My experience initially with John, one of the owners was pleasant as he helped me pick out the right safe that would satisfy my requirements (narrow staircase in an old house.) He was very friendly and went into detail as to how they were a referral based business and that they were around through positive reviews and word of mouth. Considering the lack of customer service I knew I would receive at either the Gander Mountain or Cabelas nearby, this was exactly what I was looking for -- a small business owner who cared about their services and products.
The safe was to be delivered a week or two later, in the early afternoon. At 7pm, the crew showed to move the safe into the house. I took the afternoon off... Not a huge deal, just an inconvenience. I had to call Safe and Knife at 5pm to ask if it was still going to be delivered that day.
The real issue I had with this transaction is that when I opened the safe for the first time, there was damage to the interior. Dents and damage to the inside panels and ceiling. There was enough damage where I was not satisfied paying full price, $1300 for this safe. I promptly called John, at Safe and Knife. I patiently wait for a return phone call, having left a message on that Saturday for John to call me back to discuss the damage. On Wednesday, I called him again and got him in person and explained the situation. He told me to send a few photos over to his cell phone and he'd take a look and then decide on the best course of action. I did so that day, Wednesday. On Thursday, I called him to confirm he received the photos, but had to leave a message. I called him again, this past Monday. He told me his cell phone wasn't working and that it was now up to me, to call the Champion Safe distributor to have them deal with the situation. Even though he sold me the safe, he was passing the buck.
There were two other issues -- He promised a dehumidifier for the safe as part of the sale but it did not come with one. He also sold me a $80 LED light kit that he showed me in one of his large display safes. One was included, but it was thrown in a zip lock bag and not installed. It looks to be a much cheaper version of what he sold me initially.
I'm extremely disappointed with the transaction -- This was exactly why I looked for a small, local, company for this transaction in the first place, in hopes of a positive customer experience but I'll never use them again, nor will I refer anyone. Luckily for me, the Regional representative of the safe company, who is not affiliated with Safe and Knife, is trying to help me get the damage repaired. That said, this doesn't change the situation with Safe and Knife.
