Ryan met with us in late Fall 2009 to bid out our project. The plans were already drawn up by an independent architect, so I was able to get 3 different bids from the same plans to compare apples to apples. Ryan was the lowest bid, but that wasn't the deciding factor as to why we went with him. His demeanor at our meeting was exactly what we were looking for: easy to work with and looking to please the customer. My initial impression after meeting with him was later confirmed by 3 references he provided that were all stellar. Two of the references had used his services on more than one project. Ryan was generally prompt in all call-backs throughout the project. He started on the targeted start date, and initially the project went quite quickly from excavation to foundation to framing/windows/door. This was largely because he did most of this work himself with his employee. Things did slow down once the subcontractors had to play larger roles. The sheetrocker got the wallboard up quickly, but the tapers were a little slow, partly due to personal issues. When I voiced my concern to Ryan about the delay, he promptly got a different taper to finish the work. Likewise with the shower tile, carpet, and flooring subs. They all dragged their feet in getting to our project, possibly because ours was not a large one. After a couple weeks delay, I made my concerns known to Ryan that the project was now slowing to a crawl, and he promptly got a different flooring place to install the carpet and flooring, and Ryan himself did all the shower tile work (which I could tell was not something he wanted to do himself because it was a very labor-intensive job). But Ryan basically took full reign of the project's delays and did what had to be done to get the job finished. All-in-all, we various delays, some due to weather, slow subcontractor, and occasional material backlogs, Ryan got the job done only about 1 month late from when we really hoped. Compared to some contractor horror stories, I think that was pretty good. Most importantly, Ryan takes customer satisfaction to be his main priority. We had a couple glitches here and there, some of which required Ryan to re-do some things that had been done already in a way that we didn't care for, and he re-did them the way we wanted with absolutely no argument as long as it didn't violate any building codes. He is, by far, the easiest contractor that I have ever worked with, and I have worked with several in different houses. I had no workmanship quality problems, and he even corrected several issues that our original home builder had screwed up when they built our house 6 years ago. If I could have had Ryan build our house back then, I would definitely have done so. I higly recommend Ryan Stegora and RJ Stegora, Inc. for any general contractor/home remodeling project.
Description of Work: Built small 60 square foot addition to make staircase up from lookout basement to backyard, in effect creating a walkout where there wasn't one before. Removed an old unused fireplace and opened foundation wall to make the exit to the stairs. Also built a new tile shower to existing half-bath in basement, creating a 3/4 bath. Expanded main level mudroom and mudroom closet in process of building stairwell from basement to backyard. Note: The cost listed above doesn't include the actual carpet, vinyl flooring, and shower tile.

Ryan returned our call promptly and we set a date and time for him to come review the work we wanted done. His office called the day prior to confirm the date and time. Ryan was detained in morning traffic and called ahead to let us know he would be 10 to 15 minutes late. We were very impressed with Ryan throughout. He spent at least an hour and we reviewed all the things we wanted to do. He had some great ideas and seemed to really know what we wanted. While his bid was the lowest, we felt the actual proposal was lacking in details and the allowance for the doors we discussed was too low, which would lead to additional costs at the end. This is why we picked one of the other three contractors.
Description of Work: Ryan gave us an estimate to replace our double front doors with a single door with side lights, rework the front entry stairs and create an entry from the attached garage into the house through the hall closet. Ryan was one of three contractors we had give us a bid.

Where previous remodeling firms came in and saw problems, Ryan saw solutions. At our initial meeting, Ryan took the time (and had the expertise) to walk us through our options and explain the pros and cons of each. He provided us with a timely estimate and started and completed our job within the time frames specified. We're thrilled with the quality of work and all interactions with Ryan. As various existing issues were uncovered in our house, he was in contact with us and explained options for how to handle the issue at hand. When the initial plumbing was completed, we were not satisfied with the way some of the work was done by the subcontractor. We contacted Ryan late that evening to discuss the work. He returned our call immediately and had the plumbers on site within a day to fix the issues. We would absolutely hire him again (and we did to do replacement windows for the whole house) and highly recommend him.
Description of Work: They remodeled the kitchen/dining/living area. They did general demolition, removed walls (both structural and non), framed new walls and headers, framed 3 new windows, did drywall, electrical, and plumbing.

After Ryan completed a remodeling project for us, we decided to go ahead with replacing all the windows in our house. Ryan was very thorough in his estimate - he estimated a few different options for us in terms of brands and sizes. He did a great job using stock window sizes for existing window openings. Because of the size difference between stock and our window openings, there were a few places where he had to be creative with exterior trim work. He achieved a very nice uniform finished look. Work completed included supplying and hanging exterior trim and supplying interior trim.
Description of Work: Replaced 12 windows and 1 eight foot sliding patio door.
