I was given all of the information & services that I needed.
"Unfortunately, I believe this reviewer confused us with another staging company. We have no records of his name or property address. The consultations we provide are $200, provide a full written report and generally take between 1.5 and 2 hours."
We were also provided with a great "when you can" list of items to look for to enhance the look and feel of our home further. (What color of furniture to buy in the future, what type and color of rug for entryway, a suggested type of artwork for a certain spot, etc.)
I keep our "when you can" list with me when I shop and have been able to find some great deals on things that improve the look of our home thanks to Sharon's expert advice.
When I emailed the owner to say I was not happy with her work, she questioned my taste, the style tastes of my neighbors, and the style tastes of my girlfriend stating that we had neither the credentials not the experience to know anything about interior decorating. She reminded me how dated my house was, that I had antique brass fixtures, vinyl flooring, and berber carpeting (perish the thought, berber carpeting!!). Then she said that the realtors who did not like the staging work were simply trying to get my listing and were appeasing me by agreeing with my comments (not only do I have no fashion sense, but those around me also have no integrity). When I told her that either we needed to work together or part ways quickly, she said she was willing to switch out a few pieces and then admitted that they were so busy that their 'warehouse' was empty; evidently, what I had gotten was the last of their inventory. Perhaps they were the last items that they had chosed not to put in other people's homes?
I looked at pictures of some of her other items from houses scheduled to close within the next week but decided to stage the house myself with furniture from my other house rather that risking another staging attempt when things had gone so poorly the first go-round. The owner said they could pick up the furniture the followiing Wednesday (one week after staging) but that she would only refund me $900 of the $1,400 she had charged. Tuesday morning, I was sitting in the staged house working on my computer. Suddenly, I heard someone trying to get into the house (did not bother to knock until after finding that the door was locked). The guy at the door, who I have since learned is the owner's husband, said he and the fellow with him were here to pick up the furniture. I told him that the owner had said they would come on Wednesday. He said, and quot;Isn't it Wednesday?and quot; Dumfounded, I told him, and quot; No, it's definitely not Wednesday.and quot; The conversation went downhill from there. He asked me to move my car so they could back their trailer into the driveway. I looked at the trailer knowing that with the steep incline of my driveway that the trailer was likely to scuff up my newly sealed driveway. Noticing my look, he said, and quot; What?and quot; I told him my concern; he said it was no problem last time so it would not be a problem this time.
After finishing my work on the computer, I watched his helper turn a picture in my stairway that made a clunk as it hit my wall. When I told him what happened, the worker said that he doubted he had done it. I told him he could check the bottom corner of the picture as there would be white paint on it fromt he impact to my wall. The owner's husband asked if I had any spackling, followed me into the garage, grabed a troweling knife and said, and quot; Here's a putty knfe.and quot; When I told him it wasn't a putty knife, he said, and quot;Well what is it then?and quot; Having had enough of his rude behavior, I told him that if he was going to argue with me or cause any more problems that he would have to leave. He backed up, I told him I would fix the dent myself, and he never said another thing to me. BTW, when they tried to leave, they had to stop to unload the entire trailer, because it was about to gouge the driveway. Long, long, long story short, it cost me $500 to rent bad leftover furniture for one week, not to mention that at the same time, my house was delayed from getting on the market.
"We are sorry the client feels this way about our company. Some of his statements are simply not true but we will not argue each point. We should have not taken him as a client, because he did the same thing to a stager before us. We have staged and/or consulted over 1600 homes in the last 10 years. And as our history on Angie's List proves, this is the first time we have not received an A in our reviews. We hope that potential clients will look at our history, rather than one agressive, unreasonable client."
SO - when we moved into our new home and were confronted with what seemed like acres of blank walls we called Sharon and she came and looked over our pieces, asked if there were specific items that we wanted in specific locations. We pretty much gave her free rein and she came up with really nice wall groupings and was able to incorporate just about all of our objects into eye-pleasing places.
We strongly recommend Sharon - she does wonderful work!
"Thank you for your nice report, member! It's been a pleasure helping you with space and working with all of your home sellers, we appreciate your business!"
Sharon (from Simply Staged) showed up on time and started working right away. She went room to room sometimes making small subtle changes and sometimes changing the look and feel completely.
The house now feels warm and appealing and is ready to go for showings/open houses. Thanks to her help, the house looks great and I can now focus on other small touch-up stuff. Sharon’s help was worth every penny.
