Wonderfully! Kurt easily gave the most thorough explanation of what would be done to our floors (out of the three estimates we had done). Additionally, he explained to us that because our existing floors were prefinished they were a different width than a standard new, bare wood install would be. He explained how it might look differently, but then made some calls and found unfinished wood that was the same width as our existing floors. After install you cannot tell what floor was existing and what is new. Robert used a dustless sanding procedure that made cleanup so easy and the water based finishes he used did not have the smell or dry time of oil based that our other estimates had planned to use. We absolutely love our floors and would highly recommend Wood Floor Masters!

Kurt is amazing!  We were in a huge bind.  We had 4 young men with special needs moving into a home at at the very last minute of Labor Day Week the moms decided to have the floors redone.  I almost didn't dare call, but after seeing all the smiley faces on Kurt's Angie's List page decided to give him a call.  He came out early the very next morning and professionally, knowledgeably, and calmly explained all the options. Considering how NOT calm I was this was impressive:)
I would have been happy just that he did the work on such short notice, but the floors are truly beautiful now!!
In the past having had floors done, I was anticipating white dust on everything but he has equipment that sucks it right out of the house.  The house was cleaner after he left than when he arrived.
Just call him!  You'll be so very happy you did.  Kind, smart, professional, optimistic can-do attitude and great craftsmanship.

Kurt and his small crew did a wonderful job.  The floors look amazing.  From the transition pieces to the custom wood vent covers to the shoe trim,  no detail was missed.  Kurt was also able to complete an enormous job (over 1300 sq. ft) in less than 1 week.
Kurt was always on time, was friendly and kept us informed regarding progress.
We plan on hiring Kurt again to re-finish our stairs.

Kurt was one of four contractors we had come out for an estimate.  He was very personable, knowledgeable, and explained everything that he would be doing.  We had a previous contractor that had ruined our floors and took our money and Kurt was very helpful in what was the best way to fix the mess that our previous contractor had left behind.  Wood Floor Masters was amazing to work with.  They had the floor delivered 5 days ahead of time and had the job finished in three days.  The final product was amazing...from the floors themselves to the little details Kurt took care of, including touching up the transition pieces.  We would definitely recommend him to family, friends, and anyone on Angie's List.  I only wish Kurt did other types of contracting so we could hire him for all our other projects!

We had done a fair amount of research and chose 3 companies to provide estimates.  Each came out and did what was expected in the sales/bid process; however Kurt did much more - he really took the time to explain the process, the alternatives, what to expect - and really helped educate us to the point that I knew we would hire him even before we got the bids.  Ultimately, we got the 3 bids, and Kurt's was in the middle of the 3.  His price seemed very fair for what was going to be done.
BOTTOM LINE:
Kurt was amazing to work with - from the initial bid process and education process, to scheduling (and staying exactly on schedule!), to doing an amazing job of sanding, staining, and sealing the floors.  He is extremely professional and knowledgeable - and clearly has a great deal of experience.
And NO DUST - our house stayed clean!
Our floors look fantastic, and we are so pleased that we chose Kurt and Wood Floor Masters.  I would strongly recommend Kurt and Wood Floor Masters to anyone!  I simply can't imagine what else Kurt could have done to make us more pleased - he simply over delivered on everything (particularly the quality of the job).
OTHER THOUGHTS/COMMENTS:
- Our floors are maple - not an easy wood to stain - and many companies won't even do this due to the risk (need a lot of experience or you will have problems in getting it right and making it look professional).
- I am a pretty particular person - I have high expectations - but Kurt still surprised me with how well everything went and his attention to the details at every step of the job!
- Kurt did custom installation of a wood floor vent (flush with wood floor) that was amazing (previously we had a metal vent that rose a bit above the floor) - I don't know how he was able to cut it in so perfectly, and create a built in border for it, and make it look so good (you would have to see this to understand how great of a job he did).
- We had just had new tile installed in our laundry room and the height of the tile ended up about 1/4" higher than the wood floor; not ideal but that's what we had ended up with due to the height of the tile we chose.  Kurt was able to create/install a 1/4 high wood transition piece so that the change from one room to the other looks great and we don't have to worry about possibly chipping or damaging the tile (this is what a real professional can do - find a solution to a challenging problem).  Surprisingly - he did not charge us for this extra work; he could have and I would have been happy to pay for it - but he chose not to - that is rare!
- Kurt left pads for all our chairs, tables, and other items that sit on the floor to ensure that they don't damage the floor surface; again no charge for all the pads (and their were quite a lot).
- If you really want the best and have floors that need refinishing, I strongly recommend you consider Wood Floor Masters, and Kurt (the owner).

Mr. Huegel did a terrific job. It was a "dustless" procedure. When he came to give me the estimate and explained that it would be dustless, I didn't really believe him, but he told me the truth! The dust that remained was extremely light and extended only a few feet from the flooring. That dust came as a result of the hand sanding that needed to be done in tight spaces and next to the quarter-rounds at the edges.
Red birch is a trickier floor to refinish according to every company I interviewed, but my floors look fabulous! It only took a couple of days (as opposed to the three or four that other companies required). He did a great job.
I would gladly hire him again.

It started with Kurt's visit during the quote process.  We initially contacted Kurt and set up an appointment that same week.  Kurt was punctual for the appointment and took time to explain the process from beginning to end.  The equipment he would be using, the finish he would be using, and what we needed to do to prepare for the job.  He also went into detail about what we would need to do during the process (walk on the floors in stocking feet, etc.).  Kurt then measured our floor space and went over the estimate and our options for an extra coat of finish that would help the floor last longer.  He told us when he had openings come up and offered to answer any additional questions we had.  He also left a packet of information on the process and the finish he would be using.  Most of all, we wanted a contractor that was as dust free as possible and that was environmentally friendly.  We made our decision to use Kurt and were able to book the dates that we wanted to book in order to meet our timetable.
Kurt arrived on time the day our job started and again went over details with us on how the process would proceed.  The job was originally scheduled for three days and they completed it in two days.  Very professional in all his dealings with us and there were really no signs of their work when they left other than the beautiful floors being back to their "new" look.  Kurt was a pleasure to work with and their team did it right!  He also provided updates during the process via cell phone to tell us what they had accomplished, a reminder for what footware was acceptable for us to have on the floor and when we could reenter the house safely so we did not mess up the floors.
After the job was done, Kurt was very informative on when we could put furniture, etc. back onto the floor.

Wood Floor Masters were professional, courteous, punctual, and did what they promised. Our floors are eleven years old and had never been refinished and now look brand new. And when they advertise "dustless," they mean it! I was amazed. The only dust came from the detail sanding work done by hand, and that amount of dust was minimal.

Our hardwood floors had endured 12 years of wear and tear with family and 2 golden retrievers.  There were discoloration spots where the original polyethylene finish was long gone.  There was significant discoloration of the original poly to the extent that it was almost orange in spots.  We originally had stained the floors and used a glossy finish.  Over the years, wear and tear and a few dropped items had left a couple of "dents" in the wood near the fridge.
Kurt called back the day I called and made an appointment to show up the next day.  He was there right on time and  gave me an estimate and an education on the various types of equipment used to sand the floors. The type of vacuum truck he was using to cut down on the mess and dust of removing the old finish.  He discussed the different types of polyethylene used to finish the floor, and a realistic time frame when he could complete the job.  He told us what needed to be moved, (Kitchen table, chairs, empty the pantry stuff from the floor, rugs, entryway bench) and how long it had to stay off the floor. He told us that while we would be able to walk on the floor in a few hours with stocking feet, we shouldn't put our rugs back until it had "cured" in 3 days.  My wife and I discussed it and called him back to schedule the job.
We were on the schedule for 4 weeks out and he said he is a small shop and he would be doing the work with one other guy.  I really wanted to get it done sooner, but after meeting with Kurt and 2 other companies, I felt that Kurt would do the best job.  Plus you are talking to the guy who owns the company.
He showed up right on time December 3, 2012 and got to work.  He had the floor completely sanded with his "dustless" system by that afternoon and was ready to work on sealing the floor.  He had the floor sealed and the first coat of poly on by the end of the workday.  My wife came home from work and while you could smell the chemical sealer and poly, it wasn't unbearable.  After the floor had dried (in about 4 hours) we could walk on the floor in stocking feet.  We did have to eat out both Dec 2 and Dec 3 because we really shouldn't be walking on the floor.  Day 2 had the floor finished with a satin finish and Kurt left with no mess to clean up after him.  I mean NO MESS at all!  There was no dust, no rags nothing to show that we had major work done.
In spite of my care with the dogs, someone came to the door while my back was turned, and the dogs went sliding across the newly applied poly mere hours after Kurt left.  They left obvious nail marks in the hallway near the door and scuff marks all the way to the living room carpet.  I called Kurt, he said he had a job the next day but would get to me ASAP. He called the next day after his job, stopped by and resanded the entryway, and both halls so that there wouldn't be any detectable difference in the entire project.  He spent about an hour and a half doing this and said it would cost me $50.  I paid him $75.00 and was happy for it.
All in all it was a great experience, I couldn't have asked for better.  The service was great, the job was great, it was done on time and very professionally and the follow up was great.  Our floors look absolutely fabulous and we have recommended him to 3 other friends who were afraid of getting the dust storm and mess of doing this.  He was a true professional!

This was a truly great experience.  Very professional from start to finish.  They told me exactly what to expect every step of the way, and they were true to their word.  Our floor was sanded by machine and by hand with almost no dust!  Their vaccuum system is very effective.  They repaired the divots and dings, and refinished the floors using water-based products, so there was very little odor.   The floors honestly look better than when they were new.  Everyone who sees our floors asks for their phone number!  I highly recommend Kurt and Wood Floor Masters!

Beautiful. Think I could write a short story on the many positive effects, having the floors brought back to their original state have had on me. Just awaking in the morning and what happens when my feet hit the floor. Excitment. Hard to belive that these floors were coverd up all those years with filthy carpeting. Follow up service is A+.

Remember that guy who tore his paper out of his notebook with a straight edge in high-school?, that's Kurt and that same precision makes him a great floor guy. His estimate was in line with others, and we liked that he worked primarily in water-based poly. Kurt arrived punctually at noon on the first day, setting up the hose for the high-powered vacuum that ensures a dustless sanding. After a day of sanding I passed my finger across a closet shelf: no dust. His equipment was designed to be dustless, not retrofitted. I was in the house much of the time and apart from the noise, saw nor detected any dust. The sanding took a day and the staining or sealing another day and a half. Through it all the two worked like dogs, pausing less than 15 minutes for lunch. Their expertise and attention to detail was impressive. They smoothed ruts caused by amateur sanders and impressively scraped out the corners under the radiators. Watching Kurt work with the poly was perhaps the most impressive at it was hot and one needs to be efficient in its application. I and my wife are detail-oriented when it comes to floors, and were impressed with the finished product. The entire process took around two full days of work, spread out over three days. The poly smells strongly, though not as strongly as oil-based poly, and the smell dissipated within a half-hour of opening the windows. For their expertise, timeliness, work-ethic, and superior finished product, we'll hire them again when we need our floors done. Absolutely no complaints on any level. The two are nice guys, which makes having strangers in your house easier as well.

Measured job and provided a quotation during the visit. Work was done as scheduled, on time and promptly. The sanding system used by Wood Floor Masters is touted as dust free and it is virtually that. This was a 2-day job with the first day for replacing the small section of bathroom flooring, sanding and applying a sealer and the second day for applying the finish. There was a very small amount of dust on the kitchen counters after the first day (but not in cupboards or anything like that) and after the second day, the counters had been vacuumed clean. The house was basically left in the same condition after the work as it was before. Absolutely a great system and extremely professional work.
