North Star Resort

I located this resort via the internet and emailed the owner for reservations and information. I specifically asked about the closeness of the the grounds to the lake and other questions when I made the reservation. I was only told that we could come anytime we wanted to and no other questions were ever answered. This should have been my first clue. It was the most horrible experience we have ever had in the entire state of Minnesota! The owner was very rude and condescending to myself and my friend the instant we entered the office. He was clearly irritated that we interrupted his lunch although he stated in his email that we could come anytime. He over charged us for the time that we were there. We were only staying 2 nights and he charged us for a 3 full nights because he said we were there an extra 1/2 day. When our husbands paid the bill he charged another $25 more than what he quoted without explanation. He did not offer any assistance or explain any of the regulations of the campground so we had no idea of what the expectations were. We are very respectful and quiet people anyway and so we relied on our common sense, but this was the first time we had ever stayed at this resort and should have been more informed. The grounds are seriously unkempt, the boat ramp is cramped and has had no maintenance in years. The bath houses were filthy, lights did not work, and they were equipped with coin machines in order to use the showers which would stop running within 2 minutes of putting in your money so it cost 4 times as much to take a 10 minute shower We could not hook up the sewer line for the RV because the cover for the hookup was unremovable. He sped up the hill that we were parked on in his pickup, literally slid to a stop, and got in my face yelling at me and was enraged when he noticed we had 8 pieces of split wood for the camp fire saying that we didn't have any right to use any from the pile. Had we been informed of any of the rules/regulations of this resort we would have known. Every resort that we have stayed at in Minnesota has always supplied camp fire wood for all of their guests as a service and since he did not make anything clear about his resort we had no way of knowing what we could and could not do. The owner clearly neglects all of his responsibilities towards customers to pay for his Harley Davidson Motorcycle addiction as he was too busy riding the motorcycle with his trophy wife and going to the casino to assist customers properly. It's obvious that money is the only motivation for this owner and how much of it he can scam out of customers. No customer should ever be treated the way he treated us under any circumstance.
