The plumber showed up at the rental unit with NO IDEA of the work to be done. Hardly an encouraging start. Charged us for the time waiting while he figured out what to do. Ick. The renters emailed us privately asking us to choose someone else next time. When I asked why, he (the renter) just said he didn't have confidence in the work. Nuff said.
Then the bill came that same day. We thought we would have 2 weeks to pay, and Shannon repeatedly and aggressively fought with my husband over email because of her promises. Of course we will pay, and I also promise we would never use these folks again.
"I would like to clarify a few things mentioned in the above review. We are a C.O.D company which means that payment is due upon completion of the job. There was not a discussion of paying two weeks later after the job was done. We were contacted by [member name removed] and she explained what items she wanted us to take care of and also sent a copy of the inspection report with the items highlighted. We were unable to take care of the laundry sink because the leak was coming from the cracked sink which is concrete. I never promised a payment plan (which was not discussed with the owner) nor a deal on multiple jobs (this was not discussed). I discussed our rates clearly with [member name removed] and the owner and the owner gave me a credit card to secure the job. When sending him an invoice the same day, I was told I was not allowed to charge the credit card that he provided to me when scheduling the job and that he would pay in two weeks. Our policy is payment due upon completion and the customer was well informed of this information."
"This complaint was resolved during an onsite meeting between you the owner, the general contractor and Bruce Nelson Plumbing and Heating (us). The existing underground waste piping in the building was the problem, not our workmanship or product. The new above ground plumbing we were contracted out to perform was properly installed to code, inspected and approved by the City Plumbing Inspector."
Mark explained everything he was going to do before he started working. He was friendly and took time to explain the work and how things worked on the boiler.
He replaced a zone valve, the pressure gauge, a thermocouple, and a drain valve that started leaking as he worked on it. He also did a full bleed/refill on the lines, vacuumed the dust out of and around the boiler, and cleaned out the burner elements.
After the work was done, he showed me all the parts that were replaced, and walked me through the repairs and adjustments he made in detail.
I was expecting a larger amount on the invoice because of a recent quote from a competitor, so I was pleasantly surprised. Great job by this company and I'd definitely call them for future service.
The Bruce Nelson technician was prompt and polite. But after examining our softener, he said he thought we should just replace the unit and quote purchase and installation of another brand of softener provided by Bruce Nelson Plumbing. We wanted another opinion because we did not think our current softener should have to be replaced yet. I had a Commers technician come out and look at it. He (a) quickly noted a salt bridge, (b) the unit was not stuck on a cycle but was set to 1900 gallons capacity (he reset it to 700 gallons). The Commers technician expressed some surprise that the Bruce Nelson technician was unable to fix the softener. Furthermore, the Commers unit does not have (c) a brine float or (d) a timer. It recharges based on water volume rather than time. This made it seem to me that the Bruce Nelson technician was not completely honest with me about what he knew of the Commers softener and was looking to make a quick sale whether that was what I really needed, or not. Based on this, I called Bruce Nelson Plumbing explaining all this and asking for my money to be refunded. They replied by letter dated 6/4/12, refusing to refund the money I paid. I wrote a letter in response 7/1/12 to Bruce Nelson Plumbing asking again for my money back with a detailed explanation of why I did not think their technician did not provide the services I requested because evidently he did not know about the Commers softener and how it works.
