Great! The owner and crew were friendly yet professional, arrived on time, and the results were impressive. The clean-up on the street was amazing. When they were done there was no evidence that there had been men, large machinery & 2 trees being dismantled that day. Just 2 trees gone and 2 nice patches of fresh topsoil where they'd been. Very pleased. Top notch. Note: On August 11, 2016, we had a huge cottonwood come down and I immediately called North Star. I had a nice exchange with the John, the owner, but he was unable to come out for an estimate as quickly as I needed it (very quickly) due to jobs already booked. That inspired me to belatedly write this review of last year's job, which I had forgotten to do.

John and his crew were extremely professional! John came over to assess the project, offer suggestions, and construct a bid. They were able to work us in almost immediately with the work commencing within a week. In one day the entire project was complete. They cleaned up EVERYTHING, not a trace left behind. They moved any plants that were going to be damaged by their equipment. I can't say enough about how great they were to work with. Fast, efficient, clean, polite, professional, on-budget, with all products and services as described.

Great.  John showed up on time to provide the estimate.  The cost was very reasonable.  They took care of everything when I was work.  Did an exceptional job - would highly recommend them.

This was a very large tree that was close to our house and also hung over our neighbor's house and driveway.  We were looking for a tree removal service that could remove this tree without putting any equipment on our property or our neighbor's property.  They did a great job removing the tree, grinding the stump, and cleaning up the area.  I would highly recommend John and his crew!  They did an awesome job!

John came out first and did a good assessment. He listened to our needs and preferences.

About 3 weeks later, John and his crew showed up (5 men in all) with equipment and pruned two trees in the front yard, including a white birch and maple with on major limb and then other branches.  There was quite a bit of excess growth and re-shaping/cleaning up of the maple and also of the birch where it was hanging over the roof and where there were some cross-over branches and dead branches. The men also did the "fine" work with a hand saw and through climbing--careful not to break healthy branches or over-prune.

The white birch is a favorite and John took good care of it and the results are excellent so far. The leafs are just budding and we believe the trees will do well and remain healthy. We hope for a good 2 years before more is needed.

Excellent work. Great crew. Cleaned up everything and left some of the wood for firewood.

We had used North Star a couple of years prior with good results so we called them to give us an estimate.  They came out surveyed the damage and extent of the work within a couple of days and provided a not to exceed estimate which we accepted.  The work was estimated to take two days and use a 5 to 7 man crew. Part of the work required a crane to hold and lift some of the trees near the house.  The crew showed up with all their equipment and on time both days.  The crane showed up when it was suppose to.  The job was well planned and executed. There was no waiting for missing equipment.  The crews were fantastic, very professional and personable.  They were really hard workers and very concerned for our safety. A couple of times we were leaving our house and they held us up for a couple of minutes till they could make the area safe for us.  They laid down sheets of plywood to minimize the damage to the lawn.  They really did a good job of cleaning up after their work.  They even raked the yard where the plywood sheets had been and other areas they had run the equipment across.  There was no damage to anything including the yard.  The actual cost of the work came in less than they had estimated.  All in all they did a wonderful job and I would recommend them to anyone without reservations.  Our experience after using them twice was so good that we will not consider another tree service.

Quick response for estimate request. Provided estimate that day.  Hired them and set the date.  Unfortunately that was delayed for almost a month due to the big storm up north that caused so much tree damage.  They arrived on the day arranged ready to work and did an amazing job!  They were so nice and worked very hard.  I couldn't even tell the trees and shrub they removed were ever there!  They cleaned everything up and my trees they trimmed look wonderful.  Would hire again.  Wonderful! Worth the wait!

Provider came out and surveyed the job and provided an estimate a couple of weeks prior to the service being performed.
Scheduled a date for service,  followed up with a reminder call.
The several person crew that came out was professional and efficient.
Their lead person followed up to make sure the job was done per the quote and to my satisfaction. ( and it was)

North Star did a wonderful job- they were professional, on-time, and performed all clean-up prior to leaving.  They attempted to protect our stone pavers but in the process of removing a large tree several of them cracked.  The foreman knocked on our door to let us know what had happened right away and offered to reimburse us in full.  I was so impressed how up front and apologetic he was, and we did receive a check for the cost of replacement pavers.  We will absolutely use North Star in the future, their honesty and professionalism was refreshing!

These guys were great, and I will call them first the next time I need tree work.
First off, I had estimates accumulated from a few different places, and these guys were the best value for the money. I say it that way because I own a chainsaw and like doing tree work, but dropping a 22" diameter tree that was hanging over the house was well beyond my skills, but I can cut up the branches all day long once it's on the ground. John understood this and was willing to write the estimate in a flexible way that didn't just force me into a "full service" (i.e. disposal and stump grind) situation. I could also tell during the process that John knew what he was doing - some of the competition sent out kids in designer sunglasses and flip flops to write their estimates. I have doubts that these kids have ever started a chainsaw, and it showed in how far off their estimates were.
Second, the crew was very punctual - actually about 15m early. They were very efficient and professional in doing the work, and it was done flawlessly with one tiny exception. Before I get to the exception, it's important to note they decided to use a crane to lift the trees over my house, which was a huge timesaver for me when I started dicing the branches up and taking them to the city - 70% of the material was already in the front yard because they dropped it there (after consulting me), saving me a ton of branch dragging. The tiny exception was on one of the final large sections, the crane operator nicked my gutter and it ripped the cap off. John again was fair to work with on it and we sorted it out.
So, all in all, these guys were great and I'd bring them back immediately the next time I need tree work done!

Everything went very well. I am a returning customer of North Star Tree Care. This is the third time I hired them to do some work for me. I called them about 4 weeks ago and spoke with John who came a few days later to my house for a free estimate. He looked at the conditions of all the trees that I wanted to be shaped or removed. He gave me his suggestions and advice on what would be the best treatment. He then gave me a quote for all the work. I negotiated the cost he gave me and . He came down a little on cost. I talked to him a few days after I was given the estimate and asked him about the date when they would come  and do the work. I was given  today 10/6/2015 as the date they would come and do the work. They arrived exactly at 8:30 AM as promised. They did an excellent job removing all the low tree limbs up to about 6 feet clearance. They removed the dying trees, ground the stumps and pruned the shrubs. All the area was cleaned and debris was hauled away.

I have a healthy ash tree that needed to have some large limbs removed. John responded to my emailed questions rather 
quickly and came out shortly thereafter to do an estimate. Scheduling was easy and convenient and they arranged to contact Xcel to turn off the power to my home that day. The team arrived when they said they would and were all very professional. They did a great job and worked quickly but safely. The cleanup was so thorough you wouldn't have known several limbs had come down that day. I'm really pleased.
