+ -1 moreBeware of Unethical Conduct by Nicholas Eichinger and Lisa Van Ahn The owner, Nicholas Eichinger, demonstrated dishonest and unethical behavior in his business dealings. Here’s what happened: Nicholas owns a rental property next to mine. A large tree on his property became partially uprooted and began leaning heavily into my yard, its canopy pressing into the branches of several of my trees. Initially, I thought the tree might have been on my land, so I got a removal estimate. Upon closer inspection, I saw the tree was clearly on Nicholas’s property. I texted and called him, shared photos and the estimate, and explained the situation—hoping to resolve the issue amicably. Rather than taking responsibility and resolving the matter, Nicholas had a woman named Lisa Van Ahn contact me by text, claiming to work for him. However, Lisa appears to be his friend or girlfriend and is a fitness coach with no apparent qualifications in property management or law. Lisa insisted I was responsible for removing the leaning tree, despite the fact that it is clearly growing on Nicholas’s property. I responded with a screenshot citing local city code showing that if a hazardous tree encroaches from one property onto another, the tree owner is responsible for addressing the hazard. I'm open to being corrected if I am wrong, so I asked her to provide any sources or links to back her/their position. She responded with a copy and pasted a block of text into our text chat but refused to share the source. I conducted a reverse google search of the text she sent and discovered that the text was taken from a Rhode Island website—completely irrelevant to our jurisdiction here in Minnesota. Furthermore, the subsection of the text she copied and pasted was incomplete and intentionally misleading. Obviously the reason she declined to share her source is because she knew she was sharing incomplete, illegitimate, and misleading information. When I asked her to identify herself, provide her last name, and explain her role in this matter, she declined. I ultimately identified her by searching her phone number. This was not simply a miscommunication—it was a clear, coordinated effort by Nick and Lisa to mislead and pressure me into taking on a responsibility and expense that was not mine. Lisa's evasiveness, refusal to provide sources, and her misleading information indicate intentional deception, not confusion. To be clear: Minnesota law requires property owners to maintain their trees and remove those that pose a hazard to others. Nicholas attempted to avoid this legal and ethical responsibility by having someone else misrepresent the facts on his behalf. I approached this situation in good faith and with neighborly intent and mindset. But I was met with dishonesty and manipulation. It is very disappointing to see this level of bad faith from both Nicholas and Lisa. Whether you're considering Lisa Van Ahn as a fitness coach or life coach, or Nicholas Eichinger for any type of landscaping or business, please think twice. I would not trust either of them to be honest or decent. I sincerely hope that Lisa Van Ahn finds some self respect within herself and stops telling lies on behalf of Nick Eichinger. Her online advertising indicates her coaching/workshops/ retreats are focused on "self confidence", but it seems she is lacking in the basic self confidence to act with honesty and integrity and to say "no" to lying on behalf of scummy men.

Nick was great to work with and I plan to use his company in the future. Also, when he came out to give me an estimate he helped me with a totally unrelated issue (grill)- it was pretty much the coolest thing ever :)

+ 3 moreNick and his company were hired to finish the last step of a 4 year landscape redesign for a condominium building in Ramsey Hill, St. Paul. ( I found Lawn by the Yard through Angie's List and the board of directors evaluated about a dozen Angie's List reviews for local landscape companies.) Nick and his staff were responsive to questions by e-mail or phone calls from our management company, and very good in responding to concerns raised by the board of directors. Our management company, the board of directors (of which I am a member) and our homeowners (30) were impressed by Nick's work. Though much of the design was by a board member, Nick and his crew had an icky job of removing many unsightly weeds and shrubs, not to mention the disposal of a ton (maybe two) of landscaping stones that were 26 years old. (No kidding folks, I learned there seems to be nothing too large or too complicated for the workers at Lawn by the Yard). Board members especially liked Nick's honest manner -- no time was wasted and his bid was extremely reasonable given the three companies interviewed. The cedar mulch that was designated to replace the stones was on backorder, and Nick kept all parties informed of arrival and installation. I was especially nervous with the splitting of many large hostas, but Nick was very reassuring and the plants have done well in their new home. The board was so impressed with the work that we've hired Lawn by the Yard for monthly maintenance of fertilizing and weed control to the property. Nick (and your staff) -- well done, and thank you. It was a pleasure to work with you, and the condo association looks forward to a long relationship with the services of Lawn by the Yard.
Description of Work: Update an outdated landscaping design for a condominium property which included removal of small landscaping stones from large beds, trimming/removing years of overgrown bushes,replanting overgrown hostas, lawn treatment, adding new mulch to all beds/landscaping, and giving honest, straight-forward advice with our questions.

He actually saved me a boatload of money cause he talked me out of removing many trees and gave the clean slate of a yard I wanted. I plan on hiring him again in the future for ideas, tips, and other services. The guys that came out did a great job, were polite and even though we had weather they didn't mess around in completing the job as quickly as possible. Highly recommend!!!!

+ 1 moreOur yard had a larger hill with some railroad ties creating planter boxes. Originally we were going to have them removed but then I decided to take them out and put them in a pile at the back of the yard. Paul and the guy he brought along were able to remove a section of our new fence, get a large piece of equipment in and remove the remaining timbers. They then graded the entire yard and mulched up all sorts of old material and made everything level and then they laid the sod down. The sod was fresh and green and looked great the second they laid it down! From the beginning, Paul mentioned that our project was a small one and could be completed easily in one day. After having seen what our yard was capable of growing after the heavy spring rains we had, I was skeptical.Turns out 5 hours was all they needed! It rained most of the morning which made everything very muddy and sloppy. They made sure to stay after the job was done to clean everything. Our driveway looked great when they were finished cleaning up. Even the neighbors were impressed with how clean they were! We can't say enough about the work they did. It made us love our house that much more knowing that we have a lush green yard for our pets and future children to enjoy. We've had several neighbors stop by and comment on the work they did and they are all impressed that they were able to turn what the yard was into what it is now. In addition, since I removed some of the timbers and was able to pull the rest out and place them in a pile, Paul gave me a great discount on labor. I would use this company again for any landscaping work in the future!

+ 0 moreWe are VERY pleased with the landscaping that Nick and and his crew from Lawn by the Yard did. It looks beautiful! He and the crew completed all tasks that were covered in our proposal. We felt that his cost was very reasonable for the tasks completed. This was a labor-intensive job to do! Nick was quick to contact us and came out within a day or two to look over the job and propose a bid. As soon as underground lines were marked, his team was immediately at our home. After each day of work, his crew cleaned up after themselves. The project was completed in a timely fashion. We are so pleased to have him as our go-to person for landscaping projects! We give Nick and Lawn by the Yard our highest recommendation!
Description of Work: Lawn by the Yard re-graded and landscaped the area underneath our deck. This called for removing all existing river rock and old fabric barrier, then filling in with dirt, compacting the dirt, adding a plastic water barrier, and then covering with river rock. They also added river rock around the plants and foundation at the front of our house.

He was very fair about the prices for the services I requested. I did not end up going with his company because my family and I decided to do the work ourselves, however I would not hesitate to give him a call for any future projects. Thank you Nick!
