They do not inspect anything they just use a chimney sweep you can buy at home depot to run the brush up and that is it. They said I was not there even though I was sitting right behind him working from home for most of the "inspection". They never removed the damper to run the brush (which they said they don't remove anyway). It isn't rocket science boys, just lift it up and turn there are no screws it is a removable damper. A damper that I personally saw was attached and working before the inspection service (since you know smart renters who like to keep their deposits, inspect things before taking over, including but not limited to the fireplace). Am I to believe that an 1/8in thick steel damper that the tabs are bent (I can't even bend the metal tab back with my hand) and is dangling off the pipe from the chain is from normal wear. I don't even care who broke the thing, it is like a 10 dollar part. Don't treat me like a criminal and a liar for saying it wasn't like that before and then also don't say I wasn't there for the inspection, when he had trouble getting the brush out of the chimney. I was sitting 5 ft away watching him hop on the struggle bus to get the brush out. Also that "inspection" is only them "running the brush up the pipe". I am also supposed to believe that the smoke that flooded the place, stained the fireplace, set off the fire alarms, and carbon monoxide alarm off, after we were given the a-ok to light a fire is normal. Maybe they should read what their website says they do to clean fireplaces and ensure safety. Complete crock. Don't know where this "Special Air Gun with 250 PSI "was unless it was the owner blowing smoke. I feel bad for the employee who was here cleaning. Likely getting paid poorly with poor cut the corners training to give the owner more profit. I mean most home owners wouldn't know how to clean or inspect a fireplace so how would they know they were getting ripped off. The staff came back to inspect the damper and fireplace were rude. They showed up a little before 9am and were complete arses to me and on the offensive. Said they were going to leave in 5 mins if he didn't show up (You showed up 5 mins early, not me, and I am not in control of my landlords). I will say the one who originally did the cleaning was nicer of the two. The other was a piece of work, short and combative. Don't treat me like the bad guy because your boss gave a 2 hour window for us to wait with my landlord at my place. Would you like to sit around waiting with your landlord for two hours from 9am-11am? Mine lives a little ways away and they couldn't wait so they left while he was driving. I will put the latter on my landlord for not showing up at 9 on the dot, we could have had tea and crumpets while waiting. But they had my number they could have called me too. I would not recommend this company. Maybe if they learned how to discern the tenant from the landlord. A tenant only has the interest in getting to use the fireplace and not burn the place down or to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. Get off your high horse and learn some customer service. I am not the one paying you but I sure had to clean up after you when you left. Hopefully this helps someone know how they operate if they break something or potentially break something.

If I could give them a 0 I would. My association uses them and my dryer stopped drying. I had service plus out and they said it was the air flow. So I called this place. They came out, zero covid protocols btw, and never even checked the outside vent airflow. What they did was look in my dryer vacuum it out and say it’s great. I do another load and still not drying. I call them back and explain and say no one even looked outside. They schedule an appt for a sat 11-1. 1 comes around and not a person comes or calls. I call them at ten after and the office manager says they left u multiple messages that ur dryer is fine and they aren’t coming. WHAT!?!?! I have not one message! And how do they know it’s fine? It’s not. So I wasted a sat morning waiting around for them and yes I’m fired up. That is bs. She’s like how many towels are u drying!! Excuse me!!! I’m not an idiot. I have tried a million things to fix this. She hangs up on me. I call back. I want a supervisor owner someone. She is rude, condescending. I’ve had enough. I will have to just find a place to help me and in the meantime I am letting anyone and everyone know of this awful, dishonest company. I have let my association know and others are noticing the same dryer issues. I find that a bit fishy. They just supposedly cleaned all of our dryer vents, or not I guess. Frauds!

I booked the Elite Rotary Brush vent cleaning option (highest tier) along with chimney sweeping services. My husband and I just moved into this house and did not know the last time the vents were cleaned, hence our choice to purchase the Elite cleaning option. Mike and Reese were very nice and explained the process thoroughly. I pointed out a few areas of concern including the actual furnace vent, which was extremely dirty and what originally prompted us to make the appointment. They left most of the vent covers off, and actually left a nice screwdriver here. Debris was left on the floor in front of a few vents as well. If they would have cleaned up and put the covers back on, maybe we wouldn't have noticed the terrible cleaning job. To our suprise the vents were still filthy and filled with piles of dog hair from the previous homeowners. They made a mess around the furnace and didn't bother to clean up any lint/debris that was actually removed. On a positive note, the fireplaces are cleaned and look great. I just hope they are safe to use. I feel the service was unprofessional and certainly not worth the $430 we paid, as it looks like nothing was done. As a new homeowner this is pretty frustrating. EDIT: They came back and asked which areas were of concern, I had them re-clean all vents as I was very skeptical of any of them being clean after seeing the few dirty ones (some you cannot see into without sticking your arm down and taking a photo). Happy they at least came back out and re-did the job. After leaving the second time I unscrewed a couple of the vents to check and they looked clean, however found a dead mouse in one of them. How is this possible after being "cleaned" TWICE? Next time we will be going with a different company or cleaning them ourselves.

Very nice experience through and through. Scheduled an appointment within a week of calling (other providers were 3+ weeks out). Techs were very courteous, thorough, thought they did a good job, and notice a marked improvement in air quality. I'd certainly call these guys back out for the next cleaning.

A neighbor recommended HomePlace to me when I was complaining of allergies in my home. When Matt showed up, he looked professional, wearing HomePlace logoed shirt and his van was clean. He took time to look around my house and told me I should have my air ducts, furnace and dryer vent cleaned. When he was ready to leave, he went over everything that he did and made sure I was happy. I was amazed that there was no mess left behind. My house feels soo much cleaner since he was here. I would definitely recommend HomePlace to anyone who is looking for furnace and duct work!

The owner's response is is not truthful.  They did not disclose all fees in advance even after speaking with them multiple times to set the appointment. We were unaware of the costs and did not agree to them.  The only rate that was discussed was the over-time rate. They never said they start charging from the previous job and continue charging after they leave. They also charge a $50 truck fee which was also not mentioned before hand.  When I called back to inquire, Mike, the owner said they start charging upon arrival at the site - he later changed his answer to justify the charges. They are not being honest and upfront about their fees and have no desire to remedy the situation once a customer calls back to discuss a negative experience.  Mike's claim that I only wanted to pay a portion is inaccurate and out of context.  I do not want any money back from this company.  It is clear that they are unethical.  He tried to bribe me by saying he would only offer a refund if I removed a negative review.  There are many negative reviews from other customers that feel the fees were not properly discussed in advanced or feel over-charged after a service was done. After checking with a state agency, it appears that Homeplace Mechanical is not properly bonded nor has a plumbing license on file.  Be ware of doing business with this company; they are not ethical. They claim to have taken 2 hours to "assess" the situation with our furnace costing $455. I was there and know the tech padded the time.  Following that, we had another company come to the house.  The tech took 30 minutes and requested a flat service fee of $95.  He later did not charge us the initial fee because we did the repair with him.  It was after my experience with the second company that I knew we had been taken advantage of.  Homeplace Mechanical does not do good business.

The main reason for hiring Homeplace was to get my 30ft. dryer vent cleaned. The person cleaning the vent was blowing air into the vent in the middle of the ceiling in the laundry room. After a short time he was done. I asked him if he was going to pull out the dryer and clean the vent behind the dryer. He said No, it was fine. He also told me the bottom of the dryer was dirty and they could clean it for an additional $70.00. I told him it didn't look that dirty, but he assured me it was. I didn't feel comfortable with the way they cleaned the vent so my son came over the next day and pulled out the dryer. The picture shows the dryer vent is still full of lint. Mike(the owner of Homeplace) said they only missed a small area. I hired Parkview Building Services to remove deck boards and take pictures of the dryer vent at the side of the house. The process Homeplace used didn't clean this area either. Mike said they do this procedure blindly and would repeat it. I felt this would be a waste of my time and asked for a refund.   The same person cleaned the furnace(charged $59.95) and he told me the furnace chimney was dirty and that he could clean it for an additional $70.00. I called a furnace company the next day and was told that a gas furnace chimney rarely needs cleaned unless it gets birds or squirrels in it.   I have emailed all these pictures to Mike and he refuses to accept that they do a lousy job. The whole process took about one hour. I will not recommend or use Homeplace again. I don't feel confident with any of the work that was done.
Response from HOMEPLACE FURNACE DUCT & FIREPLACE CLEANING
"It was brought to our attention that the homeowner found a couple areas that were missed on the dryer vent line. We have a service guarantee and offered 4 times to come out and review the vent line and make it right. It was further explained that the vent line at her location was a very rare and non-typical vent line that is known to be difficult. The Homeowner would not accept our willingness to return and wanted all of her money back for all of the 5 separate services, but we felt this was an inappropriate request. It was agreed that we would refund her $70.00 for the dryer vent line several weeks ago, and we have yet to hear from her. The furnace chimney was filled with debris that would cause high carbon monoxide issues with the furnace if allowed to continue to build. We are either contracted or referred by Minnegasco and many other contractors to clean chimneys, because we have the experience and equipment that they do not have. This was explained to the homeowner several times over the past few weeks"

I thought it would take longer.  They were here for about a half an hour.  There was a lot of dust on the floor after they were done which I had to clean up the next day.  They were pleasant but not as professional as I would like ie they were joking around quite a bit with each other.  Also they talked us into having the furnace and water heater chimneys cleaned also for more money and we had it done.  I would have liked to have had the contact person I scheduled with to give me that information when I asked what they do etc.

Overall the service was very well done.  The whole process took less than 1 hour from start to finish.  They came and started cleaning the ducts right away.  While one was cleaning, the other recommended that we both get our water heater tuned up and also our dryer vent cleaned.  We elected to also get our water heater tuned up.
While everything was done very well and professionally, the prices we paid for the time it took to do the work seemed very inappropriate.  As stated above, the whole process took less than 1 hour and we paid over $200.  The water heater clean up cost us $60 and it probably took him 3 minutes to do it.
Would I use them again?  Maybe.  They did do a good job.  Very professional, courteous and friendly.  I just felt the price was a little too much for the amount of actual work they did.

The agreed upon $210 seemed reasonable. I have a home office and the technicians called an hour early to see if they could come. That seemed OK, although I still had some work to complete. The techs were very nice but toward the end, one called me to the basement and said that my furnace, water heater and outside vents really needed cleaning, too. I thought he said that would be $69 extra and I agreed. When they were done, it turned out that cleaning the furnace, water heater and the 3 feet to the outside wall was actually $170 more! Almost as much as doing the whole house. I should have challenged the price right then but I was still working and I just wrote them a check. After, it just didn't make sense that the whole house was only $40 more than the few feet in the basement. I also noticed that my furnace company had cleaned my furnace (sticker) in 2011. I called Mike at Homeplace and after a lengthy argument, he said he'd see what he could do. In the meantime, I noticed 2 or 3 vents that the technicians had missed altogether. A second pair of techs stopped by a few days later, and I showed them the ducts. They agreed that they had been missed. I have no problem with the original $210 price but adding on those extra costs (which I consider to be excessive) in the middle of the job didn't seem right. About a week later, I received a refund check from Homeplace for $70, the amount I mentioned that I first understood the extra furnace cost to be.Mike also offered to send a new set of techs out to finish the job.  At that point, I just wanted no more hassle. I am a small businessperson myself and understand working with customers.  For the $338 that I paid, the job should have been perfect. I also wish the scheduler would have mentioned these extra costs and services when I scheduled the service.  Lesson learned:  never do add-ons when you haven't thought it through!  And don't write checks when you're rushed!  I do want to say that the technicians were very nice.
Response from HOMEPLACE FURNACE DUCT & FIREPLACE CLEANING
"I am quite bewildered by the report that the member has written, as it is remarkably inaccurate. We were pleased to service her home, but did find her to be a unique individual, so perhaps that has some bearing on the report. Approximately 2 days after the service, the member called and said that she was not happy with the job. I inquired as to why, and she said that the techs missed all 3 vents in her living room. I told her that I would contact the service crew and get back to her. The cleaning crew in question, has a combined experience record of 24 years, so I was not surprised, that they could still recall each and every vent in the member's home. So I asked that they call and assure her that the vents were serviced, and give her a detailed description of the 3 vents location. And if we could not assure her, that we would happily return and service them again. I received another call from the member shortly after the service techs had spoken to her. She was very angry and said she knew that we missed the vents. She said that they could not have serviced them, as the furniture was in the same place. I tried to assure her that all of our service crews take great care to return all furniture to its original position. She was still adamant that we had missed the registers, so I cheerfully offered to have a crew return and service them at no charge. I even offered to have a different service crew come out and service the 3 vents in question. I am still not sure why the offer to return to her home agitated her so, but it did. She said she was not going to have anyone return to her home, and began to say some very unpleasant things. Once she was finished, she said she did not wish to talk about it any longer and said goodbye. Two days later, she called and said that what was really bothering her, was that she spent more than she wanted to spend for the service. She said that she knew the work needed to be done, but did not like the bill. I asked her how I could help her, and she said she wanted $70.00 back. At this point, all I wanted to do was make her happy and put the matter to rest, so I told her I would have the accounting office return $70.00. She called back two days later, screaming that she had not gotten the $70.00 yet, and threatened to call the BBB, write bad reviews and call the attorney general. Once her rant was over, I told her that the check should arrive the following day, as it was indeed sent out. She laughed, said that she would look for it in the mail the next day and hung up. That was the last we had heard from her until receiving her negative report. I know in my heart that we offered every possible solution and did all we could to please the member, and are not deserving of such a poor report."

They were very good! They were here right when they said they would be. They gave us a quote over the phone. We have been in our house for 20 years and never had our ducts cleaned. They made recommendations and told us which cleaning would be best. The man was very professional, he wasn't trying to sell us services, he was just giving us his best suggestion based on his experience. We did opt for some of it, but not all of it. We used a coupon through them. We won't have to hire them again now, but I would recommend them.

One technician spent his time checking out all appliances trying to 'upsell' more services. In the process, he opened the water heater panel to check for dirt and showed us saying that could be cleaned for $$$. He put the plate back on but the next morning we found he blew out the pilot light in the process.
Response from HOMEPLACE FURNACE DUCT & FIREPLACE CLEANING
"It is company policy to give a free general inspection to all HVAC related gas fired appliances. And if we see something that needs to be brought to the homeowners attention, that is our professional responsibility to do so. Should the homeowner wish to hire another service provider, that is certainly their preogative, but we still do a thorough exam, as per state and contractor insurance guidelines. We quoted and gave them the price of $99.95...which was the same price we gave them 6 years earlier, since they were repeat business. So there was no price increase for the air duct cleaning. They paid exactly what they were quoted to have the air ducts cleaned, and declined the additional suggested service of the hot water heater. The error on the hot water heater not being in service after we left, was indeed our responsibility. Upon showing the homeowner the large amount of scale and debris that was fouling the burner, some unknowingly fell on top of the burner when the cover door was replaced. We recieved a call the next day about teh water heater being out, and we promplty returned that day to correct the issue. So end result was a job done well overall. The customer was given a better rate than others, because they were repeat business. An oversite with faulty equipment was rectified immediately. A grade of "D" is certainly not warranted."

I had them come out because I was having problems with a drier that was clogged with lint. They showed my how it was clogged and not working properly. They cleaned out the vents and it didn't really feel much different than before. I looked at the vent myself and there was a lot of lint left inside. I have a guy coming back out that is gonna take a look at it.

"WE RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE MEMBER THAT HER DRYER WAS STILL TAKING A WHILE TO DRY THE CLOTHES AND ASKED WHAT WE COULD DO. WE TOLD HER OF OUR SERVICE GUARANTEE AND SET UP A TIME TO COME OUT AND VIEW THE VENT LINE AGAIN. THE LEAD TECHNICIAN ARRIVED AND TOOK CARE OF THE PROBLEM WITHIN ABOUT AN HOURS TIME AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. HE EXPLAINED TO HER THAT HER 40 FOOT DRYER VENT HAS MANY BENDS AND TURNS, AND SINCE THE LINT INSIDE WAS WET, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO REMOVE. OVERALL, IT WAS A MINOR ERROR THAT WAS CORRECTED IN ACCORDANCE TO OUR SATISFACTION POLICY. WE DON'T PROFESS TO BE PERFECT, BUT WE SURE TRY... Very professional and informative. Seems like they did a very good job (it's hard to tell since you can't really look inside all your ducts to see). We requested having them put a critter cap on our chimney but they couldn't do it because the top of our chimney is higher than they could go. Disappointed about that, we wanted everything done in one stop (so we don't have to pay another company a trip charge to do it). But overall a very good experience.
