'they were smart, and they knew who to call. they also don't make their money from marking up work. This can be invaluable. The other side of this is they charge separately from the project and they bill by the hour. probably awesome for very large projects, but for small ones like mine it gets pricey fast, especially if things change.
It also means you know either the total cost of the project or how much will get done, but not necessarily both. a least that's how it worked out for me. YMMV The work that got done was excellent though. and I was never cheated.
We were very happy with all aspects of this remodel. Ben Yanz and Megan Lueneberg of Building Arts were very helpful and accessible whenever we needed their assistance. We were not able to replace the extensive tile flooring at this time, and matching tile is no longer available. Ben and Megan found a subcontractor who was able to skillfully remove existing tile and re-use it to patch newly-exposed areas due to cabinet footprint changes. They used tiles that nearly matched in areas that didn't "show.
The biggest positive change came almost immediately after the cabinets were pulled and we went from a peninsula to an island. The flow of movement around the kitchen is so much better! Thank you, Megan, for that suggestion! We also love the new lighting, which includes ceiling cans, pendants for accent over the island, and LED strip lighting on the top and underside of the upper cabinets and over the new desk. The lighting is also dimmable, which is very nice.
The cabinets feature lazy susans and pull-out drawers on the bottom which affords ease of access.
The schedule was adhered to fairly well, other than some delay with the granite slab transport to the fabricator but once that occurred, the fabricator did a great job getting things moving again.
All "punch list" items were quickly taken care of; what a wonderful experience!
We would definitely use Building Arts again for any work on our home.
There was not one part of this remodel that did not exceed my expectations. The quality of the workmanship and materials was exceptional. The entire staff of Building Arts are a joy to work with as well as all the subcontractors. The workers were on the job as scheduled, on time and they cleaned up before leaving each day.
Margaret Griffin our project designer helped us through the myriad of decisions that had to be made and opened our eyes to many possibilities we would have never considered.
I highly recommend Building Arts!
