They deserve compliments for patience and thorough professionalism through the process of getting paid. There was a several month delay from the time our insurance company issued the checks to the point that we had them processed and endorsed by our bank (as needs to be done for an insurance claim.) Or bank's insurance department was horrid and we appreciate the support from Larson while we worked through that.
The windows are holding up good and they are very good. If we have an issue, or think we have an issue, they are right there. They are guaranteed forever, I guess, I don't know. I don't know how it is going to work out, but so far they have been really good. Their workmanship is quality.
We have had Larson do two other jobs in the past: 1) Replacement of all of our windows and 2) Replacement of gutters. In both cases, we have been satisfied with their work.
My only complaint was, the time it took. Happen to work out where part of the crew was on vacation or out side. So did not start the day that was arranged, but I think made up for it with the professionalism and clean up when the job had been completed.
They were prompt in scheduling the initial visit and providing an estimate. The quality of the windows and front door seems very high.
Wwhen I placed the order, I was told that they were running 6-8 weeks out, but that I'd be contacted. I explained that I'd need a week's notice to take off work to be there.
It slipped my mind until I realized that it had been 9 weeks with no call. When I called them, the response was "oh yes, we were just about to call you." My only disappointment was that my expectation was that I'd have received a call after 8 weeks, if only to tell me they were still running behind.
It's been a little over a month since the installation and I can tell a difference in the temperature of the bedrooms--much warmer than before.
I asked Larson to replace my old windows with new ones. They did so; they came on the coldest day of the year to perform work. I had them install the brand of window they recommended. That spring I had a leak in the lower window on the east side of the house. They came out right away to fix it. Leaks re-appeared again that fall; again they came right out to fix it. I noticed they only occured when the wind was coming from the east or southeast. There was more leaking the following spring, Larson was slower to respond this time. Still, they came out and fixed things again. When it was still leaking in the fall, I became frustrated and called a recommend contractor to assess the problem. He found that there was rot around windows and told me that both the windows and the framing had to be replaced. I contacted Larson; they said they would take out the windows and reseat them. The contractor said that the frame/window interface must be matched and that was impossible to do with the existing windows. To get a neutral opinion, I called in two home inspectors to give me their opinions. Both agreed with contractor, in addition they found > 1 inch gaps in between some of the windows and the house, and concluded that the workmanship poor. I phoned Larson armed with the facts. The manager and salesman, but not the work foreman, (he apparently had left the company) came out. I showed them the issues; they asked what I wanted to do (still maintaining that windows could be re-used). I told them I wanted them to pay for the new windows, they said no, but they would fix the old ones so that they would “look good” (notice the operative word here - look) I said no, I wanted my money back, they said no; we went back and forth with this for five or ten minutes, finally company manager said "if you don't like our offer, sue us". When my contractor took out the windows, he found mold and rot on the southeast side, so much so that it actually was in the subfloor as well as the walls. All the sheathing and many of the studs had to be replaced. Quite a mess. Never did sue, but have the pictures that documented the extent of the problem. It was bad enough that it had to have been there when Larson put in the windows, but they never did tell me about (I was in the house the entire time they were installing the windows), they just covered it up. Did it have something to do with the -20 ⁰F temperature outside? The thing that angered me the most was the "sue me" statement. I would never use this company again; their sloppy workmanship and their lack of commitment to customer service spoke volumes to me.
"We installed fifteen (15) window units, in 11 different openings in [member name removed] house on January 20th-22nd, 2000. The days were very cold, according to the farmer’s almanac the low for the day was -18.9 °F and the high was 19.0 °F. We always give our customer’s the option of install, we never pressure the install. Our crew’s are also given complete control of whether they feel the weather will affect their ability to install. All of our window products are designed for Minnesota’s climate, and will properly seal in the harshest of climates. Our silicone (NuFlex 331) will completely seal in -65 °F, and our glass cleaner (Zep 40 Cold Weather Formula) has no temperature rating, but has never given us a problem. February 3rd, 2000 [member name removed] filled out and signed a completion form, stating: “Your crew installed my windows on what were two of the coldest days of the winter. Yet in spite of the obvious hardships, they were upbeat and did their work meticulously. I was extremely impressed by their thoroughness and professionalism. Between your crew and your salesperson, you made my adventure in window upgrades a very positive experience. I would give my full endorsement on your company to anyone that would ask.” June 6th, 2000 [member name removed] called about one (1) rear upper SE window leaking water. The original crew went to [member name removed] house on June 7th, 2000. The crew assessed the situation an found that siding above the window and on the east side of the house was rotten, and needed to be replaced. November 12th, 2001 [member name removed] called and said she had moisture on the same window, and requested to replace the center glass. Our window service tech arrived November 30th, 2001 and replaced the center glass with new. November 17th, 2002 [member name removed] called and expressed that her rear upper SE window was leaking water. We had one of our owners and our service tech promptly go to her house. [member name removed] was frustrated and insisted that we refund her money on all 15 windows. We had informed her at that time that the problem was not with her window but her siding that had rotted through, allowing water to penetrate her walls in many gaps that were > 1”. We had offered at the time to tear down her siding and flash and side her house properly. She stated that she wanted other opinions. We do not have the exact date of when [member name removed] had called back. But in her phone call she stated that she had a home inspector and a contractor look at her house, verifying that she had multiple gaps in her rotten siding. We told her that we would be willing to come over and tear down the siding and replace it. She informed us that if we did not refund all of her money on all of her 15 windows, she would take us to court, to which our owner replied “If you feel that’s what you need to do, then sue us.” That was the last we heard of [member name removed] until we reviewed Angie’s List to find her review. We also see that none of her pictures show any of the rotten siding that caused her leaking issue. We do not deny that [member name removed] had a water issue with her house (we expressed that to her June 6th, 2000). Despite all that has happened [member name removed]still has a lifetime warranty on her windows, and we will continue to stand behind them."
