The list could go on.
About two weeks into the job, the amount of work became too much for Tim and he got slower and increasingly unfocused going from one task to another without ever actually finishing anything. Tim does not work with a proper crew but only brings in very young and unschooled 'helpers'. Yes, we added items to the project not included in original quote such as new window, dry walling bedroom ceiling, installing 3 additional kitchen cabinets and then re-installing when found to be of wrong height and building small shelf unit. But these changes should not have meant the project going over original deadline by an entire month, with completion not in sight.
Three months into the job, having paid Tim over three quarters of money owing, there was more than one quarter left of work to do: the bathroom, kitchen, outdoor stairway, much of drywall, electrics, plumbing and details too numerous to list were still not near completion. We pressed Tim for an end of August deadliine; in response, he made it clear he wanted off the job and proposed that we pay new contractors of his choosing up front for the remaining work so that he could wash his hands of the job. We refused as we had originally agreed to pay the final quarter upon completion. Tim then announced he was going on holiday and took all of his tools and has not been seen since. We informed him by email that we would be writing a negative Thumbtack review (since posting this review he has removed his listing from the site, as it was the second such review) and taking legal action if he did not return to site, but still he has not done so. He instead continued to insist that we pay other contractors up front for remaining work (queerly making additional 'demand' that we write a 4-5 star reveiw of him on Thumbtack!).
Long, sad story. Since his departure, we've had four other contractors quote for the work and received bids significantly higher than the quarter still owed to Tim; in other words, we will have to pay twice for our re-model. Devastating. The delay caused by his walking off the job has meant total disruption to our family life and rhythms. Put bluntly, Tim was all about Tim in the end. He has taken money for work that he did not complete, making dishonesty not integrity the hallmark of our experience with him. Hiring Tim has been a complete disaster, a nightmare for our family and a huge waste of precious time and money. I normally would try to let water flow under the bridge, but I've taken the time, made the effort to write reviews because honestly I would not want anyone else to go through a similar experience.
