I've had a terrible experience with Fred's Plumbing/Heating/Air Conditioning. We called them to our house on 5/27/216 after our air conditioning went out. The technician showed up and 15 minutes later told me the capacitor was out since my fan was still running but no cool air was coming through the house. He grabbed a new capacitor and came back later in the day and installed it. I paid him in full at the time of the visit.
The next day our air went out again and I called Fred’s and the technician came back and told me the Freon level was low. He filled up the Freon and left. He said we should be good to go and I paid in full. I was very confused on why the Freon wasn’t checked the previous day, but was happy the situation was fixed.
At 1:30 AM on 6/19/2016 (23 days later) the air conditioning went out again. This was on Father’s Day and we were going to have all of the Grandpas over for a celebration, but had to cancel because it was 90+ out and didn’t want anyone to become ill. I called Fred’s at 7:30 AM on Monday and someone by the name of A*** answered the phone. I explained what is going on and he told me that he will have the service technician call me after 10:00 AM CST because I was on a conference call until then (I work from home). The service technician showed up at 9:15 and started knocking on my door. I was upset because I was on the phone and I had my pajamas and robe on. If he would have called me at 10:00 AM like I had informed A*** I could have been appropriately dress AND would have been off of my business call. The technician looked at the AC unit and told either we had a Freon leak or someone was stealing our Freon. He said he would be back that afternoon to place dye in the furnace so we could fins the leak. After he came back he also told me that I owed their company money for the previous 2 visits (which I paid in full). I reminded him that I did pay in full and he said they have a new billing girl and she must have messed up.
On 6/23/2016 the technician stopped by our house to check on Freon and he said everything looked good and the problem is fixed. He asked me to call him if the air went out again.
On 6/24/2016 (next day) the air went out again. I called A*** at 5:00 PM and he said that they could not make it to our house that evening because all of their technicians are booked. He said they could make it out on Monday though. We have small children (4 and 2) and there is no way it would be healthy for them to spend the weekend in 90+ heat and humidity all weekend, especially after we’ve had Fred’s to our house 4+ times and they had fixed nothing. At this point I told A*** I would be reaching out to one of him competitors so solve the problem. He then back tracked and said he asking me if Monday was okay and they could probably make it work this weekend. I decided to move forward with one of their competitors who came to our house that evening and discovered the issue was not a Freon leak and fixed the problem within 30 minutes. A*** told me that they focus on fixing the issues as cost effective as possible, but I paid a large sum of money to this company to fix something that wasn’t even the issue.
I feel like this company either sent me an incompetent technician or they were purposely charging me for unnecessary visits. Their customer service was terrible, A*** was very condescending, and every time I tried to voice my concerns to someone else at the business I was told “It’s an honest mistake”. How many mistakes can a company make and still call it honest?
