It was a good experience. I was looking for a painter and I ended up checking out several painters. The job turned out really nice.

Everything went well again. I would recommend them. He does really nice work. He's a little tough to get a hold of to start with. He's a little bit tougher to get them to give you a bid and get a starting date but once he starts, he's good. I have recommended them to some of my friends.
Description of Work: I used Paragon Contracting to install a patio door and to fix and repair the siding in my house and repaint my house.

We had an existing 2nd level deck with a wraparound walkway around a bay window and were looking to make some changes. 1) The wraparound portion was not built properly and was starting to sag - this needed to be taken care of from a safety standpoint. 2) The deck lacked a staircase which we wanted to gain access to the yard below. 3) The deck had at least 5 layers of solid stain that was cracked and peeling - we had been fighting it with chemical removers, pressure washing, sanding, and scraping, but were not getting anywhere. We also found that some of the railing and deck boards were beginning to rot. We wanted the deck to look good again and reduce the amount of maintenance needed. We requested quotes from three contractors. The first portion of the job was pretty well defined. For the staircase, we weren't exactly sure where it should start and end and each contractor talked through different options. Cary came up with a plan that leveraged the existing deck frame, minimized the impact to our landscaping at ground level and simplified the construction of the staircase itself. We also asked to quote low maintenance vinyl railing. Cary explained that while the vinyl materials were lower cost, the installation of vinyl railing was more labor-intensive than aluminum railing and that we may be better off with the aluminum railing. At that point we were planning to continue to tackle the deck floor boards on our own. We ended up receiving two quotes and Paragon was significantly lower. That said, each contractor came up with a different project plan - the more expensive quote would have ended up with vinyl railing and a staircase with a midway landing and some complicated angles. Cary's quote to take care of the failing wraparound, add the staircase and replace the railings with aluminum railing was substantially lower. It also included line items on the quote for replacing the floor boards with two different material options - we hadn't asked for that specifically, but he included it after I had explained the struggles we were having with removing the stain. We decided to replace all the floor boards with new cedar. Once we decided to go with Paragon, things went very well. Cary did the entire project himself - he was professional, cleaned up the area each day and kept us informed on timing. He is a skilled craftsman and has a lot of experience which helped us save money and get an even better result than we anticipated. The deck looks well integrated with our home and there is no evidence of the wraparound that was removed (except for the concrete footing that we left in the ground). We have access to our yard and garden without having to walk around the house and will have significantly less required maintenance which will give us more time to enjoy our deck without cursing it. We are very pleased and would definitely use Paragon again.
Description of Work: Deck project: Removed wraparound deck from bay window area, built staircase down to ground level, replaced deck floor boards, removed wood railings & built/installed aluminum railing. Installed & painted siding in a few areas that needed it after a portion of the deck was removed.

He did a good job and I was happy. He was prompt and I thought that his price was very inline with the other bids that I had gotten. He was courteous and professional. I was very satisfied with the job that he did, besides the fact that he was a local and was right in my community. I have a couple of other things that I plan on doing down the road in a while and I would most definitely give him an opportunity to those as well.
Description of Work: I used Paragon Contracting recently. I just had him re-sheet rock and re-do a family room for me.

Description of Work: Misc quote to include cleaning a ceiling fan (at 18' ceiling) to mud and paint drywall in garage. Some unfortunate issues arouse - the weather got very cold and it took too long to get the job done due to the time it took to get the paint to dry. In addition shelves we installed and garage door opener repaired (I had wanted replacement but they insisted they could fix it) and they missed a sensor and I ended up replacing my garage door due to damage from the broken limit switch on the garage that was not address. And bought a new garage door opener. I think they can do really good work but I would get an exact quote (just like I would from anyone else) even if you "think" you only have a $500 project. Therefore if you have a "keeping scope" and other issues happen you won't be paying way more than you planned. This is probably just a smart way to go about this kind of services. Everyone that I know that used them were very satifsfied with the quality of work.

Response from PARAGON CONTRACTING
Paragon Contracting fixed the problem with the garage door opener and it worked well for a few days. Then member called me because the garage door malfunctioned and she could not get her car out. I looked at the damage to the garage door and right away agreed to fix the damaged section of garage door at no cost to her. I do not believe that this was Paragon Contractings fault, but to resolve it promptly I agreed to fix it right away. Member said she could not get her car out of the garage and I offered to go over immediately to make sure she got to her appointment. Member is a good customer and and a good person, we want to keep all of our good customers.

I hired Paragon to fix my roof--the communication and workmanship was great. Then, I tried to hire them for a follow-up job. Cary came out, looked at the work and promised me a quote "in a few days". A few days later, I emailed, asking what was up. Cary responded saying he would provide a quote by the end of the week. That was over a month ago. No communication, no email, nothing.
Description of Work: Hired first time to provide roof shingle repair for some minor storm damage. Tried to hire again, without success.

I came out and fixed the roof promptly. I even fixed additional shingles that I found torn. I then looked at a foundation issue and let him know my thoughts on that. I then looked at another unique project for him and updated him as I was having a hard time coming up with a solution-I could not find a product to fit the situation per code. I would have sworn I let him know this.

As there was no response there was no project!
Description of Work: He came to the house and said he would have ideas and estimates for us in a few days. This is going to be a bigger project than just a basement finishing as it will involve other exterior and interior updating as well so will be a nice sized project. The young man seemed very interested, sincere, and was very pleasant. However we have not received any further information from him to date. I find it hard to believe that a professional, if he is not interested in a project or is too busy or whatever doesn't at least respond with an explanation in that regard. We are both business people and understand being busy, but a simple phone call or e-mail takes only minutes and goes a long way in building business!

This was an extensive basement remodel, a kitchen project and possibly a garage drywall and siding job in the future. I spent a long time at the site and drafting a bid. I emailed it to her several time with no success-I then drove out to her house (25mi) and put it on her steps. I wanted the job but lost her ph#. When she didn't call me back I assumed she didn't choose my company. I just found out I could respond to this message, over a year later, and I feel very bad about the communication problem-my fault.

I called Cary at Paragon Contracting because my neighbor recommended him. He gave me an estimate and an hourly rate. He heated the garage and started the taping, sanding, priming and painting and then shelving (I forgot to mention that he filled the shelves with all my stuff that was laying around - he even hung my 12' ladder and bike). He told me when he could start the job and he showed up on time, kept me informed as to what he had accomplished and when he would be back - usually the next day when the mud/paint was dry. I was well informed and he was clean and concerned about cleanliness of his work. When he cut into the ceiling in the house he spread plastic all over and even vacuumed when he was done, he even spread plastic in the garage as not to get dust all over my stuff. When he gave me his bill it was right where he said it would be and he gave me a discount on a larger future project he is drafting up for me.
Description of Work: Tore off old sheet rock tape and re-tapped entire garage, applied mud and sanded to an interior finish. He primed and painted the entire garage and then hung an entire wall of shelves (25). He also hung my railing, hung my picture, hung 9 blinds, cleaned my 20' high ceiling fan and 20' high blinds, fixed my water softener and cut out my ceiling and added a vent hood over my stove that vents outside.

Cary is amazing! We had two dozen companies come by to give us a bid and Cary was not only the least expensive but also provided it to us the fastest. Cary started the job within a few days and worked with me as I sketched out what my wife and I wanted. His workmanship and dedication is above and beyond no other. (I should know, my father had a construction company on the east coast while I was growing up.) He came early and worked non-stop....always explaining to my wife and I what he was doing and the materials he was using. Six weeks later he finished and both rooms look unbelievable, so much so that we already are using Cary to remodel our den. Also an important point worth mentioning is trust. When hiring anyone to work in your house you need to be able to trust them that they will do the right thing. That the materials they use are appropriate, the permits are pulled and what they are doing is structurally sound. Cary certainly earned our trust, so much so we gave him a key.
Description of Work: My wife and I purchased a home recently and we wanted to convert the old dark and gloomy basement and garage into usable space. Both rooms were the original block walls with open floor joist as the ceiling. We needed everything to look bright and fresh so that we can start being able to use the large amounts of space as a laundry room and workshop.

Cary was on time and was there when he said he would be. He did the job late into the night to make sure he finished the job because he ran into an unforeseen problem that took him a long time to solve, but it was done the right way and he didn't try to charge us any more money then what he quoted. He had on a company shirt and was professional and courteous. We bought the fixtures and he put them in. He knew exactly how to install all of them and installed them where we wanted them. I would recomend Paragon Contracting and Cary Bergstrom to everyone. He was polite and stood by his fair quote even though he worked longer than he estimated.
Description of Work: He took out the existing toilet, vanity, vanity top and faucet. He put in a new toilet and hooked it up. He installed a new vanity and vanity top and then put on a new faucet and hooked it all up and anchored it. He hung a new mirror, a new overjohn and put up a towel holder and tissue holder. Everything looks and works wonderfully. He even cleaned up and vacuumed when he was done. He did an exceptional job.
Cary returned my call within an hour and arrived on time. He was well dressed in a company shirt, so I knew who he was, it was also on the truck. He suggested I get a list of things I wanted done, and he would try to squeeze in everything he could. He looked over the list and suggested some other items that I really needed and it was all included in the price he had quoted. He was professional, polite and cleaned and vacuumed where he was working when he was done. The price was half of what I was quoted from others, and I got a free fire extinguisher. He is very concerned about safety.
Description of Work: Cary came to my house and gave me an estimate and started the work right away. I needed my cabinet hardware fixed, a new faucet, some light switch and outlet plates changed, a screen door fixed. He also changed my smoke detector batteries, changed out 6 light bulbs with extended life money saving bulbs and installed a fire extinguisher that he gave me for free as a promotional coupon item.
