I  would like to update my review of Architectural Landscape Design, Inc.  (ALD)  from Oct. 29, 2015.  I first contacted ALD in early April 2015.  I was not working with Laura and Tony Westrude.  ( President / General Manager )  Laura and Tony found out about my early contact and project in Oct. 2015 and saw that I had paid for a landscape design in April 2015.  Tony immediately contacted me and said he (ALD) would refund the design fee, without me even asking. ( which they did )  At no fault of  Laura and Tony, were not aware of my contact with the company or project due to a communication mix-up.  I met with Laura and Tony soon thereafter; they were very sorry about the mix-up and delay. I found both Laura and Tony very professional, knowledgeable and down to Earth people who take a great amount of pride in their work.  While Laura and Tony were at my home, I asked them to look at my backyard project.  ( standing water and grading issues )  Within about 10 minutes they came up with ideas to solve my water issues.  I then hired them to design a complete landscape plan. I have recently seen the plan and it is quite impressive.  I offered to pay for the design, but, they would not accept, due to the mix-up and delay.  We now hope to break ground on my project when my backyard is dry enough for work.  Laura and Tony listened very carefully to my needs and it seems that customer satisfaction is a priority for ALD.  I am now looking forward to working with ALD!

I was very impressed with the crew that worked on our project.   It turned out great and the crew was very friendly, conscientious and professional.   They took great pride in their work and did whatever it took to ensure that the result was perfect.   They also took care to avoid destroying the surrounding area and ensure that everything was cleaned up and gutters etc. we're in place every day in case it rained while they were gone.

Architectural Landscape Design was a pleasure to work with. They answered all our questions during the design phase graciously, and they were very clear concerning what our options were within our budget and what we could do if we increased or decreased that budget.
I also loved the fact that they give you a whole design around your property so you can see how your project could tie into other parts of your landscape as well as what you could do next.
More importantly, our paver patio turned out beautiful. Just gorgeous. We've gotten nothing but compliments, and we have already gotten almost daily use out of it.
Last but not least, their customer service after the patio was done has been amazing. There were some minor concerns we had, and they came out and fixed them with no hassle at all.
I strongly recommend Architectural Landscape Design, and if we ever want to hire out any more landscape work, we'll definitely be giving them a call.

Planing went well. expected more plants but they are sufficient.
Drip irrigation used toro products but the end caps are mission. instead the hose is kinked. Yes it will work but it is not professional looking. 

We needed a solution to get sump pump water from ruining our neighbor's driveway and while we were at it, get a water feature, a fire pit and give our front yard a facelift with stone edging and some new plants. Laura and Tony from ALD came over at the end of June, a few days after initial contact, walked through our backyard with us, asked questions and offered ideas. Two months later they gave us a beautiful plan of our whole back yard that was quite a bit over budget. We did not have a clear idea of the cost of all this work was before we started so that is partly on us. We asked for some changes in the plan that were well incorporated. We decided to split the job into phases to keep cost down. Communication could have been better, there were some "by line" items that were supposed to be priced separately that I never saw itemized, I asked for all cost to be kept at 50.000 only to find out later that the front yard was not included in that number and I did not see the final plan before the team showed up one day. Their team (mostly Eric and Ryan) did a fabulous job. They finished the work in about three and a half weeks with some rainy day interruptions. They ran into some unexpected delays but did a great job rolling with the punches and figuring things out. Everything came out great! They used a lot of our existing plants, rocks and lighting to keep the cost down. We have spent more time in our backyard in the last week then in the last two months! We love sitting on the patio by the waterfall and the whole family enjoys the fire pit. The whole team is professional, they know what they are doing and give the customer what they need as well as what they want.

Architectural Landscape Design was great! Laura and Tony were very friendly and really listened to our ideas for what we were generally looking for in a landscape design and Laura really came through with a beautiful design that met all of our needs and she even suggested some things that we had not really envisioned, but ended up looking amazing! Jeremy, Eric, and the rest of the crew were great and their work was top notch.The quality of the work was outstanding and they were always so nice and polite and were always happy to answer our questions. The crew was there everyday until the work was done and they did a great job cleaning the site at the end of each workday. The end result is amazing! We have received so many compliments from our neighbors about how nice everything turned out! We're looking forward to being able to enjoy our new backyard for years to come. Would recommend this company to anyone looking for great quality and craftsmanship as well as great service!

Our backyard drops off dramatically.  We had concerns about the structural integrity of our land and its landscaping.  The heavy rains in recent years were a concern given the drop-off we had and we felt there was significant risk of erosion which we and other knowledgeable professionals felt may pose a future risk to the structural integrity of the house.  It was a very difficult project with limited space to work due to mature trees and a very small platform from which to stage the work. A couple of landscapers declined to take on the project.  Architectural Landscape Design felt the project was well within their capabilities and they recommended boulder walls and a complete redesign of the backyard. Given the ambitious nature of the boulders which were necessary for hill stability,  we decided to take it a step further and do a complete redesign of the backyard with a large boulder waterfall, patio, and various shrubs, trees and plants.  Laura took on the design and worked closely with us to discover what our tastes and needs were.  She then came back with an excellent plan that added a beautiful array of plants, trees and shrubs but also used the existing shrubs and small boulders.  Tom and his expert crew led by a Eric, a very experienced and talented large machine operator, handled the hardscaping of the project using very large boulders.  Eric was able to fit his machine in a very tight and dangerous area to stage the boulder wall placement.  A large tree was taken out to open things up and make things more aesthetic.  The results were nothing short of outstanding.  The boulder wall looks fantastic and has shored up our land.  Due to heavy rains the project was delayed but once they got going they stayed on schedule and completed the project on time and on budget. My wife and I are thrilled with the results.  I should also say that the crew brought in huge boulders for several days yet cleaned up the street in front of our house.   Proper drainage was important to us, but throughout the process Tom kept that in mind and worked with our existing downspouts to ensure water drained away from the property. Tom, Laura and the crew communicated very well with us all along, even bringing in a Satellite restroom for the workers.  We couldn't be more thrilled with the end result.  After the sale service has been excellent.  They will be coming out to show us what steps need to be taken to winterize the fountain and what other things needed to be taken to prepare for the winter.  Next spring we intend to get their ideas for lighting, and the installation of a gas fire table for the patio.  We have really enjoyed our backyard this fall.

We were very pleased with the plan suggested by the firm and with their very positive attitude and with the way in which they, and their employees, interacted with us from concept to completion. They were great at listening to us and working with our thoughts and concerns. The final result is very pleasing and we are totally satisfied with the result. The workmanship was professional in all regards. Laura and Tony were a pleasure to work with and the same can be said of all their employees who were on our job.

The whole process went very well. The workers were very friendly and always cleaned the area when they were done. We ended up doing the planting and they were very patient and thorough with planting instructions. They also went above and beyond their work when they helped us pull up our old basketball hoop and hauled it away. We would highly recommend Laura and her crew to anyone.

The design process was very thorough and comprehensive.  Laura spent quite a bit of time with us to talk through what we wanted, how we live, what our style is like, etc.  She put together an incredible backyard oasis design for us and then when it was out of our price range, worked very creatively with us to get back into budget while still maintaining the essence and elements of the design we fell in love with.  They understood that we would need to complete the full project over a period of time instead of all at once.  Great communication throughout the project!
We completed the majority of the work that requires heavy equipment  this year, which accomodated our pool and transformed the entertaining area around our home and are absolutely thrilled with the result!  The patio is beautiful!  Eric and the crew were very polite and professional and were great about checking with us anytime they had any questions or ideas of changes / tweaks to the plan we may want to consider.  Very hard-working group and they do a fabulous job of cleaning up at the end of the day, which our neighbors truly appreciated. They turned a great design into reality!
We really enjoyed our experience with ALD and look forward to the next round of work!

They did everything they said they were going to.

At our initial consultation, Tony met with us to determine our needs for landscaping and hardscaping, giving us the opportunity to discuss different methods, recommendations, and materials. A beautiful and detailed custom design plan was provided to us that met all our desires for the entire property. The plan was given to us in hard copy and color print and included a written plant care package. At our landscaping design meeting, we were encouraged to let ALD know if we desired to make changes at any time, since ALD has computer design capabilities and can make modifications at any time. A pricing package was also provided, breaking the plan into stages so we could complete stages over time as our budget allows. Details of all work involved in the various stages was included in the pricing package. The team came out and excavated, compacted and based an approx. 640 square foot patio. All patio materials were delivered to our home. Tony and his team provided my husband and I telephone and e-mail support while we DIY'd the screeding of sand and laid and cut the patio pavers ourselves, allowing us to save money on labor costs. ALD was very supportive in keeping within our budget while using high quality materials. Jeremy from the ALD team even came over to give some in-person instruction when we needed troubleshooting advice while laying the pavers. Tony, Jeremy, and the team were very professional and approachable, taking a lot of time to answer our many questions. With stage one of our plan complete, we look forward to working with the ALD team in the future as we complete the next stage of the plan!

Architectural Landscape Design (ALD) provided us with a
questionnaire at the beginning of the process to determine our design
preferences. My husband has some plant allergies so they were careful to avoid
plants that might cause problems for him. We also requested plants that would
not likely be eaten by deer since our backyard borders on woodland. The
questionnaire was comprehensive enough that we didn?t have a lot of design
changes once the plans were drawn. We had some problems getting all of the
homeowner?s association requirements included in our small yard, but in the end
we did it! And Laura went to some effort to find a supplier with the type of
tree that we wanted for the front yard.
We had an area in the back that had a different elevation
than planned once the final grade was done by the builder. ALD was very
flexible and creative in adjusting the plan to fit the new elevation. They
added some steps and boulders and adjusted the plants. They also adjusted a
side flower bed at my husband?s request after the design was drawn to provide allowance
for a ride-on lawnmower in the future.
It was easy to work with the ALD crew. They were responsive
to our concerns and were thoughtful about what they were doing. Our on-site
crew was led by Ryan. They worked during some of the worst heat of the summer.
The site was always cleaned up at the end of the day and was never left a mess.
 
We love the way our yard looks! It?s very relaxing to sit and enjoy the beauty of our newly installed yard.

The owners of Architectural Landscape design (ALD) were very responsive to our initial contact.  They listened to what we wanted and what our budget was and took it from there.  Laura designed an amazing plan that took full advantage of our backyard space.  We asked for a few small changes in design and narrowed things down just a bit to fit our budget.  They came back with exactly what we were looking for.  After considering several of their competitors, we decided to use ALD.  They did an excellent job in providing a detailed design, including a list of all plants and how to care for them.  The actual work was carried out in a timely and professional manner.  We had a time constraint which they met with no problem.  I was continually impressed as I watched the project unfold.  Their preparation for all the brick and stone work was extremely thorough, so we don't have to worry about things falling apart after a few seasons.  The brick and stone were beautifully done.  We now have a small creek with waterfalls running down the side of our back yard.  It looks very natural and the sound is very peaceful.  Everything was beautifully done.  Of course, on a project this size, there were a few concerns along the way.  Jeremy, the project manager, was very professional and friendly and handled all of our concerns promptly and efficiently.  We couldn't ask for more than that.  There were no defensive attitudes or blame shifting - just timely action in addressing our concerns.  The project took about a month to complete.  The crew was here even on most of the rainy days in June.  I was very impressed at how hard they worked.  Every day when they closed down for the day, they thoroughly cleaned up the area, made sure all the materials were moved to the back yard, and generally left things in a safe and orderly manner.  Very impressive.
I would certainly use them again if we were back to square one, and I would have no hesitation on recommending them to our friends and family.  They are a professional, customer oriented company with the knowledge and equipment required to get the job done right!

Laura and Tony were wonderful to work with from the very beginning and all the way through the process.  They took time to really figure out what we like and what kind of style we were looking for.  They were also willing to revise, based on our budget.  The plan was detailed, and we were very happy with the result.  We wanted to make a master plan for the whole yard, but do it in stages over several years, and they helped us figure out where to start and break it down into manageable parts.  The stone work was done beautifully and the whole job was done quickly.  I would absolutely recommend them!!

Let me say this first.  If you just want a guy and a shovel to come over and toss in some pavers he picked up from one of the bigbox stores, I don't think this is the company you are looking for.  Could they? You bet and I have no doubt you would love the results but you would be missing out on so much.
When I first decided I was going to redo my lawn, I got quotes from a lot of people and a lot of companies.  I can say, that as soon as I met the husband and wife team from ALD, I knew they would be doing my yard.  They were friendly and professional and knew their stuff.  I had some ideas about what I wanted and let them know, but I also knew that I didn't know squat about landscaping/hardscaping design.  I wanted someone to design me a place that would work for me but also wanted it to look like someone who knows artful design had created it.   Several of the other companies just kind of whipped up something quick, while they where there, that had all the appeal of a lump of coal.  Yes it is useful and it would have worked, but it didn't look like something you'd see in a magazine.  That is what I wanted and that is what I got.  They then came back to me with a plan that blew me away.  I loved their plan so much that I had them expand it and it went from just a backyard job to a front job as well.
When the work started, they didn't waste time.  It wasn't a few days this week and few the next week.  They had a full team here, M-F till it was done.  When things came up as they always do, solutions were found without too much fuss.  I was also able to add things here and there with just an email or a call.
The quality of the work is just amazing.  A plan is one thing, but if they can't deliver on what they designed, it wouldn't matter.  The materials and how they were installed was flawless.  I have no doubt that I will never have an issue with anything they did.  I didn't put the price of what I paid up top because I don't really like people knowing my business, but lets just say it was tens of thousands of dollars.  I spent a lot but got every pennies worth and then some.  If you are looking to have something really special done and want it done right, stop looking at other reviews and just call ALD.  You have found your team.
Finally, I thought I needed to at least try to find some critiques and it is really had to think of any but just so this doesn't sound like they are paying me to do this, I can say I found one but it isn't really their fault.  I had asked about replacing my garage.  Yes I know, who would ask a landscaping company to do that, but I did.  They did find someone who does things like they from them when people ask, but his quote was pretty expensive.  That is it.  That is all I could think of that might be a negative.
You will love the work.

This job was Phase I of a multiple phase approach to re-landscaping both the front and back yards of the home.  Phase I involved the hardscape portion of the front yard, and from start to finish the job was absolutely fantastic!
From the very first meeting with Tony and Laura, right on through to completion of this first phase, they were the most conscientious and professional team I have ever worked with on a home improvement project, inside or out.
They met me for an initial consultation, explaining step by step how the process would work, including the initial drawing and plans, plus giving me the option to either big bang the whole project, or break it up into phases over two or more seasons (which we ultimately have chosen), in order to accommodate any funding plan I wanted to take in getting it all done.
The plan that Laura delivered a week or so after that initial meeting was amazing.  The level of detail, the creative use of existing features on the property, the blending of colors between plants, shrubs, flowers and the associated hardscaping, all came together in a beautifully creative design.  She is really a creative genius, and I was truly impressed.

On to execution of Phase I, which including removing the front stoop and sidewalk, and also removing the shrubbery in front of the house, and then rebuilding the stoop and sidewalk using pavers, and finally prepping the shrubbery area with mulch to get ready for Phase II in the spring.
Here is the amazing part of Phase I.  About half way through the job, with all of the removal completed and the new front stoop about half built, I returned home from work on a pretty rainy day to discover a small amount of water coming into the basement.  This was not a new problem, and was not at all caused by the work that had been done by ALD's crew.   However removal of the old stoop did reveal the root cause of the problem.  There was a crack at the base of the concrete foundation behind that old stoop, and over time a small section of concrete had actually chipped away and become a perfect opening for water to enter the basement.  I met the crew foreman the next morning before leaving for work, showed him the situation and told him I really wanted that fixed.  He didn't hesitate for a second!!  He explained that they would remove what they had built so far, repair the damaged foundation, and start over.  The repair work included expanding the damaged area by removing ALL suspect concrete, filling it back in with a series of layers of mud and thick layers of rubber membrane material, then sealing all of that silicone sealant once before the stoop was built into place, and again around the entire stoop after it was built.
Luckily, after completing all of that work of removing new construction, repairing the damaged foundation, and rebuilding the new construction a second time, it rained hard again the next day.  Not a drop of water came into the basement that night.  And for all of that work, the foreman said he would have to add to the bill...... $75.00 !!!!  It was easily a half day of extra work for a 3 or 4 man crew, and probably should have cost an extra $400 or $500.  Needless to say, it was clearly a gesture from ALD of appreciating my business and being genuinely interested in helping me cure a problem, not just hide it.  It absolutely confirmed everything positive I had felt about dealing with Tony and Laura up to that point.
The final work was completed on Halloween day, just in time for the kids to come and get lots of candy.  I tried to include before and after pictures with this review, but was unable to do that.  I will gladly share them if anyone is interested in seeing them.  The compliments from the neighbors who brought their kids by that night for Halloween were non-stop.
I highly, highly recommend Architectural Landscape Design for any of your outdoor landscaping jobs, large or small.  I can tell you with all sincerity that for me, they have a customer for life.

Tony and Laura explained the process and the timing. The crew that came to our home was fantastic and very polite. They respected our privacy and followed the schedule, Jeremy, the crew foreman kept us informed along the way. We would definitely recommend Architectural Landscape Design to our neighbors.

I found Laura and Tony to be very honest - we are on a hill and our firepit had to be built on a slope, they did a great design. We were very confident in their expertise...and the results were outstanding. We will definitely have them back next year for a design for an outdoor kitchen. We will do improvements in phases.

I was hestiant about what I wanted to do...how I wanted to do it...what it would look like...how much would it cost us...but after meeting with Tony and Laura my fears soon disappeared, they were so nice, so professional and really listened to what we were thinking and the budget that we needed to work within. The designs they presented us with were awesome. My everyday lighting along with the upcoming seasonal lighting is everything I wanted and more, the design was great and they were very easy to work with for modifications and our ideas...ha ha but after looking and some discussion we decided they were the experts...and we were right..they had the best ideas. The crew that came on site were great, very nice gentlemen that I would definitely recommend to my neighbors, the foreman, a gentleman named Jeremy, told us that our privacy would be respected and he was true to his word, and kept us informed of the schedule that we could expect. We were very happy with the entire experience = A+.

My husband and I have zero gardening knowledge and were looking for someone to give us advice on what should be planted where and provide a vision for our landscaping. Laura and Tony listened to our needs and provided us with a detailed visual plan of what our yard could look like along with a proposal based on our higher priority items. 
We were out of town during the entire project. Laura sent us photos and communicated with us daily to keep us informed on the progress. Once the project was completed Laura made sure that the plants stayed watered until we were able to make it back home a few weeks later. The work that was completed by ALD really transformed the way our house looks. We have way more curb appeal now and it will only improve as our new plantings mature. I feel so much joy when drive up to the house now and actually enjoy being in the yard. We are so happy that we picked ALD for this project.
We continue to have a professional relationship with ALD as they offer many different landscaping services. Laura is putting together a holiday planter for us which I'm really excited about. We will continue to use them for our landscaping needs.
