They build homes and they also do remodeling. It was projects throughout the house. Some things were good and some things were not good. It wasn't finished by the time we were supposed to move in. They had to redo the floors twice. The cabinets in my office look beautiful. I worked with a sub on that and the sub did a great job. I don't know who the sub was, I can't remember, but the painters were good in some places and in other places not as good. I had to go around and clean out the things for them so that they could fix it. The biggest things for me were the floors and they really messed up the floors. They didn't do it nice the first time and the guys that did them were very sloppy and they had to come back and take all the baseboards up and clean them all out and they had to do that while we were living here which was very disappointing. We were not happy with them. It was a big project. Overall I would never use them again and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody, but they did some things well. It was again the subs that were doing the work. I think they did not have control of their sub contractors. They don't do their own work. They have sub contractors come in and the general contractor or project manager would come by here once a day or every other day or something to check on them, but he wasn't really looking at the quality of the work as in depth as I was. He would come in and oh?the guys are here, they are working, but he wasn't really looking at the quality. He really should have been looking at the quality more. I was disappointed in their project management of the entire thing. I have a full time job so I couldn't be here everyday watching what the guys were doing, but some of the sub contractors like the cabinet guy, I told him what I wanted, they came in, they installed it and they look great. I'm very pleased with that. They guys that were doing the kitchen, they did a pretty good job on what they were doing in the kitchen. The painters again mostly did a pretty good job. There were a couple of spots where they had issues with the paint that they were using or whatever, but the floors ? that was just something that it should have been done by the time we moved in. It should have been done right at the first time. Had they been managing that sub contractor, we wouldn?t have had the problems that we had. I was just disappointed with their overall project management. They weren't themselves doing the work and I'm sure that they probably do good work at other places. I was very disappointed with how they managed my project. It's a very small company so there's not a lot of people that work for them so I would say that I am not the only person that feels this way. I think their work depends on the quality of the sub contractors that they are using and if the sub contractors are going to be meticulous and they are going to be interested in quality, then they are going to get good results and whoever uses them would get good results, but if the home owner is not managing the project or not paying attention to what's going on then they might end up with something sub standard. I had so many things done and in some areas the subs did a great job and in some areas they did a poor job. Overall, the people who did the flooring, they did the wood flooring and they also did the tile backsplash and they did a terrible job. They had to come back twice and I would give them a credit for when they came back and they redid it again and obviously didn't charge me for it, but it was an inconvenience that they had to sand the floors and we were living here and there was dust everywhere. We had to stay off the floors for two days. They didn't have a lot of people working for the company and I had the main owner and he was not responsive. I had to ask him twice for the quote. Once I got it and kind of agreed upon everything, I didn't talk to him after I signed the contract. He never followed up with me until the very end when they asked for final payment from me and I asked them to come over to the house because I wanted him to come in and see the quality of work that was done before I was going to pay and I wanted to talk to him about it and that was the second time or last time that I talked to him so for the whole project that was going on and he knew and he was aware of the problems that were happening and he did not want to call me or say, I heard you were having a hard time and I'm sorry about this? we will do everything to correct it... even just to call and just to say sorry, nothing? so I'm very disappointed with that, but the responsiveness of the project manager was okay. He did call me back always right away because he was managing a bunch of projects and I don't think that was his fault. He was in a bad situation where he was managing too many projects and they didn't hire him first. He was a good guy. He wasn't the fastest moving guy. I guess it was the combination of the two. I would definitely use the sub contractor that did the cabinets and they had a wood worker who came in who actually installed the cabinets. He worked for the sub contractor and he did some other things in the house too and he did a great job too. Some of the subs were really nice guys and their quality was really good as well.
Response from MICHAEL LEE REMODELING
"Yes Michael Lee worked with this client and had a very tough time making him happy but we tried. Michael Lee was asked to finish his hardwood flooring in a home he and his wife had just purchased. Very demanding person in which yes, I tried to avoid but he surely persued Michael Lee to do the work. I priced out refinishing his flooring but not restaining. Field staining any existing natural maple floor can be very difficult at best. I told him we don't do that but he convinced my super and the flooring people to do that. Even with water popping the floor, in order to raise the grain, the stain job still looked okay at best. Maple is a difficult wood to stain with any type of penetrating stains. Client, Member, would not listen and we tried, tried, and tried to make him first understand the problem and then come to a solution. After multiple times my flooring people worked and worked and this is the credit they get for all their efforts. My superintendent down the road had a breakdown and is no longer with the company. Michael Lee may certainly not be perfect but will do everything within our power to do the right thing...................The member can't say we didn't do the right thing! Thanks for at least listening to our side of a bad situation."
