows, siding, and ceramic tile were installed. The converted porch is now one of our favorite rooms in the house. More recently, we called Erik to help us convert our attic into another bedroom. The project went smoothly and on-time with a wonderful end result. Erik has also completed numerous other projects in our home (e.g. replacing doors, windows, smaller carpentry projects) always to our satisfaction. We plan to continue utilizing his services for future home improvement and home maintenance projects, and have recommended him highly to our friends.

My roof was damaged from hail and wind. Weathershield worked with my insurance claims department to insure that all necessary repairs would be covered. The Weathershield team kept me up to date on the process and when I was ready to have the work done, the actual lead roofer was the one who came to my home to fully go over the complete job ahead of time and finalize all the paperwork. He was very tedious in explaining all details of the work and answering any concerns I may have had. The crew completed the job in a day and a half and were very considerate of my home, including landscaping and decking. The cleanup was extraordinary as great attention was placed on not leaving nails and other debris for my boxer, Jakie, or my feet to find. I'm already planning on having weathershield back out to do some other work around my house. The honesty and dedication to a job done completely and accurately is just what I was looking for in a contracting company. GREAT JOB WEATHERSHIELD !!!!

I suppose this company would be considered a "storm seeker" - going door- to- door asking to give estimates for storm damage. They somehow found damage and gave us an estimate to replace roof and siding leading us to believe fascia would be replaced as well - this caused us to change the color. Turns out fascia wasn't replaced and we had to hire another company to paint it as well as the soffits costing us over $2000. We were guaranteed that we would not have to pay any additional to what they would get us from our insurance company (We upgraded to steel over vinyl and knew that $1819.29 would be at our expense.) and we have given all that was given us. The original estimate was $23.036.67, but we received a final bill (FINALLY) and it said agreed amt. per insurance summary was $31,908.51 - not even close!!! We have paid $30,844.18 (insurance payments) and are still expected to pay another $3000. I have never come across a company with worse record keeping - we had to tell the owner Erik Wilson - at least 4 times what color siding we wanted. He seemed never to write anything down. He refused to call us at the number we requested and continued to call my husband's work phone even though he was told many, many times to please not call that number.
Response from Weather Shield Contracting Inc
"The original estimate approved by the insurance was for 23,536.67, but it only covered part of the roof and one side of the house. We were able to prove to the insurance that the property needed to be fully covered. Because the insurance agreed with this additional work to be done, the price released by the insurance company to be paid for the work increased to 32, 408.51. Since it was agreed by all parties to do all four sides of the house and the roof, we were to be compensated for the entire project as per our contract. It is a rarity that the insurance will cover the entire soffit and fascia of a home, in this case it was only 37 linear feet. The members had asked us for a quote to do all of the soffit and fascia which we were able to provide… but they declined to do the work. They had also omitted to mention that we deducted the price of replacing the fascia from their final bill since they opted to not do the work. Finally…Completion of the work was done on Sept of 2008… Collection of the final bill agreed to by the insurance and homeowner was finally collected on July 29 of 2009 over 10 months after the final invoice was sent out. We repeatedly tried to reach them on all numbers given leaving messages, yet for some reason we received no response to our invoices until such time. We received a final payment from them and a letter complaining that they had paid a company 3600 to simply paint their soffits and fascia ..yet our bid was for 4600 which included all new door wraps, garage door wraps and all new soffit and fascia as well, which left us confused why they did not choose our reasonable proposal. Thank you for allowing us to share our side of the story. We pride ourselves in providing quality workmanship and look forward to serving you in the future."
