Excellent.  We have a 1908 home in St. Paul.  We looked at vinyl replacement windows but decided Paul from Restoration Window Systems was right that our current 100 year-old windows lasted 100 years and would outlast any vinyl replacement windows.  On our 2nd floor, Paul replaced the ropes and pulley with rebuilt existing windows so that they can be tilted like any vinyl window.    Installer Mark did a great job and did an excellent job at cleaning up the job site after each day.
We definitely recommend Paul's firm for anyone with an older home with original windows that need repair.

Working with Paul and Restoration Window Systems was a great experience -- both the product (storm windows and the tilt-in package) and the service (installation of the storm windows and tilt-in sytstem as well as glass replacement, reglazing and weatherproofing) are excellent! Paul is great to work with. We highly recommend Restoration Window Systems, their products, and their service.

They were excellent. They were prompt, courteous, and not pushy. Their work was excellent and they had a good warranty on top of it. I would highly recommend this company.

Paul was at my house twice for about two hours each time before I even signed the contract. In these visits he explained what he did and showed me samples, he assessed my windows and made recommendations, and we decided on what we would do. Paul and his crew were wonderful to work with, very professional and polite. The majority of the work was done in one day, with additional times scheduled to finish extra coats of stain and shellac, and to install the hardware. These extra visits were done in the evenings and on weekends, and lasted only about an hour. Paul knows what he's doing and has a small staff that are knowledgeable, attentive to detail, and easy to work with. The house looks great!

I am happy with the final product but it was a long process. I finally had to call Paul and schedule a time for them to start since he was 1 month past when he said he would be able to fit us in. This is a very detailed process and I felt like we had to go over the details several times. In the end, the windows look 100% better than they did when we started. I am looking forward to seeing how much warmer they are this winter!

Knew they had a backlog of two months. Paul has a laid-back temperament and his partner, Eric, was wonderful to work with. Paul came in and explained what he wanted to do, basically stop air flowing from the window area to stop heat loss. The fixes were really nice, making the windows easy to take care of. Paul and Eric were able to switch out all the upstairs windows (7) in less than two days, were very clean and could work in awkward spaces. The dining room windows look wonderful now and they found old, original, gorgeous hardware to put on the window sashs. The staining process took three weeks for the windows, but they were very dark and the weather got wet and humid, making it slow. I called Paul every four days to just see and he told me the status. When completed, he patiently showed how to work the windows. Love the solid storm windows which open from top or bottom. Eric and Paul also showed me how and what materials to use to finish restoring my old wooden windows.

We met Paul at a small home improvement show and were impressed by his system. We had recently replaced some low-quality windows with modern replacement windows, and although we're happy with their performance, they are not attractive. We wanted to maintain our distinctive oak windows in the other rooms. Paul estimated the job quickly and gave a lot of insight and advice. He was a pleasure to work with. He told us it would be about a month before he could get to our project. We waited about 6 weeks and called and he scheduled the job. He and his assistance brought a mobile workshop trailer and set to work on the two-day job. Paul does the little stuff right. He started with the window that held our window A/C so we could get it running again right away. The job was done in two days and the windows work really well. They look nice, are weather tight, operate smoothly, and maintenance is a breeze since the windows can now be tilted in or popped out for cleaning/painting.

I'm a HUGE fan of Restoration Windows! Paul's work was outstanding and if you have old windows you should SERIOUSLY consider this option, rather than replacing your window sashes. Our restored windows look great, are much tighter and more energy-efficient, and they WORK! No more sticking, no more sticks holding up the windows. I'm confident that our beautiful vintage windows will last another 50 years or more. (House built in 1917). The storms are very high quality and the full screen allows greater air circulation in the summer. The house is quieter, more comfortable, the architectural detail has been preserved and at much less cost than replacement sashes. This solution is the best of both worlds--old windows, made new!

Paul loves windows! My 100-year old house had replacement sash windows installed at some point, but the spring-loaded tracks were in bad shape. As far as I know, Paul is the only person who will replace the tracks alone--a big savings when the windows themselves are still good. There were no surprise costs, he showed up on time, his crew cleaned up so that we never even knew they'd been there. Paul took care of a couple other items too--adding sheathing on a couple windows that didn't have storm window wraps, and replacing some glass. I also asked Paul to bid on replacing aluminum storm windows. The storms are a very old design and installing new storm windows would have left a lot of exposed, unattractive screw-holes. Paul suggested a couple approaches to modify the factory windows. I ultimately opted for another storm window installer, but I really appreciated Paul's time & interest in the problem.

PAUL KNOWS A HELLUVA LOT ABOUT WINDOWS. I DON'T LIKE VINYL, BUT THE WINDOWS LOOK AND WORK WELL, AT A FRACTION OF THE COST OF UGLY, NEW ''REPLACEMENT'' WINDOWS. THE HOUSE ALREADY FEELS MUCH TIGHTER AND LESS DRAFTY. HIS STAINING AND FINISHING WORK IS VERY HIGH QUALITY. PLUS HE'S A GOOD GUY. I'VE NO DOUBT THAT IF I TRIED TO DO THIS MYSELF, I'D HAVE DONE A WORSE JOB AND IT'D HAVE TAKEN THREE TIMES LONGER.

THE NEW STORM WINDOWS ARE GREAT! I LIKE BEING ABLE TO OPEN THEM FROM THE TOP OR THE BOTTOM- MUCH NICER FOR VENTILATION. I AM ALSO HOPING TO REALIZE SOME ENERGY SAVINGS THIS WINTER, SINCE THE WINDOWS ARE NOW SEALED MUCH BETTER THAN BEFORE. I AM PLANNING TO HAVE THIS COMPANY REPLACE MY REMAINING 11 STORM WINDOWS NEXT YEAR. PAUL SCHMIDT TYPICALLY ASKS FOR HALF DOWN AT THE TIME YOU REQUEST THE SERVICE, BUT WAITS TO CASH THE CHECK UNTIL CLOSER TO THE TIME OF INSTALLATION. THE WORK IS FINISHED PRETTY QUICKLY ONCE THEY'VE STARTED, BUT THERE CAN BE SEVERAL WEEKS' TIME BETWEEN THE DAY THE SERVICE IS REQUESTED AND THE DAY IT IS COMPLETED. THEY ARE PRETTY GOOD ABOUT GIVING ESTIMATES OF HOW LONG THAT WILL TAKE.

PAUL WAS AN HONEST AND TRUSTWORTHY CONTRACTOR. THE RETROFITED WINDOWS WORK AS DESCRIBED. WE DID OUR WHOLE HOUSE AND SO DID MY NEIGHBOR. A FEW OF THE WINDOWS BROKE DURING THE PROCESS, HE REPLACED WITH NEW GLASS. I WOULDN'T SAY THAT PAUL IS A FINE WOOD CRAFTSMAN, BUT HIS PACKAGE IS A NICE OPTION FOR TURN OF THE CENTURY HOMES. FURTHER, PAUL TURNED US ONTO SAFE-ENCASEMENT PAINT THAT WORKS AS A LEAD/ASBESTOS ABATEMENT SYSTEM.

PAUL IS A TRUE PRESERVATIONIST THE PROCESSES HE RECOMMENDED, THE PRODUCTS AND MATERIAL USED ARE WITH RESTORATION IN MIND. I APPRECIATE HIS ATTENTION TO DETAIL. I HAVE NOT MET ANOTHER PERSON WHO KNOWS MORE ABOUT WINDOWS. PAUL'S WORK IS VERY NEAT AND ESPECIALLY CLEAN. HIS IS COURTEOUS TO HIS CLIENTS AND RESPONSIVE. RESTORATION WORK CAN TAKE TIME. ANYONE WHO HAS LOVINGLY RESTORED THE HOME THEY LIVE IN, KNOWS THIS. ONE IS AT THE MERCY OF OTHERS SUCH AS THE FOLKS WHO CLEAN AND RESTORE HARDWARE, NOT TO MENTION FIGURING OUT HOW BEST TO DO THE RESTORATION WHEN YOU RUN UP AGAINST AN UNUSUAL SITUATION. I AM IN STAGE 2 WITH PAUL ON RESTORATION OF WINDOWS IN PUBLIC SPACES OF MY VINTAGE HOME. THE STORM WINDOWS INSTALLED ARE JUST AWESOME, EASY TO OPEN, CLEAN AND TIGHT. I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE ENERGY SAVING ESPECIALLY THIS COMING WINTER. PAUL SCHMIDT IS THE BEST!
