The night we moved into our new home (yes, our first night) was the night in June where the power went out for 20 hours while a heavy rain fell, which happened to also be a wet month to that point in time. Unfortunately, our sump pump overflowed, where my bailing did not save our finished basement.
Being new to the area, and basically in shock, our insurance agent called Puroclean and Stephen was quick to come over with his equipment. The first day the blowers were used to dry out the basement. After about 24 hours, it was determined that the professional dryers and dehumidifiers were not going to do it, and removal of carpet and drywall were needed. The first 10 ft of drywall removal, and our mitigation was halted. Mold was identified on the back of the sheetrock. After analysis by an independent air quality company, it was determined to be black mold, which would had to have taken quite a while to develop.
Stephen then created a negative air flow in the area, which made us feel better about living in the house with our 2 very young children. Further mitigation found framing along the block walls that were rotted through from previous water issues which had not been remediated. After cleaning, an additional air quality check found that the black mold had been mitigated.
What was an extremely frustrating situation for our family considering we had just moved into a new home in a new city was handled with extreme professionalism and empathy, especially knowing these are long standing issues that the sellers did not appropriately mitigate. He always kept us appraised of the situation from a timing and cost perspective. While I was very surprised at the end cost of the work, with the amount of issues we had I understand how those costs could add up.
Seeing more issues during our drain tile re-install and full basement demo, we may need to use Stephen again in the near future.
