Worked with this company for several months, multiple visits to the site, etc. After securing the finances for the project, they stopped contacting me, and would take weeks at a time to respond. After calling, texting, and emailing, they finally just said "we can't do your project anymore". In this time I have paid thousands of dollars in loan payments, and have lost the timeline I was originally going for. The sheer lack of professionalism has shocked me, and I'm financially struggling because of Spartan Inc. Mike (the owner), I'm incredibly disappointed.
Response from Spartan, Inc.
"Wow, what an incredibly unfair review. We worked with you for several months and created several revisions to the bid (for free). We did not agree to accept your project, we did not sign a contract, we did not accept any money from you. You were very difficult to work with during the bid process and even more difficult when we were discussing possible scheduling. I decided not to proceed with the project because I didn’t think that we would work well together. Your loans and payments are your business. Good luck with your project."

Excellent, very pleased with the results. Took our design ideas and made it happen! Once they started the project, very consistent, reliable and easy to work with. Resourceful and great problem solvers. Made sure we were involved and satisfied in the decision making process. Honest, accurate and upfront in estimates and unforeseen additional cost. We look forward to working with them again.

Great! The project involved a complete gutting of our master bath; we replaced all fixtures, flooring, painted walls a d brought up to code.we were very impressed with their attention to detail and quality work. In spite of the pandemic and crazy delivery schedules, the project was completed on schedule and to our complete satisfaction. Love the result !

Needed an old shower still demo’d to increase the size of the bathroom. Mike was easy to work with and Jake did awesome work. The demo was way more work than originally thought so the job took a couple of extra days but Spartan stuck to the original quote. Would definitely work with again.

I've waited for a couple of weeks to post this review just to verify that everything was working (and if not, how Spartan would follow-up). There have been no issues so here goes: I reached out to Spartan through Angie's list in mid December - they got back to me the next day and we scheduled an appointment for an estimate. I eventually decided to go with Spartan because I wanted to do business with a smaller local company and their estimate was in-line with what else I had received (also - most of their reviews were quite positive). Work began early January. I dealt with Mike for the majority of the planning phase - I very much appreciate his willingness to work around my schedule and meet with me in the earlier part of the mornings. Chad then was my point of contact for the actual remodeling phase, and I believe also did much of the work (I moved out of the house while the work was being done so I'm not sure who else worked on it). Honestly, the work was done as a repair (the tile in my shower was failing and the floor needed work due to a prior leak) more than something that was done as a voluntary upgrade, so when asked for design choices I pretty much said that I didn't care and let Chad figure that out. I'm kind of glad that I did because the new bathroom looks fantastic (Onyx shower panels/vanity top and a gray colored motif). The overall experience was a positive one - the workmanship appears very solid and although I had moved out for the duration of the remodel, I was at the house for a few hours every single day and could see the progress being made. If forced to mention any drawbacks from the service I can only really think of one - clean up. Overall, the workers did a fantastic job cleaning up...my home was no doubt cleaner than when they had arrived. However - there some leftover debris from the floor repair that had found its way behind the washing machine in my basement. I will mention that the rest of the area where debris had fallen was cleaned well, they just missed that one area. This is nothing that a few minutes with a shop-vac wasn't able to remedy, but I figured I'd mention it so that this review wasn't just unbridled praise. I would hire Spartan again to do more work on my home.

I could not speak more highly of our experience with Spartan. We had roughly 10 contractors come through to bid on our kitchen remodel and Mike (owner) was the obvious choice for us. He was reasonably priced, knowledgable, easily accessible and an all around great guy. He worked with us for months prior to the start of our project. He had all of his subs and project manager come through our house to help guide us through the process of our project. Once our project started, our project manager, Mark, was a wealth of knowledge and incredibly talented. We actually nicknamed him "The Details Guy". The entire teamed cared about our project and put a tremendous amount of time and energy into it. Mike has amazing subs that work with him. Everyone that came through our house over a 4 month period (actual project time) was professional, friendly, trust worthy and hard working. We ended up with a full kitchen model, added on a mudroom which required foundation work. We also added a deck off of our new back entrance. We are thrilled with the results. We got exactly what we wished for and were completely within our budget. We would and WILL absolutely use Spartan for all of our future projects. These guys are great!

First, and most important, don't take my "B" grades as bad grades. I'm fussy. The bottom line is, I would have Spartan back to do future work. We had work (two bathroom remodels) done late summer 2018 - as I write it is May 2019 and not a day goes by when my wife and I aren't pleased with our "new" bathrooms. I'd call Spartans "caring craftsmen." There work is beautiful. Mike was always available to discuss the progress of the project. Not surprising there were changes mid-project -- some upgrades, some cutbacks. The upgrades were well worth it. A couple of things I'd like better: the project lasted 10 weeks, I'm told that's not outrageous but I wish it was 8 weeks. Previous walls were wallpaper and I wanted to pull all wallboard off down to the studs. Spartan thought that was an unnecessary expense. But, as it turns out, the wallpaper wouldn't come off and we had to go down to the studs and it cost two (maybe three) days of trying. On the plus side - the new shower looks fabulous; the ceramic tile (full bath) and ceramic floors were masterfully done; and the wood working to install new vanities and cabinet doors were done with great attention to detail. And Spartan brought in excellent plumbers and electricians. Do be discouraged by my "B" grade - I wish the job could have gone faster and the final bill was a tad lower, but maybe I'm being unrealistic. I wasn't gouged and the rooms look great!

They were wonderful to work with! This was a small job - an update of the tub area - new tub, shower, fixtures, door & tile. It took about 2-3 weeks. Started 4/17, finished on 5/8. They were able to install pretty large 24" square tiles and a frameless glass doors plus 4 corner shelves. They even replaced the pipes leading into the tub. They had to come back a couple of times to re-touch the caulk, but they were very efficient in making the repair. It’s been fine, and we love the results! I would highly recommend Spartan.

We hired Spartan to remodel our bathroom. And I should start by saying that I am (not really, but jokingly) reluctant to write this glowing review, for fear that I will have to share these guys with lots of new clients and I won’t have them all to myself for my next project! Haha :) We didn’t have a ton of money to throw at our bathroom so I was worried that they would not take the job, or take it seriously. Well they not only treated this job (I think) the same as they would a $70k kitchen remodel, but they also did small things to help us stay within our budget, such as letting me buy the materials when I could get them cheaper, and they were even willing to let another contractor do part of the job if they were lower cost. (That ended up not being necessary but how many places would willingly do that?!) We had them rip out the old floor (plus like four layers of linoleum added over the decades!) in the bathroom and hallway, knock out a wall to merge a closet with the bathroom, move the sink, move some electrical, install a new sink and lights and put the new floor in and paint etc. It turned out gorgeous and the bathroom is (perhaps sadly!) now the classiest room in my house. :) The main person you will deal with for sales and project management is Mike. He has a calm (and calming) disposition and is careful with his estimates so as not to promise things that can’t be done, while also suggesting things that I had not thought of. The ones who actually did the work were Paul and Dave. Dave is trained as a cabinet maker and as such is an expert craftsman. He was the “brains” behind our remodel, so he will not only know the best way to accomplish what you want to do, but he will see to it that it is executed perfectly. Paul did a lot of the actual day to day work and was the one I dealt with most often. He is the one that made sure everything actually got done and finished all the way to the end, including the less “fun” parts like sanding, painting and cleanup. He is friendly and approachable with a great sense of humor, and fun to talk with. I really can’t say enough good things about these guys. I enjoyed their personalities as well as the quality of their work, not to mention the way they tried to make sure everything was possible with our small budget. Granted the project did exceed our original budget but that is because I was having so much fun tearing things apart we decided to add to the project scope! Now that it is done, I am already planning and saving up money for 3 other projects I have in mind for them next. I have found my contractor of choice and will call them for everything from now on. They will probably be sick of me soon. :) I also own my own business so from my experience, I think the couple of the so-so reviews I saw on here are from anxious customers who expect contractors to be mind readers and will accept nothing less than 100% perfection in all things — there are people like that, but I am not this way (and by the way neither is the world we live in!). Just treat them like a friend who is doing some work, and they will do the same for you! Again, I sort of don’t want to share them ;), but if you are looking for an honest, reasonably priced, good quality company to do some work on your house, you should absolutely consider Spartan. It matters to them that you are happy, they do great work, won't leave you hanging for months and months to finish (like some of those horror stories you hear), and they will be honest in their dealings with you. You will not be disappointed!

Trim and door frames were replaced, and the installation of the wood itself was well done, however, with complete lack of foresight. We specifically stated we did not want cuts done in the house, and the workers filled our house with dust while sawing indoors without even hooking up a shop vac to the saw. Little effort was made to clean. We specifically stated that we would go with thicker trim to go over the older existing trim, so they just went in and replaced trim that was smaller than the existing trim, leaving damaged walls and holes in the floor. Then we got the bill and the materials cost was higher than the estimate - never occurred to them to let us know at the beginning of the project when they bought the supplies. We had the work done while we were out of town, I recommend using a different contractor, or at least staying at home and babysitting the work they do.
Response from Spartan, Inc.
"Thank you for your review. I am glad that you agree that we completed a nice installation. I would like to respond to the other issues that you raised in your review. 1. Weather: you wanted this project completed while you were out of town. You said that your wife is pregnant and that you didn’t want the disruption while you were home. As I told you before the project we typically set up the saw outside if the weather is reasonable. We did most of this work during the week that schools were closed due to the temps dropping to -25 or lower. It was just too cold to work outside. 2. Basement: you have an unfinished basement with a workshop. We saw this as the best reasonable option for completion of the work. You never told us that cutting outside was a requirement, you just asked where we usually cut the trim. I didn’t get the impression from you that this would be a problem. 3. Clean up: we swept up our work area after we installed the trim. Sometimes sawdust can be airborne and 2-3 sweeps are required for cleanup. We were planning to be back on site (to install the door and 2 windows) and we planned to clean again while onsite. 4. Wall damage: we explained this to you before the project started. The walls are 80+ year old plaster and the trim/walls have been painted many times. There is no way to remove the trim without a little damage to the walls. The old paint basically glues the trim to the walls. Sparkling the damaged areas is typically done during the painting process and you were doing that part of the project. 5. Size of trim: You chose the trim... at no point did you ask me for a recommendation on the materials. Most new trim is narrower than the trim used many years ago. To replace trim with the same profile we would have had to get custom trim instead of trim from Lowe’s. Custom trim is very expensive. You know exactly what you wanted and didn’t want any opinions from us so we just installed the materials that you chose. Resolution: We decided not to install your windows and door because it became clear that your expectations were not reasonable and could not be met. We compensated you (reduction on invoice) for the extra basement sweep and the wall repairs even though the wall repairs were not in our scope of work. The next time that you hire a contractor you might want to consider the fact that remodeling is a difficult business. We are usually working on an imperfect structure and trying to do a perfect installation. We have to make difficult decisions like where to cut wood when it is -25 outside and complete our project on time. As you can see from our 100 reviews (A rating) and our 3 annual service awards that we take pride in our work and our service. While we try to make everyone happy sometimes that is just not possible. Mike"

The work was extensive and completed on schedule. Communication met all expectations and the workmanship was above average. The employees were professional yet friendly and made helpful suggestions. We were impressed with how quickly Spartan got back to us and got someone scheduled to come out to do the job. Chad showed up on time, assessed the situation and completed the work in one day even though the grout had to be replaced instead of just cleaned because of its age. He also noticed our bathtub drain stopper was stuck and fixed it. The bill for the work was reasonable. We'd use this service again.

Work was good quality, but did not stay on schedule. I suggest that your contract have a clear date for "substantial completion" and "liquidated damages". Only after I added these did the work proceed on a schedule. The plumber sub made several mistakes, including installing the plumbing so that the disposal could only be installed on the wrong sink.
Response from Spartan, Inc.
"[Member Name Removed], thank you for your review. The primary reason that our project took longer to complete was the fact that you ordered cheap cabinets from Home Depot that needed to be altered and rebuilt to be properly installed... and you ordered the wrong sizes for the bathroom project so we had to wait for new cabinets to arrive. Our plumber made a mistake and it was corrected. Thank you."
