"Lemke & Sons is sorry we did not meet your expectations. We believe in being honest and upfront from the very beginning. You are correct, we do not provide free insurance estimates. We require a down payment or retainer on insurance work. If hired to perform the work, 100% the money is credited to your account and deducted from your bill. Insurance work can be a lengthy and complicated process. We provide a full detailed and complete estimate. We take a professional and thorough approach to all insurance projects and always advocate on our customers behalf for a fair insurance settlement."
He came on time, checked the level of the floor with a laser, checked for other signs of structural problems and explained what he was doing and what he was look for. His evaluation resulted in no major structural problems and one minor problem at the courner of two wall. This was something I could fix myself.
David was very thorough and professional.
Steve was a pleasure to work with, as was Jean in the office and the two Mike's who did much of the work. We would definitely hire them for future jobs.
"We are sorry to hear about your experience. We do apologize if we did not do a good job of explaining our process. You are requesting a bid for a second story addition which does take a great deal of time. In order to provide a detailed estimate for your addition there are many aspects that need to be addressed such as structural details and energy calculations as required by the city building officials, selections and specifications from electrician, plumber, HVAC and any other necessary trades. As you stated you only have personally drawn plans and not construction documents to work from yet. Many professional companies do charge for their time for this process which is becoming the industry normal. It is not unrealistic to request a retainer before we commit that amount of time to your project. We do not accept credit cards at Lemke & Sons and have no way to process them. No one here requested a credit card from you."
He was supposed to build a senior shower. Also to to have the design for a walk in shower. He did nothing. We are suing Steve and his company. This is why I didn't renew my subscription in Angies list. He walked away with the money. Here is his record.
build a curb less show, and door less shower. I gave him a source for the plans, Houzz.com
Week of Nov. 10, 2014 no contact
Week of Nov. 17, 2014 no contact
Week of Nov. 24, 2014 no contact
week of Dec. 1, 2014 I gave Steve $3000 to help wiith a design fee
Week of Dec. 8, 2014 Steve and I had a meeting. He insisted we should have a shower with a door & Step
After 2 months, I cancelled the deal with Steve for lack of performance and inability to perform the work.
He promised to send my $3000 back lo g ago, and now I am suing him for the money in small claims court.

"Lemke & Sons has an outstanding reputation based on 48 years in the industry as you can see from our many positive reviews. We understand that members can post a review whether factual or not. In this case not much of the review is based on facts. This customer signed a Design contract and paid the required, non-refundable fee for the design process on November 24, 2014. We had a Contract with this homeowner for Design work only. After many phone conversations and emails, three meetings at the home, a meeting at the home with our Designer, Masonry contractor, Electrician and Plumber due to the fact that a fireplace/chimney would be removed, furnace relocated, ductwork, plumbing lines and electrical would be rerouted. The homeowner was presented with preliminary plans which included four possible layouts per their input and feasibility on December 19, 2014. December 26, 2014 we were contacted by the member’s son and told that the work had been done by others. To date no Building Permits have been issued for this address by the City of St. Paul. The son then threatened us with a bad review and court if we did not refund the fee. The member did take us to court and the Judge dismissed his claim. Coincidentally, we have learned of another contractor having had a similar experience designing another area of the house with this same homeowner. We find it highly unethical for this member to misrepresent his experience with us and try to get services from reputable businesses without having to pay for them by threatening bad reviews. It should be noted that this member also claimed to have not renewed his Angie’s List membership in his review. He did renew and is a current member."
We're still working with them.
I found Lemke & Sons on Angie's List and was impressed with the number of positive reviews. I contacted a few different contractors regarding the work and found Steve Lemke to be very professional, punctual, and honest with what they could and couldn't deliver. I was also impressed that the Steve and his installer arrived on time to walk through the basement, give ideas and options that I hadn't considered. Lemke & Sons do charge for the visit to bid a job, $150. Within a day or two I received a call regarding the bid. The other contractors were playing phone tag and not giving me the impression that they could handle the job or that they could get the same end results that were given to me by Steve and his installer. I agreed to the terms and made the trip to St. Paul to sign, leave a deposit, and get my name on their calendar. We were able to schedule a time, few weeks out, to have the work done.
Day 1 - Materials and installer arrived on time. The heating company, ? name, out of Inver Grove Heights was very friendly and valued my opinion and discussed any concerns and/or options with me and the installer.
Day 2 - Long day for the installer but he continued to give 110% and made sure that the craftsmanship and quality didn't suffer. Reasons for the long day, basement walls are never straight and working around myself and my dad as we were installing the lights.
The installer was very friendly, professional, and treated my house like his own and that shows in the workmanship.
Overall, very happy and pleased with the work. Definitely worth it!!
