About us

The word "Honest" is part of our name for a reason. We train our managers and owners to do everything possible to kill the old stereotypes associated with mechanics and car shops. At Honest-1, 66% of our customers are female, and we recognize that. We endeavor to ensure no customer leaves the lobby until she is given an explanation of all charges (complete with diagrams, computer models, and technician advice with a smile). Customer service and customer experience is our top priority! All our centers across the country maintain an upscale lobby with features like leather easy chairs and couches, sparkling tile floors, complimentary soft drinks and bottled water, gourmet coffee stations, large flat-screen televisions, secure children's play areas, pristine restrooms, and exceptionally clean work areas. We have taken years of auto-shop experience and coupled it with an unparalleled attention to detail and a keen ear. We listen to you, and we hope to continue to cater to your needs as we grow.

Apparently, the right rear brake caliper got hung up and started scraping the rotor. Towed car in. Original call from mechanic (James) said they would replace the caliper, along with both rear brake pads (both were worn low), AND both rotors. $700!! I balked big time at the price and questioned why rotors needed replacing... particularly the left one. And why couldn't they be resurfaced? He said they don't do that... and that he hasn't heard of anyone doing that for years (not true... it can be done, and I've had it done). He pulled the "let me see what I can do" trick (which has happened to me before at this shop), and eventually my price was down to $514 (For the same work! Why didn't they quote that the first time?). I told him reluctantly to go ahead. (I knew I had time to investigate, as they had to get a part.) Immediately I called my car-knowledgeable son-in-law. He confirmed my suspicions that it seemed as though they were upselling me and overcharging me. While on the phone, James called back. Apparently, the caliper had just gotten stuck. It was now in "good working order" and did not need to be replaced after all. Then he said, "I went out into the shop and put my own eyes on your rotors, and they're actually not scraped up at all, and they do not need replacing after all. Really all you need is brake pads for $207!" Seriously? The job is now a $200 job, when 15 minutes ago it was a $700 job? Because they basically took another look?? Called my son-in-law back to discuss price. He said it's high for rear brake pads, but OK as long as they would be flushing the line and bleeding it out, and installing ceramic pads. James confirmed yes to all, so I authorized the brake pad replacement. Even though I confirmed with James that the price quoted was for ceramic pads, when I got home and reviewed the receipt (my fault...should have looked carefully when I picked up the car), I saw that they installed semi-metallic pads, which are less expensive. I thought about taking the car back in to get the ceramic pads I was promised, but frankly, I didn't even trust them enough anymore to want them working on my car. This is not the first time they've tried this with me, where they have padded the estimate with a bunch of unnecessary work, along with extra "unexplainable" expenses. I argued the first time they did it, too, and got the same "let me see what I can do" routine, that led to a lower price for the same work. I've lost all trust in this shop. I won't return there again. By the way, they sent an automated email thanking me for my business and requesting a review of their services. I sent this same review in, but of course, you'll never see it on their site. Look their at reviews, and you'll see a bunch of short 5-Star reviews (one 4-Star). Don't believe it!

I had the low-beam headlight on my 2011 Subaru Outback passenger side go out.  This has happened with this vehicle 8 times now.  I called Honest-1 to get an estimate to have both headlights replaced, explaining that it isn't the easiest vehicle to replace headlights in.  I arrived at 4:40, they said it was going to cost me $102.00!!  I had to drive somewhere that night, it was already dark and I really had no choice.  I told them that was more than the dealer charges and they didn't say anything.  They drove m7y car into the repair bay and said that the license plate light was out and they could replace that for $13.85, and the rear window wiper was old, and they would replace that for $38.00.  I can buy 3 or 4 rear window wipers for that price and do it myself.  So, I left my car, went to the restaurant across the driveway and in 30 minutes they called and said my car was ready.  The manager or whoever was watching the new guy do the invoice, ran off the minute he gave me the estimate and went home, so there was no one there to talk to about it and the guy who did the estimate couldn't do anything.
I paid the bill and left.  Yesterday, I was looking at the bill and I noticed that the labor to replace the lights was $90.00, then they added $10.?? for disposal of hazardous material and $3.?? for shop materials.  I brought both bulbs in to these guys, and asked to keep my good drivers bulb, which I replaced and all they "disposed" of was the single little headlight bulb and never actually used any shop materials.
While my vehicle's headlights are difficult to replace if you don't have a rack to put your vehicle up,  (You have to access the headlights through the wheel wells) it cost me $40 more than taking it to the dealer and I also provided the headlight bulbs, whereas the dealer includes that price.
They did send me an email service review request, which I filled out and honestly thought they would follow up with me and explain why it cost $13.00+ to dispose of a headlight bulb, I'm talking the little sized bulb that fits in the palm of your hand with room to spare....and have not received a follow up call or email or anything.
I wouldn't go there again, nor would I recommend them to anyone.  I am not one to flame someone for no good reason, but I feel these guys grossly overcharged me.  I keep all car receipts, and wish that Angies list had a way to upload the receipt so I could show the folly of the exhorbitant disposal fee for the headlamp bulb!!

They were really good. It is a place that you can trust. He tells you if you know the facts like this needs to be done and this doesn't need to be done. This is a place where I can send my daughter and I don't think being young I'm not going to worry that wreck her over the calls and try to sell her something they don't need and they always a fantastic business.

I have used Honest 1 auto in Eagan 3 times since September. Spending over $1500. Communication was good. Repairs were done as reported. Competitive pricing but they do have coupons which helps. Explanations were great and even advised not doing expensive repairs on older car. Kudos to them!

Everything was done quickly and they handed me a written statement of work that should be done soon to properly keep my car running well, they were thorough explaining everything to me and why I should have the work done in the future to keep my car from having major problems. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and courteous and I would recommend them. Also very reasonable for price. I enjoy going there, the waiting room has free candy, coffee, a big TV and comfy chairs. I never have a long wait and no problem getting an appointment quickly if needed. Excellent service in all areas.

Very good, they were very prompt and professional and did a very nice job. They performed the service we asked them to do. Also let us know of some future work that may need to be done but were not pushy about them performing the service. We also feel that the suggested additional work was very accurate.

Honest-1 fixed my car fast and got me back on the road. A very typical to above-average service center with nothing to complain about.

This was the worst car repair experience I've ever had. I took my car on Monday at 5 pm. It was supposed to be done on Wednesday. At 5 pm on Wednesday when I got there I was told that they had fixed the head gasket but when they put everything back together and quot;something wasn't quite right.and quot; But they didn't know what the and quot;somethingand quot; was. So they kept it another day. On Thursday when I picked it up, it was obvious immediately that something still wasn't right although they insisted everything was fine. When the car was sitting idling, it vibrated. The entire car just shook. It had never run like that before. So I told them the problem and an appointment was made to take it back on Saturday morning. I took it in. By early afternoon I hadn't heard from them so I called. I was told that they couldn't figure out what the and quot;misfireand quot; problem was. They insisted on saying there was a and quot;misfireand quot; problem when that wasn't it at all. It was a timing problem, but they just dismissed me. They told me they'd get me a rental car but then discovered that the rental place wasn't open on Saturday afternoons (surprise, surprise). So they gave me their and quot;shopand quot; car. It was the dirtiest, smelliest thing I've ever been in. On Monday they finally claimed my car was and quot;fixed.and quot; Well, I got in it and it immediately started shaking. I went straight back in and told the mechanic to come with me and I told him to sit in the car and start it. He did and immediately agreed with me about the shaking. Had they never sat in my car all this time? At this point they were still claiming there was some and quot;misfire.and quot; I again told them they should be looking for a timing problem such as the timing belt not lined up correctly. They said they'd try again. On Tuesday they finally said they'd figured it out and that the timing belt had been a tooth off. My car is now fixed and running okay. But having my car over a week and not being able to figure out the problem was inexcusable. They are all very nice people at Honest 1, but they are very lackadaisical and not very good mechanics. They truly didn't seem too concerned about fixing my car in a timely manner. For $2200, they should have been working overtime to figure out what they had done to my car. I was truly appalled and extremely upset over their lack of knowledge and their lack of communication with me. I always had to call them to see what was going on. They did not make an effort to call me.
I strongly urge no one to ever take their vehicle here for repair.

They are close to me. They give an accurate estimate before the work. I found out that their work is all satisfactory and competent. My complain about them is they give a list of recommended service. They don't put a pressure on you. What I discovered is they simply looked up into the computer what is recommended by the manufacturer based on my mileage. It's not necessary that my car needed the work so you have to be aware of that. Other than that I have no complains about them in fact I'll go back to them if I need more service. Their price is reasonable. The mechanics are all certified, I guess it's the ASP. They don't use anybody else. I already recommended them to a couple of friends.

A friendly phone call and a quick appointment--a very pleasant waiting area with coffe and treats--and this service was also done with a $10.00 off coupon. We will continue to take both of our cars here for their professionalism, service and quality of work.

It went pretty good. When I picked up the car, I found that one of the three problems was not fixed so I had to call them back to tell them that it was not fixed. I had to take it back and they fixed it. The facility was kind of clean and nice.
