Tom Parenteau did an excellent job of remodeling our kitchen. He was involved in all aspects of the project - from design through final cleanup. Tom does quality work. His subcontractors also do quality work. We came up with the general plan for remodeling (with the help of a decorator). However, we soon stopped working with the decorator and then worked only with Tom. Tom and his subcontractors provided excellent design suggestions. Tom tore everything back to the studs and started from scratch. We extended the kitchen by about 2 feet into the area formerly occupied by an unused breakfast counter. As part of this project he also replaced the bay window in our kitchen and sliding glass door to our deck (both were showing their age and needed replacement). He also removed a small window and filled in the hole. We also replaced all the flooring in the kitchen, dining room, entry and laundry room. I did all the painting but Tom's crew did the rest.
During the project Tom had a key and we were very comfortable having Tom and his subcontractors working in our house while we were not home. Tom used Paulson Brother's Woodworx for our custom kitchen cabinets. They had some excellent suggestions on the configuration of the cabinets and the add-ons (like a trash/recycling drawer, knife holders in the drawers, lazy Susan's in the corner base cabinets, etc. Kevin, Tom's subcontractor, did an excellent job installing our tile backsplash.
The result is fantastic. The project was completed over 9 months ago and we are so happy we had this work done. The space is much more functional with lots of storage space and everything looks great. The changes we made make it a much more usable space when entertaining 25 or more family members.
We liked the results so much that we had Tom go right into remodeling our 2 bathrooms - with the same great results. I would very highly recommend Paranteau Construction for kitchen and bath remodeling. It is stressful to have your kitchen torn apart and workmen here all the time. But we could not be happier with how the entire process went and with the results.
his subcontractors was working on site. Tom does many things himself but has a select group of sub-contractors he uses for tasks like excavation, concrete, roofing, electrical, etc. He only uses sub-contractors that provide work done to his standards of quality.
Tom only does one project at a time so the project moved forward quickly. He showed up promptly every day and was there early on the mornings when a subcontractor was going to be there early. There were 2 times later in the project when he had "emergencies" at other customers where no work was done those days. He contacted me ahead of time in both instances so I knew no one would be present that day and why.
Tom does a very high quality job and uses materials that are of good quality. I was concerned about the quality of the overhead door installed in the back of the garage addition. Tom recommended a double insulated steel door that looks and performs above my expectations. In fact the door is so nice I will probably have 2 more installed in the front (street side) of the garage to replace my
existing garage doors.
I was so impressed with Tom that I felt comfortable leaving the house to do daily tasks while Tom looked after the project. There was no need to keep a close eye on the workers - Tom was in charge and things were always supervised well. There were a couple of times when I did not communicate my desires/needs clearly enough and the work done was not exactly what I wanted. In both
instances Tom immediately had those items corrected so all was exactly as I wanted. He said his goal is to give the customer what they want. Tom provided a detailed statement of work at the beginning of the project that documented all work to be done. There were several changes I desired along the way. Tom provided written change orders that detailed the new work to be done and the
price impact. In one case this resulted in the overall project cost being reduced since an easier and less costly method was used to accomplish the task.
At the end of each day the work site was cleaned up and at the end of the project all nails, trash, scrap wood, etc. was removed from the site. I did not have to clean up after they left the work site.
The completed garage addition looks like it was always a part of the house. The roofing, siding and trim all match the rest of the house in both color, texture, design and quality of materials. I am extremely happy with the work performed. When Tom left at the end of the project I felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend. I would definitely recommend Tom Parenteau Construction to anyone who would like quality remodeling or home additions.
