Overall, I was satisfied with Mortgage Capital of MN. I found their rates on bankrate.com and contacted them for a quote on a refinance to a fixed, 30 yr mortgage. I worked with Justin Burckhardt. Justin got the ball rolling right away, but we did run into some delays with the loan provider, Wells Fargo. I also sought a quote from Wells Fargo directly, but their rate and closing were higher and longer than I wanted. Mortgage Capital of MN was able to give a better rate and a quicker close. However, the delays with the loan provider nearly meant that we missed our cut off date for our rate lock. I am somewhat familiar with the costs and steps associated with refinancing, but there were some areas I was not so clear about. Justin was fairly transparent and ultimately did the the job for a fair fee. I scored the firm a little worse for 'responsiveness' because I felt that I was always the one having to get information from them, as opposed to them proactively keeping me informed with where we were at in the process. This is likely due to my relative inexperience and their ability to handle the deal without constantly updating me, but I would have liked more information. Closing was flexible, however. All in all, it was a difficult time to refinance with the state of the property market (low apprasials, new regulations, delays from lenders), but with the help of Mortgage Capital of MN, we were able to do so effectively at a competitive interest rate with a fair fee to the broker. They have good local knowledge, and I liked that their offices were right in Maple Grove. We also did virtually all of the paperwork via email, which was a plus, because it meant I didn't have to leave work to shuffle documents back and forth.
