Wes Cutter is a gem. He is one of very few people in the Twin Cities with the knowledge and skills to clean/fix really old time pieces. His fees are reasonable, and you can trust him to do whatever he promises. I brought him my gr-grandfather's gold key-wound pocket watch (about 150 years old). He was a joy to work with--utterly cheerful--and took the time to explain the watch's intricacies to both me and my son. While we were in his shop we saw one of his current projects--crafting a really tiny watch part under a microscope--using raw materials. Amazing! He can handle even the most delicate repairs. I can't say enough good things about Wes!

I had a very old 1906 Elgin wind up watch missing the watch stem. With his book and computer resources, Mr. Cutter was able to tell me when it was manufactured by Elgin, how many were made and that it was smaller than a normal pocket watch because it was the transitional timepiece for moving toward the first wrist watch size. Although this piece is sentimental and non-functioning, I was able to ask numerous questions to evaluate whether I watned to put the money into it to make it fully functioning. He has numerous certifications and experience, a great workship that can take you back in time on construction, style, and function of grand old clocks. His quote on the bottom of his written estimate says it all and quot;Watch out for the little things. The little kindnesses and courtesies are the big things.and quot;
If you want cheap; buy disposable, and pitch it when it does not work. If you want quliaty workmanship in a day and age of dispoable, if you want an honest and direct estimate, in a time when big stores take repair work in and ship it out to the real experts (Cutter) to complete the work once, and not several times. This is your guy, he is a craftman that comes from another age.

The job was done well.

He works out of his home so I dropped the rings off and explained what I wanted. When I picked them up, I found that one was sized but needed to be made yet smaller and that they were still separate rings. I guess I didn't explain well enough that I wanted them connected to make one ring. He kept them and called when they were ready. When I picked them up the second time, they were connected with gold solder at the bottom and connected at the top by laser. The are absolutely gorgeous! He didn't have the laser equipment so he gave them to someone else to do that bit and he soldered the bottom himself. I am more than pleased.

Wes Cutter is a perfectionist who has a passion for the art and function of antiques and collectible's. He was trained at a technical school for his craft and has yrs. of experience. Service was prompt, congenial, and honest. I understand he also repairs quality watches.
