Branch and Bough Tree Service and Landscape Care were pretty good. We had some problems with the weather which they worked around, the last day it was pretty bad, it was always raining and everything else but they finished it up because they were just about done. They did a good job and had good clean-up. They came in when and took the tree down when they said they would. They had to wait for the weather to get better because the ground was still frozen. They didn;t do any damage to the surrounding area.
Description of Work: They took a large tree down in my backyard.

The project went extremely well in spite of some extremely inclement weather. The tree removal was accomplished in one day, and the stump grinding in an afternoon. Everything was done as planned with the exception of stump grinding that was delayed because of the late frost-out. We are very pleased with the service.
Description of Work: B&B took down a tree in our front yard, disposed of the debris, ground the stump, removed the residue, and filled the depression with top soil.

We needed some overgrown shrubs trimmed back and a tree trimmed of dead wood and to let some light through. They did the shrubs right away and waited until late fall to do the tree. This was to not damage any of the plantings under the tree. They did great work and cleaned up everything.

These guys were terrific. One of the best Angie's list experiences ever - and I've been using Angie's list for years. Not only did they work around my dates and needs and budget, they also dealt well with a ornery neighbor who was demanding and difficult - who also had dates and needs (even though they were not paying for the service! My tree cover stretches over into the neighbor's yard.) The completion of the project was delayed several times because of my neighbor, but Andy and his team were patient and very helpful throughout. Tree expertise plus great professionalism and good prices -- HIGHLY recommend!!
Description of Work: Very large trees in back yard trimmed, moved away from power lines, lower branches thinned to bring light into backyard, etc. Worked extensively on about 7 large trees.

I wish that all businesses worked the way Andy's company does. He was professional and courteous. He was 20% lower in his cost estimate than 2 other tree services I had found on Angie's List without using a coupon. Any time I would call, he would call me that evening to follow up. He and his crew are great. My husband used to be in the tree service so he's more critical than others. Even he couldn't believe what a great job they did and what great work ethic they showed. They did an excellent job of being careful in their work and cleaning up afterward. I will definitely use them again when we have more work to be done. I can't express enough how great their service was and how I would recommend them to anyone looking for tree services.

I thought they did excellent work on the tree removal and deadwood pruning on the spruce trees. I wasn't so happy about the quality on the trimming of bushes. I got home and had to finish off the job on several of them that still had long branches sticking out like a bad haircut. I thought Andrew provided great suggestions and was very detailed in his estimates back to me. My biggest was probably not knowing what to expect which led to disappointments in punctuality and responsiveness. - A few of the email exchanges had 3-6 days where I'd be waiting for a response. I guess it's also probably my fault that I should have communicated over the phone if I wanted better response times, but it would be nice to know if there is a method of communication that is preferred. - They weren't able to finish off the work on their first visit. Informed they would be coming July 26th for the follow up. Never showed up, and was never informed when they should show up next. They showed up 5 days later and finished the job. Not a huge deal, but I felt like I was playing second fiddle to larger jobs and being squeezed in when they had time. In fact, if that was true I would have had no problem with that as long as I had a certain expectation of how it would go down.
Description of Work: We had a birch tree growing too close to our house that needed to be cut down, spruce trees that needed deadwood pruning, ideas for future landscaping, bushes that required trimming around the house.

Response from Branch and Bough Tree Service and Landscape Care
I provided a quote for the Member on May 14, 2012. We exchanged several emails over a two week period, in which he informed me that there was other work that he was having done at his home that he was handling first. I then did not hear back from him until June 13. In that email, he talked about the work he was interested in going ahead on. I returned the email on June 16, stating that my first available date for work was July 26 (also mentioning in that email that some of the work he wanted performed needed to wait until fall due to plant health issues and proper pruning time). On June 21 Mr. Steven’s responded to my email asking that the July 26th date be reserved and also to put him on the schedule for work in the late fall. I sent an email reminder the morning of Thursday, July 26 confirming that we would be out later in the day. We began the work that afternoon, but it did take longer than I anticipated and my crew let the Steven’s know we would be out as soon as possible to complete the work. We returned on the afternoon of Wednesday, August 1 and finished. I did not hear anything from Mr. Steven’s, positively or negatively, until I sent an email on September 24th to see if he wanted me to schedule the fall tree work we had discussed. At that time he responded letting me know he was unhappy about lack of communication and how some of the shrub work was not done well. I did mention to him immediately in a follow up email that same night that he could have let me know right away that some of the work was not done to his satisfaction and we would have come out to fix it. I also said that he could take some money off his bill to compensate for the fact that he was not satisfied. I did not hear back from him until this Angie’s list posting. In regard to Mr. Steven’s statement that emails took 3-6 days between time, this was the flow from both ends of our communication pattern, and not just on my end. We did try to set up several meeting times, twice I expected Mr. Steven’s to be present at home when we set up appointments and he was not. In fact, I never met Mr. Steven’s in person throughout the process of doing business with him. I am always open to ways to improve my small business. I know I cannot be everything to everyone, but I try my best to be conscientious and follow through. As an owner operator that is doing the sales, on-site work, and managing a small crew, it is important for me to receive timely feedback so that I can make any corrections necessary. I never want to leave a client less than satisfied, but in this case I obviously have and for that I am sorry.

Andy and his crew were outstanding. Andy came out to give us an estimate which was thorough and accurate. Andy came out with his crew to do the work. They completed the trimming work by climbing the trees rather than using a lift (and destroying the yard) or tree spikes. And, when we at the last minute, asked if some of the wood could be left with us to use for firewood, Andy said sure, and simply asked where we wanted it stacked. The crew then proceeded to cut the wood into fireplace-sized segments so all we have left to do is split the wood. When Branch and Bough was done, the yard was clean and free of debris. Even more importantly, the trimmed silver maples look better than ever. Andy and the rest of the staff at Branch and Bough are great. We will definitely call them for all future tree and landscape needs.
Description of Work: We had a very old Crabapple tree and a Norway Maple tree removed with stumps ground out. We also had two very, very large Silver Maple trees (estimated 75 years old) trimmed.

I have used Andrew and team for the three years I have lived here every summer. The basswood is a fast growing/short lived/ very messy/deep shade producing tree that is perfectly formed but keeps throwing branches up against the little bungalow. It is really big and provides amazing shade but takes a great deal of attention. Branch and bough have helped make the tree tolerable. This year they trimmed the branches that are too close to the house and the low hanging branches AFTER I had the impatiens and hosta garden all set for the summer (directly underneath the tree). There was not one flower out of place and no twigs left on the garden or the lawn when I got home. I will update this post after they get the overgrown elm out. That's going to be interesting because of all the overhead wires and such in the back yard. I bet it goes without a hitch!

Was pleased to get a quick response from Andy, who is extremely knowledgable and pleasant to work with. He gave us a very good quote, came on the arranged date, and worked quickly and efficiently. Everything looked great when he was finished, and we couldn't even tell there had been a tree in the place where he had removed one.

Price for services was very reasonable, cleanup was excellent, and we are very pleased. We have a very large tree on the property that has been dropping branches on our neighbor's yard, and a second smaller tree we wanted removed. Andy came out, took the time to answer questions, carefully explained the options, and gave a very reasonable estimate. On the day the work was done, Andy personally supervised. The tree trimming on the big tree looks great, and it hasn't dropped any branches yet (even during a severe thunderstorms we had last night). The debris removal and clean up of the work site was excellent and thorough. They even took away some extra brush from the neighbor's yard at no extra charge. They raked away all the wood chips left after stump grinding and leveled the area with top soil, which we had not expected. We would definitely hire them again!

Andy was excellent from start to finish. Met me promptly for the estimate and took his time to examine the tree and explain what work should be contemplated. All told he took nearly half an hour providing me with an explanation of the proposed work, answering my questions and giving general tree-care advice. It was apparent that he really understands his business and cares about tree care. I got an estimate from another company for the same work, and although it was slightly less than Branch & Bough's bid, I chose B&B because I was so comfortable that Andy and his crew would do a great job, which they did. Cannot recommend them highly enough.

Overall this was a great experience. Andy is very knowledgeable and quickly gained our trust. He talked us through several options for trimming our tree safely, and helped us decide which type of trim was the best choice for us and our budgets. He was booked pretty far out so we had to wait longer than we wanted for the work to get done, but he was right on time: the work started exactly when he thought it would, and lasted exactly as long as he had said it would. His crew was fantastic -- very professional and polite, and they cleaned up all the branches and twigs that were felled. The only thing that would have made this experience better would have been a quick reminder (an email or phone call) that the work was going to happen as scheduled -- we weren't sure it would (it often doesn't with contractors), so we were actually wondering if we should call Andy when -- lo and behold -- his guys drove up. Perfect timing. And the communication "miss" was a minor glitch. Now, next time Andy indicates when the work is going to happen, we'll know that his word is good! And there will be a next time: we've found our arborist for life.
Description of Work: Ginormous black walnut in teensy backyard was trimmed. Branches were overhanging two of our neighbors' houses, one of their garages, and several power/phone lines. All roof- and power-lines were cleared and tree was "cleaned up." We were given guidance for hanging swings for the kids, and even some suggestions for some landscaping projects we have in mind.

Everything was as professional and careful as one could ever expect. Complete cleanup. Thorough work. Invoice was as anticipated from the written estimate. Price was favorable. Just be prepared to select a work date at least a few weeks out - evidently word has gotten out about this company and they have quite a following! This is GOOD!!! One of my trees scheduled for removal actually blew down two weeks ahead of the work. They came out after normal hours and removed it that same week and then returned on Nov 8 (as scheduled) to do the balance of the work.

They came out and assessed the tree. We wanted to keep it if possible, but it was dropping large branches and had grown up amongst three sets of power lines. They said we had two options: 1) we could remove around half of the branches that were impacted by a large fault in the trunk and probably would need to remove the whole tree in the future, or 2) we could remove the tree. We chose to remove the whole tree. They worked with the power company to turn the power off for several hours. We informed our neighbors that were affected. Branch and Bough came on time and removed the tree, which was very complicated with all of the power lines. They then removed the stumps. They cleaned up remarkably well. They will be coming out in the next couple of months to trim back our large oak tree. They were extremely thoughtful, did an excellent job, and we would highly recommend them to others.

We had contacted three other companies but decided to go with Branch and Bough because their owner, Andy, provided the most comprehensive plan for managing our backyard woods. We have many elms dying of Dutch Elm disease. When the city tagged three trees in May 2010, we contacted Andy and received a competitive estimate. Additionally, he does not drive heavy equipment into the yard unlike two other companies we contacted. He is busy and it took about a week for us to get an estimate. However, he spent an hour (or more) answering our many questions about maintaining the health of our trees. This is a small and busy company so it did take 3-4 weeks to get on their schedule. The tree cutting process went well and nothing in the yard was damaged. They took care to avoid the garden and swing set when downing branches.
Description of Work: We had four diseased elms cut down that required a climber. A few other smaller dead trees were also removed. Andy and his crew hauled away the wood.

They were great and their price was very reasonable. They were very skilled at what they did and were very careful. They did use any huge machine. They climbed up the tree and thy used ropes and pulleys. They carefully brought each branch down so that it wouldn?t damage the branch or the other tree. It was just an incredibly expert job and they knew what they were doing. Their clean up was very good.

They set up a time close to Thanksgiving since I told them I wanted to use the top of the tree as a Christmas tree. They left the top of the tree exactly the size I asked and cleaned up around the stump as much as possible. I was very well satisfied, and the price couldn't be beaten. Other companies I contacted had a minimum which was much more than Branch and Bough charged me.
Description of Work: I had Branch and Bough take down a pine tree in my back yard. The person I spoke with suggested using the top of the tree as our Christmas tree this year and left that part of the tree in the yard. He said he will come back in the spring and remove the stump and take care of any other branches that are left.

I had three estimates on the tree removal. Branch and Bough Tree Service is an independent, locally owned company which I liked. I had seen their ad in the neighborhood Co-Op newsletter. Andy, the owner, came out for the estimate. He explained that he is an environmentalist and doesn't like to see trees go but thought in this case it was warranted. Branch and Bough is the only one of the three estimates that uses climbers as opposed to the "cherry picker" truck. I personally do not like the monstrous cherry pickers and the noise and pollution that seem to accompany their use. Andy explained the path their workers would take, where he would park the truck and chipper to minimize any harm to the existing plants and flowers. I really appreciated his plan which included my whole yard and not just the tree. I accepted the estimate with en e-mail and didn't have to sign any contract. We had a lot of rain in the ensuing month so the date of removal was pushed back quite a bit. My only complaint was the lack of communication about the movable date and I would like to have been informed if 3-4 weeks needed to turn into 7-8 weeks. I got a phone call the day before they were coming. I would like to have had a little more notice. Andy and his two workers arrived right on time in the morning. We discussed again the plan and verified which tree it was. The little red squirrels vacated. Andy himself did the climbing and his two workers did the catching and hauling. He roped down the limbs to protect the house and landscaping. The day was oppressively humid but the three of them continued working and had the tree down by early afternoon. The stump was left for another day. I was amazed at how much tree there actually was once it was all down. He left a clean cut across the stump just above ground level. Gradually, the tree was chipped and the chippings and the larger trunk sections hauled off to a proper processing facility. Andy, Liam and Nick picked up twigs, raked the surrounding yard, swept sidewalks...the clean up was excellent. About six weeks later, Liam returned and ground out the stump and surface roots, filled the hole with black dirt, and again cleaned up meticulously. I paid the first invoice for just the tree removal and paid the second when the stump was gone. I really feel that Branch and Bough Tree Services is an environmentally friendly company and that Andy and his workers are very conscientious and knowledgable in what they do. I would definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Removal of medium sized green ash tree in front yard. Tree had been trimmed but continued to struggle with dead branches. Also was very near the sewer line which had been excavated and repaired a few years ago. Crowding with other trees and lilacs seemed a problem although one estimator pointed out that in the woods, trees just know how to co-exist and grow very close to each other. Possible coming invasion of Emerald Ash Borer was also a concern...could not afford to treat the tree annually. The squirrels loved this tree, I loved this tree and it was a difficult decision to have it removed. Andy and his workers treated my tree with respect.

Andy was great in answering questions and making suggestions for trees that were the appropriate in size, native to the region, diverse for what is already on the lot, and in making suggestions about future landscaping. We decided to have a small damaged maple removed. (Andy told us it would soon grow to be too large for the space it was in, plus it was already damaged and would likely have problems as it grew.) When we called to schedule the work, Andy noted that he would let us know when the nursery had quality, new stock--which he did several weeks later. The original day the work was to be done was too rainy. Andy called to reschedule. On the rescheduled day of the work, he and his crew showed up on time. They went right to work. They removed the maple, including all the roots, and ground the stump. They added sod where the maple had been. They also filled in a hole where a large tree had been removed by another contractor a year ago and added new sod. They then planted two balled and burlapped 1.75" trees: an Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry and a Pink Spires Crab Apple. They cut a circle from the sod around each tree and added mulch. They created a similar mulched area around an existing maple. Andy was knowledgeable, patient with questions, and good at offering long-term advice with an understandable and educational rationale. His crew was hard-working, careful with the stock, and cleaned up and removed all waste from the site. They also pruned dead branches from a Nannyberry. The work took about three quarters of a day. When it was done, Andy called so that we could walk through the lot and inspect the results, which were most satisfactory. He offered verbal directions on care of the trees and included these same instructions in writing with the invoice he sent.
Description of Work: Andy came in October '09 and consulted on the trees in our yard, making recommendation about a replacement tree (for one that had been removed in '08), a tree that looked diseased, and a damaged tree. He offered an estimate. The work was scheduled in May and completed in June, when good stock was available.

Great! Andy is very informative, easy to follow, logical, educated, and has a wonderful eye for making trees look natural, yet healthy in their form. I've had these trees worked on a number of times in the 11years we've been here, and Branch and Bough did by far the best work! Andy was very clear that the younger healthy oak in our yard is the primary tree to ensure health, and recommended we take a few of the larger limbs from the Maple to allow for adequate room and light for the oak. The leaning aspen was bad enough that I thought we'd have to take it down, but they just did some trimming and strung it to the neighboring tree, after ensuring that it wouldn't affect the more upright tree, and it looks great, and hopefully will be saved in the long run. I am very happy with his service and his crew. Will definitely have him out again.
Description of Work: They trimmed/pruned our very large silver maple, a very thick Sugar maple, trimmed and guyed one of our leaning aspen, and trimmed a few others that were over grown and getting a bit close to wires, etc. They also checked the roots for collaring, and treated any trouble there, which was minimal. Prior to the scheduled work, Andy came out and assessed the yard, gave a lot of recommendations, and generally gave a very good education to me about trees and their habits and care. Gave me options for replacing a tree I don't like very much. He really heard my desires for privacy from the trees, no chemicals, etc.
