Alan ended up leaving me in the middle of the job. He got stressed because he had too many jobs going. Got angry when I asked him to finish job soon because of impending weather, and he seems to have taken on too many other jobs at the same time. Simply stopped showing up and even left a few tools at my house. Has ghosted me - no communication despite calls and texts from me. Puts me in an incredibly bad situation because I need this done before the snow flies, or all my porch furniture is ruined. It's late October as I write this review. I have $1000 of plexiglass in my garage and no one to put it in. Really weird and unfortunate because Alan did great work for me for a year - lots of projects. We got along really well, I thought. The whole incident has really made me so sad, and angry. No idea what happened, what made him flip. Feel I've lost both a friend and a handyman. Would have rated him an "F" for this last job because he simply abandoned it, but did great work before so put it at a D. Super sad over the whole thing.

Alan was out of town so he sent me to his long-time helper, Lonnie. I had a plumbing problem in remodeled portion of a 1928 home. It was an extremely unusual  clog situation in an upstairs shower. Another provider had suggested that a hole would need to be cut in the floor to access pipes but Lonnie thought there might be a better way. It worked beautifully and I saved a considerable amount of money. Alan and Lonnie will get my business again.

I was out-of-town when a leak caused extensive water damage in my apt.  I called Alan and he went there immediately.  He spent 14 hours on one particular day working on my apt. so it would be ready when I returned.  I can't say enough good things about this very good man.

It went very well.  He came right on time.  He worked quickly and knew how to do the work.  He did a great job and was very reasonable in price.

Our house was built in 1961 and we are certain that the kitchen has not been changed other than paint or wallpaper since 1961.
The measurements for the woodwork were uncommon by today's standards.  The standard offerings at Lowe's, Menard's and Home Depot would not fit in our kitchen.  Another oddity that Alan was dealing with was that the entry doors to the kitchen were both pocket doors rather than a standard hinged doors in a frame.
From past experience, Alan knew of a mill work shop in Fridley that would take care of any specific sizing requests.  It also had a significant variety of wood types that Alan could use to test the absorbency of the stains he was trying to match.
Alan was also familiar with the paint and stain professionals in my area of the city so he was able to bring different types of wood to the stain dealers along with color samples from our home to find the best match for us.
Alan's carpentry skills are very good. He was very quiet when doing the tear out. He did all the wood sawing outside or in my garage, depending on the weather. So, the only noise was the nail gun. When it came time to paint, I couldn't believe that he wasn't going to do any taping.  His skill at cutting in at the ceiling and wall was impressive. I only found one tiny defect in the entire kitchen and the was due to a speck of wall paper not getting scraped off.
We have used Dad's Homework previously and we were happy with the results, so we were glad he was available for us when our Sears cabinets were finally installed.
Alan is meticulous in his work ethic and he takes pride in his completed efforts. I would not hesitate to recommend Dad's Homework for any handyman project might have.

Leaks occurred while I was in another state.  He made sure that at least the flooring was in before I arrived so I would be able to move around and sleep in the apartment.   He worked 14 hours a day to do this.  He worked with me in the selection of the paint and did an excellent job.

Alan is honest and hardworking. I don't think there is any work he can't do. He fixed my neighbor's refrigerator. He put together an Ikea sofa without the benefit of instructions. He is also very intelligent.

Everything went exceptionally well. Al, from Dad's Homework had other jobs going on at the same time. The day he came out to bid, I told him that we had a deadline of 07/25/2013 and if he couldn't complete the job by that date then we would be looking for someone else or waiting until after 07/29/2013.   Al said he would be able to finish the job well before the deadline, but he might need to work for only a couple hours on one day or another.

His price was well below the next bid so he was hired. We met at Menard's one morning and I purchased the doors and hardware I wanted. Al took it from there and completed the job with 4 days to spare.

This was a very small project, but there was no doubt that Al possesses the tools and knowledge of a skilled craftsman. I will definitely call on Dad's Homework again.

Excellent workmanship by a very talented handyman. The wife kept finding things for Alan to check out and Alan was able to fix them all. Very happy with every facet of the work performed. Highly recommended.

He forgot to turn one faucet back on (easily fixed b us), but otherwise did a good job.  Was available at the last minute to help out with things that we ran out of time to do.

I called three handymen on Angie's list. Only one responded and he wanted $30 an hour plus travel time. I looked again and found Alan, a.k.a. Dad's Homework. I can't say enough good things about him. I don't think there is anything he can't do. He is very consciencious. Also, he is very pleasant and kind as well as intelligent. I would definitely recommend him.

Alan does the work himself. He gets along well w/ animals so have no problem leaving my dog loose in the house while he's there. He is honest & trustworthy & can have him do his job while I'm away at work. His prices are reasonable, as a single income homeowner this is a must!
