The service station was supposed to diagnose and address the ?service engine? light that came-on on the dashboard of my ford escape (2003). Please note the car was fully operational with no sign of any trouble except for the light. Also please note that the car was fully serviced on the periodic basis at this same station for the last 5 -7 years. They diagnosed it to be faulty ignition coil. I asked them to repair it and do an oil change that was due. They called later and said that the car also needed vacuum tubes or pipes or something and that would be extra? I said great. Please make all the required repairs. Once the car was ready and I was ready to pick it up, the mechanic (Nick) said that there is an oil light that is coming on now. I said that the car never had that come on before. He said it is probably nothing and that I should just watch it. I picked up the car, brought it home and did not start it for a couple of days. When I started the car in my garage two days later a very loud noise started to come from under the hood and the engine light and oil light came on again. As I started driving the car it died in the middle of the road. I restarted it and I called the station, the mechanic (Nick) said it might just be a reset of the ignition coil. I said to him that I am taking it back to their shop. I drove it in and asked them to look over the work that they did to see if they did something incorrectly or incompletely which has caused the car to die and all the lights to come on. Two days later they called me and told me that it wasn?t anything they did but instead my car had total engine failure due to sludge build up and would require a complete engine replacement. I asked why was it not diagnosed with this and instead they diagnosed ignition coil or how was it missed on all the numerous service appointments. The did not answer and kept on telling me that the ignition coil needed replacement. They said the engine replacement would be around $6K. I said it would not be economical and requested that they release the car back to me. At which point they said that the car is not drivable at all because they tore down the engine. I asked that they release the car to me in the same condition that I brought it in. They refused saying it would take too long to put it together instead they put all the parts in the box and on the floor in the back seat. I requested a refund for the faulty repair but the manager refused. They offered to give me credit instead of the refund if I did the engine replacement with them. I asked to speak to the owner on three separate occasions but the manager at first stalled and at the end refused. I had to order a tow truck to get my car away from them.
